Everyday i see different advices on twitter encouraging everybody to go learn a tech skill We graduate about 500,000 young Nigerians every year, imagine all of them going into coding, UI/UX, data analysis etc.. which country will absorb all of them, because definitely no company in Nigeria will absorb 2% of that? We seriously need jobs in this country We can't continue adapting . Is it the fault of the government or the citizens are not learning skills?

Maybe you are not familiar with tech as smart and revolutionary skill. Many of tech jobs has no boundaries limitation. It is a global job where you can function with the right knowledge even if you are living in a remote location. |

The thing is that tech can absorb so many people because it's an enabler - it's used to drive other industries. But tech is most likely experiencing its last boom before artificial intelligence renders techies useless. I'm forecasting this will happen in the next 15 - 20 years. AI research labs are now paying their workers handsomely because those employees are building projects that will take their place. Some pay as high as $150 per hour while others pay $500k per annum. |

The consequence of tech to a Nigeria is not in employment problem, as the skill draws its from global market. The implication can be traced to reduction in tangible products which can lead to inflation |

Open your eyes, tech is the new gold and oil combined. The fact is not everyone who tried to learn it will end up earning with it.Some may dropout due to burnout, others may fall into tutorial hell, and only a few will succeed. All in all, there are enormous potential in Tech, if your mind dey, enter with full force. |

It’s just the Nigerian mentality. Once they hear or see that a particular business, skill or job fetches good money, many will rush into it. |

Because they don't even know what Tech is. Secondly, Nigerian loves anything that trends. It happened with stocks Then they moved to forex. Then it HYIPs like MMM Then "tech." And basically 98% of those Nigerians you see posting on LinkedIn that they are into tech don't even know what tech is. Simply because they can do one job for a lazy secretary in Canada and get paid $1500, which gives them a strong spending value in Nigeria, they go around, buy fancy things, and think that they are into tech. Now let me explain tech for those who really want to go into tech: Tech is not being able to type "def function()" in Python and arrange a dataframe with graphs as well. Excel can do almost everything that we call tech if that is the only thing we know as tech. True tech is being able to apply a new computer-based method to your specialization. Take note of the word "specialization." Meaning that if you don't have a specialization, you are not into tech. You are just floating around and waiting for the next trend. You only apply it effectively to a field you are a specialist in, or you specialize to apply it. Either one of the two. It is not just about designing "fintech apps" with drag and drops. |

There's unlimited space in Tech and people love cool fields but we need to distribute skills to other areas like Plumbing, Carpentry etc but hopefully, Robotics will help the shortage. |

Jakarta:You said it as it is, especially the part highlighted in red. The trap of tutorial hell comes from unstructured paths, skipped prerequisites, and assumptions about prior knowledge across one thousand and onety-one tutorials, which often results in spaghetti knowledge that leads to nothing productive. Learners jump from one tutorial to another without fully understanding, leaving many gaps in their knowledge. An example is in the PHP domain: some people take crash courses or bootcamps on PHP, then jump into a framework like Laravel through courses on Laracasts, build a few CRUD apps, and expect to be hired as a junior developer immediately. What they forget is that even Laracasts, a top resource for Laravel, assumes learners already have at least intermediate PHP knowledge to follow some of their courses and be independently creative. |

With AI slated and even beginning to wipe out a lot of entry level tech jobs, the global consensus is that tech isn't really the hot cake it used to be. That field is already very competitive. With just a simple prompt in Gemini, it gave me the code for an app that randomly generates numbers following a set pattern. It even offered a number of other features that I found useful. I think cloud and DevOps still holds good prospects though. But DevOps isn't for everyone. I think that's the most frustrating aspect of tech. But the money is good from what I hear. A friend who moved to the UK years ago specialized in DevOps and from what he showed me, last year he saved close to 500 million naira after tax. He is quite sort after and travels all over the world. It took him 8 years to get there and he plans to retire this year at 42. He encourages young folks who have a passion for tech to go into it but they need to be very intentional about it. In 10-15 years just about every aspect of tech will be AI dominated but cloud technologies still hold bright and vast potentials for anyone willing to put in the level of work ethic and dedication required. |
