In the U.S. in general, Republican-controlled states tend to tax their residents lower income tax while Democrat-controlled states tend to tax their residents more.

SE contributes heavily through low unemployment from entrepreneurship, not by heavy consumption and big government spending.

The economy of SE is dominated by traders, manufacturers, transporters, and small business owners who are producing, distributing and creating value

VAT is a consumption tax, not a productivity tax. Regions that contribute more through retail chains and government funded spending, will generate more VAT. Regions that focus on production and reinvestment will generate less VAT.

Low VAT is not evidence of low economic activity, it’s just evidence that the business activity is structured differently
