LG Crisis: Oyetola Slams Osun Assembly Over Claim He Is Meddling In Council Affairs
The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Mr Gboyega Oyetola, dismissed the claim by the Osun State House of Assembly, that he is meddling in the affairs of local government in the state.

The Assembly had in a press statement on Sunday morning, frowned at what it described as the “illegal meddleso meness”of the blue economy minister.

It noted that “Mr Oyetola, a nephew to President Tinubu, has no constitutional, statutory, or moral authority to control Local Governments funds, issue instructions on LG funds, influence banks, or direct security agencies in respect of LG administration, adding that “being related to the President confers no legal power to interfere in the affairs of Osun State Local Governments as Nigeria is governed by laws, not family ties.”

But Oyetola, in a statement by his Special Adviser, Dr Bolaji Akinola, said that all local governments in Nigeria have financial autonomy, and are beyond the control of any person or entity, including the state government.

Akinola said the attempt to link Oyetola to the administration or disbursement of local government funds was reckless propaganda designed to distract the public from the state government’s own failures and ongoing legal battles.

He stressed that the Minister has no constitutional or statutory role in local government finance and has neither issued directives to banks nor interfered in the running of local councils.

Dr Akinola stated that the press statement by the Assembly merely recycled the same discredited narratives earlier pushed by Governor Ademola Adeleke, describing them as a desperate attempt to unlawfully reassert state control over local government funds in defiance of binding court judgments.

According to him, “the Osun State Government and the State Assembly are uncomfortable with the reality that local governments have full financial autonomy protected by the Constitution and the Supreme Court.”

He pointed out that the Supreme Court judgment delivered on 11 July 2024 unequivocally granted full financial autonomy to all local governments in Nigeria, affirming their independence and expressly barring state governors from interfering in their affairs or hijacking their funds.

He said the judgment was clear, final and incapable of being overturned by press releases or political threats.

Akinola also recalled that a valid and subsisting judgment of the Court of Appeal delivered on 10 February 2025 reinstated the duly elected local government chairmen in Osun State.

He emphasised that the Osun State Government chose not to appeal the judgment, making it final, binding and enforceable in law.

“By that decision, the reinstated chairmen are lawfully entitled to administer their councils, a fact he said the state government has persistently but unsuccessfully sought to undermine,” he added.

Oyetola is just a crude, useless and very mean human being. They call him baba jeje but his demeanour and behaviour are complete opposite. One thing I see in this Tinubu government is impunity and lack of respect for rule of law. Tinubu has made Nigeria his footstool and this is dangerous for the sustainability of this country. Osun people are enjoying today because they rejected Tinubu and his wicked cronies. They still want to impose AMBO by force but I trust my osun people. No place for Tinubu in Osun state. People will rather die than go back to Egypt. There is nothing democratic in Tinubu.

Is that not the speaker of this same house of assembly that threatened a King? You will see what they will use against him sooner or later.

So what is nice about the response. Who is holding on to the local government funds. The state government have tried and even deployed legals means but all to no avail. Tell your people that power is transient. If malami can be humbled, the days of your own is on its way and we hope by then you won't bring some of your elders to start begging with their agbada up and down. Enjoy your autocratic system while it last.

This is another sign of the deep political tension in Osun. Oyetola’s response suggests he’s trying to distance himself from the crisis, but the Assembly’s claim shows how sensitive LG matters have become.

There is no confusion beyond the lawlessness of Oshiomaole's Assembly of Past Criminals, APC.

Why should the Yes/No councillors and chairmen illegally occupy the LGA offices after they were sacked in November 2022 in the case filed by APP huh

Appeal Court Removed ‘Illegal’ NURTW President ‘MC Oluomo’, But He Won’t Quit Office

Musiliu Akinsanya, a former chairman of the Lagos State Parks and Management Committee, has continued to disregard the law in acting as national president of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), a trade union of transport workers in the country.

In November 2024, a Court of Appeal in Abuja affirmed an earlier National Industrial Court of Nigeria judgment pronouncing Tajudeen Ibikunle Baruwa as president of the union.

Baruwa had served for four years and he was to be serving his second term, having been reelected in August 2023, three months to the termination of his first tenure as enunciated by the union’s constitution.

But some members of the union, led by Najeem Usman Yasin, a former president of the same union and current chairman of its Board of Trustees (BoT), disputed Baruwa’s re-election, causing the police in the Federal Capital Territory to arrest and detain him many times.

Yasin unilaterally dissolved the National Administrative Council led by Baruwa and then facilitated the setting up of a National Caretaker Committee to administer the union. At this point, Baruwa and 13 others, including the NURTW as a juristic personality, headed to the National Industrial Court.

Who has heard anything from this minister concerning the blue economy they put him in charge of
Suddenly his prick is erect and he's found his voice when it came to Osun matter
All these folks are just feeding off the system doing nothing other than using federal might to play local politics

If you need information about the blue economy and Oyetola's performance there, make your investigation. Stop mixing Osun's vulgar politics with an individual's duty as Federal Government's Minister.

Just listen to yourself. How many APC states are operating without the collaboration of he local government. That's pure hypocrisy. It clearly shows that you know nothing about true federalism. If the federal government is serious about it , it will also allow the states to self govern and manage their resources.
