No single antidote that works for all snakes, every specie of snake has it's own kind of antidote, remember this are weaker form of the snake venom that are prepared under certain lab conditions sometimes using Lab animals to trigger sufficient immune response,as a country we are lacking behind on that.

I just wish we can give certain level of seriousness to our health sector so many tragic deaths are avoidable. This are things we can make our selves if the Policy makers things its too expensive for the to stock.

I lived with a snake for over 6 months inside my apartment without knowing. It has already grown big before I discovered it and it was killed.

Because the antivenom costs N50k per shot and most private hospitals don't see snake bite patients frequently (it doesn't happen to their highest paying customer), so they don't carry it.

Nigeria is a poor, badly-run country. Every state should have Government hospitals with antivenom.

We don't have research labs, we don't have manufacturing, we don't have cold storage. A serious state govt should vex and give everything to encourage a drug manufacturer to move there

Exactly what happened to my love one August last year. We lost him an agile young man with a wife and 3 boys. We went to 2 private hospitals no anti venom we then went to Kubwa general hospital there was no anti venom. In fact one of the Dotors told us to go and kill the snake so they would know how to treat him. We are still in pains from that very incident.

See ehn, snake bite is not a frequent thing unlike Malaria, stomach ache , tooth ache , etc. Some of these medical personnel don't know the antidote to snake bite. I bet you ....most hospitals in Nigeria don't have it.

There is this Yoruba concotion called gbomgbonise. It is black in colour. Every family should try get it. It is very powerful if you get the original one. Just a spoonful of it, could have saved her. It was what my grandfather used to cure snakes and dog's bite. As an igbo man I don't play with it. Even you eat poison take it

This is so true.
I have heard about the pawpaw seed before.
That seed is really underrated.

That was how God used a plant like that to help me regain my blood level.
My PCV fell to a paltry amount, 16. I needed 4 blood transfusion to get myself.
I did but never really recovered until I took this plant.

Okay, here's the problem

For over a decade now, the African continent has had an issue with snake antivenom.

A while ago one foreign company was making snake antivenom nom for the African continent(Sanofi), but then they pulled out before 2010

About the only antivenom available in Africa is imported from India and other countries which brings us to problem no 2

Snake antivenom om must be specific for the snake that is in the country before one can be sure it works.

Right now only one research group makes snake antivenom for Nigeria and it is only for two snakes specie , meaning a bite by any other species is problematic.( The report is incomplete by the way, as it doesn't say which snake was responsible). And the thing is not widely available

That's why most hospitals don't have snake antivenom in Nigeria. They probably referred her to a teaching hospital that might and I emphasize might, have the appropriate one.

All we can do is pray Kenya and Rwanda take Drug manufacturing for the continent of Africa seriously.

That’s a forest cobra. Very intruding snake specie. Always ready to bite even when not cornered or disturbed .

Most deaths in Nigeria can be avoided. Imagine if there was anti-venom at the health facilities she visited, she would have been alive.

Not all kinds of snake bites. They is no antivenom for all types of snake bites!

Actually they are used to neutralise venoms from most poisonous snakes in our region without having to identify the particular snake type.

Snakes 🐍 are the most stupeed dangerous animals on earth. Because snakes have little head, they contain little intelligence matter.

Other dangerous wild animals avoid human habitation, but because of little brain of Snakes, they also enter human habitation.

You are not wrong. They are different types of antivenom for different species of snakes. Antivenom for cobra bite does not work for viper’s bite.

Neurotoxicity Antivenom is for snakes like Cobras, Black Mambas and Coral Snakes.

Hemotoxic Antivenom for snakes like vipers, puff adders and rattle snakes.

2013/2014, served in GH Mokwa. There was abundance of anti snake venom. Intact snake bite occurs commonly during farming season in Mokwa and patients readily God anti snake venom.
That there is no Anti snake venom in the whole of Abuja baffles me

The government didn't fail you, Nigerians failed themselves!!! Perpetual hopeless powerless hapless victims!

Study our people critically. Yet they can have babies after babies after babies but cant produce anything to make life better.

This story is so weird and tragic. Where did the snake come from? And with all the snakes parading Nigeria, why do they not have anti-venom or means to save someone with a snake bite? Terrible.
