🟢 With Nigeria's 3rd place victory vs Egypt, The Super Eagles🇳🇬 has won 70% of its penalty shootouts at the Africa Cup of Nations (7/10). Only Mali has a better ratio among nations that have participated in at least two shootouts in the competition's history (75% - 3/4).
Penalty Lords.

🟢 Nations that has played the most penalty shootouts at the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon):

11- 🇨🇮 Ivory Coast

10- 🇳🇬 Nigeria
9- 🇨🇲 Cameroon

Can Senegal Overcome this trend come sunday?

🇸🇳Senegal has failed to win any of its five knockout matches against the host nation at the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon):

1990 - Algeria 2-1 Senegal (semi-final)
2000 - Nigeria 2-1 Senegal (quarter-final)
2004 - Tunisia 1-0 Senegal (quarter-final)
2006 - Egypt 2-1 Senegal (semi-final)
2024 - Ivory Coast 1-1 (5-4 on penalties) Senegal (round of 16)

2025 - Morocco v Senegal (Final) ?? ❓️❔️❓️

Before Afcon 2025, the 2 previous times Nigeria lost on penalty shootouts was to the Afcon tournament winners.

🇳🇬 v Cameroon (tournament winners) in the 2000 final.

🇳🇬 v Tunisia (tournament winners) in the 2004 semi-final.

At Afcon 2025, we lost only our 3rd P.S.O vs Morocco before defeating Egypt on P.S.O in 3rd place to take our Afcon Penalty shootout success record to 7/10.

Saw the Egyptian coach giving clues to their keeper on where our players usually put their PKs but he could only save one.lol.

I like how Nwabali handles penalties..he anticipates the opponent but delays early movement..reason why even for the penalties scored against him, he usually dives in the right direction.
His left side is his weak side. Put it there, you'd score.

Hopefully Chelle builds on this cause we are finally solid in defence and goal keeping, Arthur Okonkwo will join soon as #2 to Nwabali and Benjamin will miss his defensive best friend (Bassey), Ajayi is in his best prime and will provide effective leadership till he retires with a gold trophy in AFCON 27/28 insha Allah.

The foundation already looks good, the only few tweaks needed will be for Chelle to inject new prospects (as he promised) like Durosinmi who will be the next big #9 for us to understudy Osimhen and build a partnership with Akor (who is learning a lot from Osimhen already). We need them as reliable strikers who can hold it down when Osimhen is injured etc

Lastly the North curse seems to be broken under Chelle, we beat every North African team in this tournament except Morocco (arguably the best and most complete team in Africa at the moment) we didn't lose to them in regulation time, it took PKs with all the dodgy officiatings and Chukwueze's gaffe for them to beat us.

I make bold to say that right now, no African team can talk to us on the pitch except for Morocco, Senegal and maybe Ivory Coast.
That Moroccan team will be exposed soon.

First touch don't mean sheet
Osimheen will get you goals and that's all that matters
See how isak and gyokores are struggling despite 1st touch lol
Can you guys put some respect on that guy's name
This is very disrespectful to a generational talent
In the streets boys go beat you o
First touch is the alpha and omega of football. Imagine if Bergkamp had a bad first touch, would he had been able to score this crucial goal?

I know but I still think if you place it there, you'd stand a greater chance to score than placing it on his right hand side.

I can't understand how Ajayi who I considered at best a squad player now rose up to be counted in this AFCON. Especially that we weren't defensive in this one like the last one Ekong won
Ajayi was a warrior.

There is a recurring theme in Eric Chelle's style that is highly limiting.

I have never resonated with the crowd in all my stands.

Eric Chelle is not yet the man.
When the right man shows up, you will witness my unwavering validation.

I am not advocating for his sack anyway.
All that i am saying is that we should not raise our hopes in him.

If Eric Chelle sees a better paying job let him take it and continue his growth.

Even the Moroccan coach did not outcoach Chelle. Let them meet on a neutral turf. Did you see what verydarkman said about the crowd?
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by benji93: 3:21am On Jan 18
"Wait until we get to neutral ground". There's no such thing. This is the mainstay whenever the host nation has a decent team. Find a way to win, or get booted out. A stadium routinely fills up with host fans, sometimes quite hostile. I have no idea how appealing to a non-expert helps you. This is not even new. The Moroccan team shut down our offense and home boy had no answer. This is when you separate yourself from the bunch. It's been just a year, and perhaps there's no need to be overly critical of the man. For a similar reason there's no reason to think he's a tactical master either. The jury is still out on your man, and we'll see what stuff he's made of as his managing stint unfolds.

You are the chairperson of an adhoc committee designated by the NFF to appoint a Grade A coach for the Super Eagles.

The remuneration of the coach is pegged at $50,000.

Kindly recommend your top three candidates for the job.

Kai semid,we Sabi ourselves here and our reasonings so sometimes it would be difficult for a newcomer here to understand reasons for some comments... don't be surprised everything is down to a player not getting enough playing time under the coach.

letting Chelle slip off our fingers will take the team back to level 0 and also one big mistake the NFF will regret
