Concrete road, Dave Umahi kind of road, but very substandard materials.

Stop the unnecessary criticism already. Concrete roads suits our tropical environments more than their tar counterpart. The APC administration may be the worst thing to happen to Nigeria but Umahi is specially good at what he does.

You guys just come online to say what you shouldn't be saying.

The right choice depends on your project requirements, budget as well as location. Asphalt is smooth and quick to build, while concrete is strong and lasts longer

If you are going to Ebonyi from Enugu, immediately you drive on the concrete road, even a blind man would notice how rough it is.

I worked in 4 different local governments in Ebonyi and I could see those concrete construction more. Umahi tried when it comes to road construction ,but I think the contractor is still learning how to do concrete road. All of them is not smooth, and many are already old. Even in Enugu state around Eke bridge, you could see how rough they are. They aren't beautiful and clean. It make the steering vibrate.

I agree with you. The drive is so rough. Anything above 60 or 80km per hour na so all the bolt for ur car go dey vibrate

The one dangote constructed at Obajana highway is solid, smooth and withstanding the factory heavy duty trucks plying that road for over 12years.

the one done between tin can port to oshodi in lagos is fine they dont wear tires too

I will like to commend FG for choose quantity way of road construction that can long last. No need to waste money on reconstruction of same road in short term

I have past thru that one in obajana. Solid yes, smooth ,no. I didn't enjoy that 30mins drive at all

That’s when tarred road is of highest quality and that’s not the case in Nigeria. The highest quality tarred road we have had in Nigeria was built in the early 80s.
Tarred roads we build in Nigeria today are soft. They don’t have ‘hardener’, binder, or enzymes in them to make them hard and withstand water and hot weather.
Contractors will include them in Bill of Quantity, when quoting for contract but they will tell bitumen company not to include them so as to make more profit from the contract.
Go and see Lagos-Ibadan road. You can’t drive well on the fast-lane. The lane has been pressed by heavy duty vehicles and vehicles skid easily on them.
Check other tarred Nigerian roads. They melt easily when hot.

Concrete roads get better overtime, when worn-out tires have deposited on them. They become smoother and still grip well.

Highways are made with tar in U.K. and US, I won’t say about other countries before I didn’t take note when I went, but I am sure of U.K. and US

There are some highway with concrete in USA too. You’ll see them more in Texas.

In addition to this, Apapa Oworonshoki expway is a concrete road, constructed by Dangote.
No skidding when it rains also

So it's all about the quality of the concrete road, not that concrete roads are not good 👍🏽

You need to look at long term maintenance...concrete is better given our lack of maintenance culture. Yes you dont get as much traction which means drivers should apply sense and refrain from driving to early grave.

They both have their pros and cons.

Concrete road no be road, nah only Nigeria is dey see concrete road

Driving from Ibadan Expressway into Apapa, who knows the exact point asphalt merges with concrete road?
It the difference significant to the driving experience

In my opinion,even though I am not an engineer. I think they should also use ass-fat ,after using the concrete. It will make it super solid.. That Ass-fat it's important because of true grips

I'll put this here.

What I got from this is that concrete roads are better for our climate ( tropical) than Asphalt, as it provides better resistance to the weather and lasts longer, but asphalt is cheaper to build but it's lifespan is just 10-12 years and is susceptible to our tropical weather and prone to potholes.

If you ask me I will choose concrete over asphalt in this case

The Gbagada general hospital road in Lagos done under fashola is still holding on strong

Concrete done welll last longer than tarred, don't argue over it, then smooth it's surface with asphalt a bonus

Wetin person wan do to satisfy you fuuulish people

It will depend on the terrain i don't think tarred roads is suitable for swampy environment.

Come and see the one on Lekki-Epe expressway, it's not even up two years. It's already showing cracks .

Honestly, I hate driving on those Ebonyi roads

Umahi just wasted money on those roads

Glad to see though that the conversation is moving from no roads or government is doing nothing, to which roads are better. i also have some reservations about the concrete roads, but what do i know, we've used asphalt all our country life.

Whenever I'm driving around Ebonyi, I always ask why they didn't overlay it tar for smooth driving experience
