ICRC Approves Business Case for Nigeria’s $60 Billion High Speed Bullet Train Project The Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC) has approved the Outline Business Case (OBC) for Nigeria’s first bullet train, a $60 billion high-speed rail project to be funded by China Liancai Petroleum Investment Holdings. He noted that under the current administration, nearly 90% of the necessary approvals have now been granted, and the investment from China has been formally confirmed with proof-of-funds documents presented during the meeting. “The high-speed rail bullet train project that we started 10 years ago; it is this administration that has given us almost 90 percent of approvals. Today, with our partners, China’s Liancai Corporation, we have just presented official proof of funds for the project,” Uko stated. He added, “The federal government of Nigeria, through the ICRC, approved the Outline Business Case, and the next step now was for us to submit the proof of funds to the government, which we have just done.” George Akume said the investment aligns with the government’s broader infrastructure agenda but noted that the submitted documents would be subjected to verification to confirm the availability of funds. He emphasized that while the government does not doubt the investors, reviewing the documents is a standard procedure to establish the real amount of money available. Minister of State for Petroleum, Ekperike Ekpo, added that Nigeria has sufficient gas resources to meet the project’s energy requirements, highlighting the country’s readiness to support high-speed rail operations. Minister of Transportation, Alkali, confirmed that his ministry had submitted the OBC to the ICRC and would now work on completing the Full Business Case. ICRC Director General, Oseodion Ewalefoh, said the commission will review and validate all submissions to ensure the project meets regulatory requirements before proceeding. China is also spending $25 billion to help build a massive gas processing city in the Delta region that will transform the gas sector and create millions of jobs. 4 Likes |

You want to build bullet train while the rail network need all the cash to improve all railway lines in every nook and cranny of the country. We leave basics things unattended to and start chasing advanced tasks. Solve the basic problem first and leave all these bigger things for when the foundations are laid. If it’s not that you guys plan to loot, tell me why Nigeria should be taking of bully trains when like some said above we are yet to solve electricity (a core component in such method of transportation), medical, road etc. |

Sheuns:Firstly, it's a Chinese-funded project, so there's nothing to "loot", and secondly, if you'd read the report, which you're too lazy to, you would know that the network is to be powered by harnessing our natural gas, in advanced gas-fired plants, meaning it would likely even generate extra power to add to the national grid. 2 Likes |

They are deceiving Nigerians with yet another failed project designed for exit fraud, just in case they lose the election. Germany's Siemens built China's high-speed rail system, yet we turn to China to purchase substandard technology that we cannot even afford. What about our experience with the Lagos-Ibadan and Abuja-Kaduna trains that break down every 20 kilometres?. What about the much-trumpeted Lagos blue, red, purple and green lines?. Are these also the metro systems that some of them enjoy when they visit other places, including Morocco?. Nigerian politicians are evil. |
