hmmm, ordinary snake bite , I have seen a small boy bleeding from the mouth and some other body parts because of complications from snake bite.it is true majority of snakes are not venomous but the few 10-30% of those that are venomous can be catastrophic when they strike.

At least they had something to work with, unfortunately it wasn't enough to save her.

Writing all these medical jargons to bamboozle us doesn't change the fact that most Government-owned hospitals are very nonchalant when it comes to attending to Nigerians, especially ones requiring emergency medical attention.
A lot of their doctors are always disgruntled, angry and rude. Only a few remain calm and well behaved.
My last experience at the Lagos State General Hospital wasn't very pleasant at all. I just feel the current Nigeria is frustrating the hell out of every Nigerian.

The real issue is money.

I find LASUTH quite good. The consultatancy is free but you pay for drugs and surgeries.

If people want better health delivery, they must be ready to pay taxes. That is the blunt truth.

Overdependent on crude oil for revenue puts the all tiers of the mercy of crude oil price fluctuations. Once non-oil taxes are higher than crude oil revenue, the government can start paying doctors better, funding more hospital treatment such as surgery and so on.

The only way they can exonerate themselves from this is a proper time stamp of the deceased until the time they pronounced her dead and backing it up with adequate scientific evidence that the foul play wasn't as a result of their own negligence or lack of all necessary medications. The time the snake bit her, when she was admitted, how long under any giving condition does the snake venom usually becomes fatal, and what was the patient medical condition. If all this didn't add up. I truly hope they sue the hell of that institution, and shame all those who are in charge for letting such a tragedy hit the family of this young vibrant lady..

People should try and get anything that repel snakes and keep in their surroundings because this is heartbreaking. Prevention is easier than the treatment.

It's ordinary let's say the hospital she went to had the right medication

Antivenom is not a single drug
Each snake bite has a different antivenom

Antivenom is made from snake venom

That means somebody has to go and capture the snake and get the venom

After a snake bite there has to be information about the type of snake before giving Antivenom

If snake bite is not a common public health issue then there won't be Antivenom in Stock


Different snake bites kill in different ways e.g
some can stop breathing,
bleeding to death
or kidney failure

It is said that she had neurotoxicity which implies she stopped breathing
Likely a cobra

Maybe if they had mechanical ventilator they could have used machines to take over her breathing even without Antivenom

That is very expensive stuff and I wonder how many such machines are in the whole country with the staff doctors and nurses trained to operate them


There are some pla es in the world where snakes bite people daily they are likely to have more expertise and things like antivenom

I think that is the case in places like Bauchi Gombe

All these medical jargons is to save their face. Government owned hospitals in Nigeria don't care. This is for those who don't use these hospitals. If you go to Luth in Lagos and see how accidents victims are packed on bare floors, then, you will understand that there is no hope for emergency situations in Nigeria.

The first question any competent medical professional will ask is, what kind of snake bit her? This will quickly narrow down and pinpoint the most effective anti-venom for that particular kind of snake.

The shameful disgrace of Nigeria is that the whole federal capital territory doesn't have a centre equipped with anti-venom that any hospital across Abuja can call and have it available in minutes.

Abuja is expanding. It is inevitable that this expansion will reach areas that certain wildlife have long regarded as home. These displaced animals, snakes inclusive, start entering residential areas. The case of the Airforce personnel who got bitten by a snake that crawled through her soak-away into her toilet, is fresh in memory. Her house was built in a freshly claimed area.

Yet just a 45 minute drive from Abuja, along the Abuja-Keffi expressway, is a snake farm owned by a retired Chief of Army staff. The most evil CAS this country has ever had. Snake venom is steadily harvested from that farm and shipped abroad.

Most of those retired chiefs are hardened criminals.
They have stolen unimaginable huge amount of public funds...
They are the ones causing many of the problems we have in this country today...

why doctor no go para? they are under paid, under valued and over worked while politicians who actually do nothing, like politicians arent useful at all, just sat down, talk few stuff but go home with over 100m per yaer. omo, how did few politicians convince the majority of humans to allow them to loot them dry?
