I heard about Tongeji Island for the first time around the year 2000. There's oil on the island and it even hinders them from farming and some wells on the island are polluted with oil.

They did not have electricity or pipe borne water at the time.

Gendarmes from the Republic of Benin often disturbed them and they often cried out to the government that they did not want to be another Bakasi (they did not want to be taken over by another country).

The Nigerian Navy came to their aid and dug boreholes for them to have water.

The Ogun State Government also appealed to the Federal Government to site a naval base on the island.

Tongeji Island is in Ipokia Local Government and it is not far from Badagry in Lagos (which also has oil) and Benin Republic.

Everyone is trying to upgrade their backyard streams and rivers to deep seaport just to have a share of the sea economy that has long been ceded to Lagos alone ..

This leadership lack proper orientation on economy development. The development is for what purpose? Will it create avenue for youths to move into productivity, those youths that are neck bent to remain in the city?
What awareness have they created among the indigenes to mobilize for massive employment
What scheme have been drawn before approving such contract which will some chunk of funding will go through.

What really delayed the project?
A state blessed with so-called “great” politicians, yet crippled by selfish interests, corruption, and deep disunity. Instead of prioritizing the people, personal gains and power struggles took center stage, and progress paid the price.

Is the same you guys that are crying foul that other people are residing in large numbers in Lagos after you people finish taking all food to Lagos then you will want to relax and eat it alone. You guys are not sincere people.
Don’t worry. We will take all of it back to Maiduguri and we can all go there to eat together.

Another wasteland in the making. Is it about more oil, or being efficient and not wasteful with already existing resources

Ogun and Ondo states had a proposal for a joint free trade zone in the early 2000s. They got Dangote to build a refinery in the zone.

However, there was a dispute along the way and the project did not see the light of day (Dangote built his refinery in Lagos).

It seems the two states have now decided to go their separate ways and do independent projects.
Amosun was alleged to have demanded a percentage cut in the refinery which angered Dangote forcing his attention to Lagos and Tinubu snapped at it the way a lizard will snap at an insect.

Everything is being concentrated in SW zone, what happens to other parts of Nigeria like eastern seaports in Calabar, Rivers or Warri. This is not healthy for a country that want to be widely developed.

There is enormous crude oil in Ikoyi Lagos and Iragbiji Osun state too, they should also explore these two areas for more crude oil please.

God should please give crude oil to all Yoruba states and Northern states so that they can be confident enough to allow Nigeria divide peacefully for every region to go and build their dream nation based on their culture, tradition, religious belief and vision because this forced Nigerian union is not working and will never work since Yorubas and Hausa-Fulanis have swore that equity, justice, fairness and truth will never prevail in Nigeria just because they want to continue to use politics of ethnicity, religious division and bigotry to hold on to Nigeria's collective resources they plunder and share among their political criminal gangs and sycophants angry
grin pain is that you? Yoruba land is not barren like sad yeast…..Ondo state alone produce more crude than the 2cup of palm oil gotten from your potopoto region. Lagos is also an oil producing state and now Ogun is about to join the league…….the only people afraid of division are the people who can’t survive in their region without migrating to other region for survival, that’s the sad irony of this class of people who keep crying of freedom yet they keep desert their region grin

Even without oil, more than 50% of your kinsmen are already allover Yorubaland, earning a living and enjoying economic survival with peace of mind. Getting crude oil will only boost the economy of Yorubaland the more and make all the residents have a better living. But if you are not happy with this, you can take your leave now without waiting for the oil to be explored. You're excused already.

The dispute was caused by Dapo Abiodun. Dangote was frustrated and took his refinery to Lekki.l Free Trade Zone. Ogun State lost out. The rest is history.
