When I say Chinedu Ughelumba you should know I was talking about Bassey. There is no other Chinedu in that team. Chinedu Ughelumba is his government name given to him from birth. Bassey is a recently adopted name, in honor of his maternal home. No man uses his mother's surname as his own surname unless he was born out of wedlock and the father isn't known. So, yes I was talking about Ughelumba Calvin Chinedu "Bassey", the son of Ikenna Ughelumba and Eberechi Ughelumba.

It appears that the latest trend is host and win.

If that's the way, then it's going to be a long journey for Nigeria.

We've been unfortunate to meet the hosts twice. Look at Senegal, all their opponents apart from Egypt were weak teams. But they are in the final.
CIV's win was clean. Morocco has no honor. They have cheated their way to the final.

Many people on that X also attributed it to him being Igbo and hence sabotaging the team for Biafra. Do you agree that he indeed sabotaged the team?

What exactly was his reason for sabotaging the team, since you guys said it was a delibrate act?
No ooo. You know I would never tow that line.
Nope. I tagged you on why I feel he sabotaged the team. And like I said, it's my opinion and I might be wrong but at the least, that's what I think.

Okay, I think that he's been feeling left out or sidelined in the team. On this I draw from his constant complaints (masked with comedy) about others taking time to speak to the media. About him doing his own when he becomes man of the match. I felt that was envy of some sort. Watching Iwobi's vlog, I noticed it but didn't put anything to it. It was also said that he was not happy to have been left on the bench for that long. And this is why his body language was off.

This is where I locate his malice oo. It's all down to what I think of him not his tribe and I don't support trolling him or abusing him.

You are beginning to sound like our blue font guy, TGJ. Pray tell, how is the penalty loss his fault? .

Right from the WCQ Play-offs, the team practised PKs in EVERY training session knowing they were knock-out games and there had to be a winner.

Even at this AFCON, during the Semi-final pre match presser, Chelle was specifically asked by a Nigerian journo if they were training for penalties and he confirmed they were. I also watched various Interviews of our players in which they said they were practising PKs in training just before the round of 16.

Go back and watch the WCQ playoff PSO, Bruno played our best PK. Fast, medium elevation and to the left of the goalkeeper. Obviously, Morocco prepared for the eventuality of PSO, studied tapes of our PK takers (including the WCQ playoff PSO) and their goalie had memorized how our players played PK. That's the reason Bounou stepped to his left rather than dive even before Bruno hit his PK. Unfortunately Bruno hit it tamely down the middle this time, and Bounou recovered and was able to stretch out a hand to stop it.

As per Chukwueze, do you honestly think that was the kinda PKs he was playing in training that Chelle brought him in specifically to take a PK? You sef reason am. Moreover, no matter how well a team prepares for penalty and how proficient they are, a winner must emerge and its just unfortunate we were on the losing side. Me, I can never blame Chelle for the outcome of the game. Our PK takers let him and Nigerians down.

Despite the painful loss, I am proud of the valiant effort of the team. I saw determination, fearlessness, fighting spirit and a "we die here attitude" all of which were missing in the DR Congo game. The team did not fold this time and just go through the motions, and that's in my opinion is our biggest win from the Morocco game.

Eric Chelle has given the Super Eagles a playing identity. He has met the semifinal target the NFF set for him and did so playing exciting and beautiful attacking football. He is still unbeaten in regulation + extra time with thie Super Eagles. He may not have gotten to the final like JP did in Ivory Coast but I regard him as our best coach in the last five years. The Super Eagles need some coaching stability, and I hope he stays and the NFF extends his contract till after the 2028 AFCON.

The 2927 AFCON will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania but shey una don hear say Morocco is considering hosting the 2028 AFCON as warm-up and preparation for the 2030 World cup that they're co-hosting with Spain and Portugal? This people wan use hosting win two AFCONS sharperly sha. Hopefully, Senegal spoils their planned party in the final just like the Super Falcons did.
Alright

Some journalists actually said Chelle practically waved off the question as to whether they were practicing PK in practice. Hence my take

I have some questions for you semid4lyfe

Do you think ita possible for Chelle to take this team to a place where they are practically unbeatable even with obvious refreeze boas

Also, what did you expect Chelle to have done differently in that match that he didn't do?

Do you think the Egyptians would borrow from Morocco's playback to stifle our midfield tomorrow?

Eric Chelle says he had a deal with Calvin Bassey coming into this Afcon to show improvement in every single game.
He also spoke about Calvin's growth into a leader in the team and his projected plan to mould Bassey into a top 3 CB.

Yes the officiating for CIV was good. But our fans saw shege in the stadium. I've read various accounts.

We - for all our bad character - never do that. We are always gracious to our opponents. When we failed to qualify for Qatar, our people destroyed the stadium but never attacked Ghanaian team or their fans.

Hosting two Afcons within 3 years is nothing but a fraud but in this motsepe regime nothing is impossible! Morocco could as well be designated host permanently! Nonsense and ingredients

Imagine SA having good pitches yet took us to a potato farm for the WCQ and Aina got injured.

Nigeria can never even nurse such low thinking not to talk of doing it.

If I be pro footballer I no go dey gree to take PK. Pressure wey dey follow that thing too much especially if na pk shootout

Exactly, reminds me of my kid bro who we have to pacified when he became inconsolable after missing a penalty because of d pressure.

You have to be mentally and psychologically prepared to take penalty d pressure dat comes with it is unbearable. I won't blame Chukwueze so much until I hear his own side of d story.

We will definitely win the case.... Let's expect FIFA's verdict before the playoffs... Mean while, this what FIFA rules states ( according to chat gbt) concerning eligibility

Here’s an explanation of FIFA’s Article 10.2.2 and 10.2.3 in the context of FIFA’s rules governing eligibility to play for a national representative team — specifically the part of the regulations about how nationality is “held” for eligibility purposes:

📌 What Article 10.2 Covers
In FIFA’s Commentary on the Rules Governing Eligibility to Play for Representative Teams, Article 10.2 explains the concept of obtaining a nationality automatically and the conditions under which a player is considered to “hold” that nationality for eligibility to represent a national team.
api.spoleg.com

🧾 Article 10.2.2 — “Further Administrative Requirement”
Article 10.2.2 says:
If the national law of a country requires a substantial precondition before nationality is automatically granted — for example:
a person must renounce another nationality, or
must wait a long mandatory period after birth before citizenship is granted,
then that requirement does count as a “further administrative requirement.”
api.spoleg.com
👉 In other words: if someone can’t automatically become a citizen without first doing something significant under that country’s law, then they are not yet considered to “hold” that nationality for FIFA eligibility.

So the question is how were there able to get the FB players Congolese passport against the country's law on citizenship. The answer is
Forgery!!! And it is not fair
I told pple here from the very day this case came to limelight that Nigeria have a very strong case but those who are always negative in any thing that concerns their own country argued and didn’t believe me

Many players just like every other person need someone to believe in them. I was relentless in saying Bright is not a good defender but his performance became better and better in this Afcon especially in the last two crunch matches. If he can learn how to whip in crosses, he'd be a great RB for us.

I agree with Goke7 that Ola Aina will not stroll back into the first 11. I also agree with Kog45 that Aina will still be our first RB but he would have to raise his game because Bright has significantly raised his own game.

A backline of Aina, Benjamin, Bassey and Bruno will be impregnable.

Imagine two ball playing CBs. Oh God.

We swallowed too much nonsense during the WCQ.

We must protest anything that we think is unfavorable to us. Look how we accepted Ghanaian Ref. We should have protested whether CAF would have changed him or not is immaterial. Our protest would have put him in check. Just like we protested Abongile's appointment during the playoffs

Bro, can somebody be better than Benjamin? Like TheSuperNerd said anytime Benjamin and Bassey plays, it's Benji that gets the praise. Imagine oo. Any defender better than Benjamin must be rare quality. If Nwaiwu is better, then our future is bright.

Even without Aina and Benjamin, we kept clean sheets throughout the knockout. That's impressive.

This team is towing the same path. Final 2 years ago and probably bronze this time, by the next Afcon I believe they would have jellied so much to make them very formidable.
You get am! This team can only go up from here.

We just need a few tweaks in the midfield and defense but the chemistry is starting to come.

AFCONQ for ‘27 will start by the end of this year so this team should be ready to go again.

Just get better B2B midfielders and we’ll be set.

Let us be open. If someone can rise to be better than both Benjy and Bassey combined, he is welcome. But right now, Benjamin Frederick earns his place as the bonafide partner for Bassey. Nwaiwu would have to outdo Semi Ajayi first sef before we mention Benjy.

Benjy that benched Ekong?? That Benjy?? Nwaiwu cant touch him and Benjy is younger.

Benjamin is a rock star of a defender. He walked straight into the first eleven. I say this against the backdrop of the fact that players like Akinsanmiro and Nnadi are in this team but more like apprentice.

Only God knows why that boy got injured on the eve of the AFCON.
