Chinedu should be eagles captain, very calm despite his rugged play.
I don't like strikers being captain. I prefer goalkeepers and defenders.

Many players just like every other person need someone to believe in them. I was relentless in saying Bright is not a good defender but his performance became better and better in this Afcon especially in the last two crunch matches. If he can learn how to whip in crosses, he'd be a great RB for us.

I agree with Goke7 that Ola Aina will not stroll back into the first 11. I also agree with Kog45 that Aina will still be our first RB but he would have to raise his game because Bright has significantly raised his own game.

A backline of Aina, Benjamin, Bassey and Bruno will be impregnable.

Imagine two ball playing CBs. Oh God.
If Iwobi had to come up with spectacular performance to keep his place in the team so why won’t Aina?

Aina must work like Bassey to continue to command our respect
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Mujtahida: 6:39pm On Jan 16
When it was stated that Afcon will be a four year event and many people protested by saying that we are trying to Europeanize the AFCON, I resisted that idea because as Africans we tend to resist ideas with Pan African mindset instead of the merit or demerit of the idea.

With the AFCON coming to a close, I think it's best it continues to be a biannual event. It is one event that brings the continent together and unlike in the past, it's now commanding greater global attention. We are gaining traction. We should build on this momentum rather than let it zap out into a four year event.

Afcon dey sweet. And e dey pain.

You are beginning to sound like our blue font guy, TGJ. Pray tell, how is the penalty loss his fault? .

Right from the WCQ Play-offs, the team practised PKs in EVERY training session knowing they were knock-out games and there had to be a winner.

Even at this AFCON, during the Semi-final pre match presser, Chelle was specifically asked by a Nigerian journo if they were training for penalties and he confirmed they were. I also watched various Interviews of our players in which they said they were practising PKs in training just before the round of 16.

Go back and watch the WCQ playoff PSO, Bruno played our best PK. Fast, medium elevation and to the left of the goalkeeper. Obviously, Morocco prepared for the eventuality of PSO, studied tapes of our PK takers (including the WCQ playoff PSO) and their goalie had memorized how our players played PK. That's the reason Bounou stepped to his left rather than dive even before Bruno hit his PK. Unfortunately Bruno hit it tamely down the middle this time, and Bounou recovered and was able to stretch out a hand to stop it.

As per Chukwueze, do you honestly think that was the kinda PKs he was playing in training that Chelle brought him in specifically to take a PK? You sef reason am. Moreover, no matter how well a team prepares for penalty and how proficient they are, a winner must emerge and its just unfortunate we were on the losing side. Me, I can never blame Chelle for the outcome of the game. Our PK takers let him and Nigerians down.

Despite the painful loss, I am proud of the valiant effort of the team. I saw determination, fearlessness, fighting spirit and a "we die here attitude" all of which were missing in the DR Congo game. The team did not fold this time and just go through the motions, and that's in my opinion is our biggest win from the Morocco game.

Eric Chelle has given the Super Eagles a playing identity. He has met the semifinal target the NFF set for him and did so playing exciting and beautiful attacking football. He is still unbeaten in regulation + extra time with thie Super Eagles. He may not have gotten to the final like JP did in Ivory Coast but I regard him as our best coach in the last five years. The Super Eagles need some coaching stability, and I hope he stays and the NFF extends his contract till after the 2028 AFCON.

The 2027 AFCON will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania but shey una don hear say Morocco is considering hosting the 2028 AFCON as warm-up and preparation for the 2030 World cup that they're co-hosting with Spain and Portugal? This people wan use hosting win two AFCONS sharperly sha. Hopefully, Senegal spoils their planned party in the final just like the Super Falcons did.
Mbok, what have I done to deserve this.

I agree. You always rated Bruno ahead of Zaidu. While I insisted on Zaidu's quality based off his Afcon2023 showing albeit in an ultra defensive system, you said Jpes was not fair to Bruno and that Bruno could offer more.

Yes his fitness be Koko but if he can replicate form of 2023 to the day he got injured against South Africa then Aina is back

I will cut them some slack. That game is not what we will use to judge players. KlintCod said a Moroccan gave him ear buds to plug his ears because of the noise. Others said the same thing. I think we should just ease on them and not judge the players with that game.

The accounts from Nigerians in the stadium that day will make you feel for the players.

How Onuachu was able to steady his nerves beats me.

Onyedika failed the physical aggression test in a big game. He is still a MF that can be useful for us as his technical quality remains among the best in the team but I insist on my 3/3 criteria for midfield selection:
- Technical
- Tactically Progressive
- Physically aggressive

If you are not Physically aggressive/assertive as a MF, we go get problem.

Iwobi lost as much physical battles/duels as Onyedika in midfield but he remains the exception because he is the brainbox of our midfield.

Meaning Benjamin Frederick must work like Bassey to command our respect abi....cuz it will be Osayi/Aina and Ajayi/Frederick,fact Afcon starters have an edge but an seeing Aina and Benji starting if they're fit

I agree with you totally every player on that pitch stood be counted in the light of the prevailing circumstances.

Perfectly said, starting Iwobi and Onyedika is minus one, like playing 10 against 11,Frank was all over doing the tackling, even Lookman and Akor and this gave Osimhen tough game

No disrespect to Benji but Nwaiwu is a very strong contender for that position unlike Igoh Ogbu, Awaziem and co.

Not a big fan of Ajayi but he did a good job in this AFCON.

Bassey, Benji, Nwaiwu and Ajayi are my choices for any team list for now.

Benjamin is a rock star of a defender. He walked straight into the first eleven. I say this against the backdrop of the fact that players like Akinsanmiro and Nnadi are in this team but more like apprentice.

Only God knows why that boy got injured on the eve of the AFCON.
To be honest, we didn't really miss him
Shows how good our team is

I no vex again. I even appreciate ChrisKels because he - perhaps without intending to - made me realize that people thought I was attacking Chuks from the angle of tribalism. If I had suspected that people would see my opinion like that, I would have hushed up since after the match. That's gone sha.

Nobody walks into the team. You must earn your place. You slack off, you get benched or even thrown out of the team like Tolu.

We missed him oo. Benjamin used to go on this mazy drives. Against a side like Morocco, he'd have been a great pillar in that defense.

Nevertheless I salute Ajayi for the tremendous work he did manning the defense. He was jittery at the start of the match against Morocco but he stabilized and got the job done.
