Okay, here's the problem

For over a decade now, the African continent has had an issue with snake antivenom.

A while ago one foreign company was making snake antivenom nom for the African continent(Sanofi), but then they pulled out before 2010

About the only antivenom available in Africa is imported from India and other countries which brings us to problem no 2

Snake antivenom om must be specific for the snake that is in the country before one can be sure it works.

Right now only one research group makes snake antivenom for Nigeria and it is only for two snakes specie , meaning a bite by any other species is problematic.( The report is incomplete by the way, as it doesn't say which snake was responsible). And the thing is not widely available

That's why most hospitals don't have snake antivenom in Nigeria. They probably referred her to a teaching hospital that might and I emphasize might, have the appropriate one.

Twice they have brought patient (victims of snake bite) to my hospital who were rejected at govt facility.
My dear people it was a serious case.
No pharmacy was available for anti-venom and d patients were bleeding almost to death.
My people na that day I know say God is always on duty post.
Nothing wey I no use...
I use onions, garlic, I tell my wife to drive down that midnight with gbogbo nise wey I get for house. And I was trying everything including hydrocortisone injection, dexamethasone and followed with antibiotics.
U see reptiles, I am proud to say I am scared of them. No shame about it. Sometime in d past I came back and my kids told me they saw snake inside d toilet sitter. I called an agent immediately and moved out of that apartment d next day.
Even in my house now I make sure the soakaway pit is well checked to see if there's anywhere the slabs are broken and I pour kerosene and salt inside d toilet sitters every month.

My people two of them still dey alive now (but on both case scenarios) they were all out of d act of God's miracle.

Honestly, native solution is the best way oo, e fit no work, but the chances of survival is higher than any hospital, as you don't know a hospital that has the venom, if you do, you don't know if they have the one you need, if you do, it might not be anywhere close to you.

Can someone knowledgeable educate us on remedy for snake bite in matters like this to save life. Be it medically, scientifically, herbally, native ways or otherwise.

I am not sure if this would work. If snake bites me I will quickly tie the area to prevent the venom from moving to other parts of the body. And then I would quickly use a blade to cut the area to drain out the blood and venom in the area. This is better than doing nothing.

She was bitten by a Snake.

You only administer Anti-venom based on the snake type as we are taught in school. It was after she passed that Snake catchers were sent to her house and the snake killed.

Not a good way to die. May God Almighty comfort her family.

This is very sad. I believe we have plenty "alternative medicine" that can be easily sourced locally. Instead of waiting for modern antivenin that might be difficult to get why not try out ours locally.



We have medics, scientist, lab experts and all. Why not take our local findings and churn them into workable solutions?

You are correct but then you should know that Polyvalent is not your everyday antidote to stock and again it speaks a lot about our Standard in Nigeria that's why I accepted that we need to up our standard.

I read Cobra bite is usually treated successfully with neem leaves,moringa leaf or bark ,and mango bark in rural India.

Anti venom for snake bite is not universal.

Each snake specie has its own antidote.

Accidental death in Nigeria is almost assured. Try your best to stay safe. If it happens, wave your people bye.
