Like the 90s generation that touched the final in 1990 and lost to the host, taking bronze in 1992 before finally hitting Gold in 1994 and making it to the World Cup, I reckon the present generation are on same path (final loss to host in 2023, Bronze in 2025, heading for Gold in 2027) and the only difference is the WC ticket.

Low key, and I repeat, Low key ooo... I believe this is actually another Golden Generation but most won't call this era golden because of the back to back world cup miss.
This generation has 2 APOTYs and a fine pool of defenders and midfielders rising really strong. In attack, we are also not short of options as new blood is being pumped already.

I believe folks are waiting for this current generation to win something (Especially the Afcon title) before the term "Golden" can be added to this era's name. That seems fair but time will prove how good this present generation really are (in years to come). So, my people, appreciate them now.

Hindsight, down the years, will hit even harder.

This does not even make sense, I told you that I watched every minute of the match (and 90% of city's matches this season) and this is your argument, it's better to concede that you were deceived by Sofascore or live broadcast (whatever that means) than arguing that you watched the match and saw O'Reilly or Bernardo Silva as a lone dm

And these broadcast companies actually set these line ups based on what they think managers would play which may not always be the case
How did you know that i got my info from Sofascore?
The truth is that you are the one who seems to be quoting sofascore.
Stop accusing me

You claimed you saw the match, and yet couldn't easily see that Mancity clearly maintained a 4-1-4-1 shape.
My last words to you on this matter is that you need to have your eyes washed with pure water

You're very right on this; that's why they keep dragging the player every time he hangs out with his friends in Lagos. Even an ex-Eagles player was bashing Osihmen on this in a podcast just last week.

One thing I don't understand about Nigerians is this: why hate on what you love?
I don't think we have ever had a player like Osimhen who is hated not because of his football but just because of who he is.

People no like the guy oo. And the virus is spreading.

Where you rack up the stats matters more than the stats itself. It's the reason the European leagues goals coefficient exist.
so someone scoring in league 2 is better than someone doing better in Belgium and Turkey? 🙄

Lol this clearly shows you are arguing for the sake of argument not for the sake of arriving at the truth and you clearly didn't watch the match but you are desperately using broadcast lineups and sofascore lineups published before the match to make your points for you.

This is my last words for you (unlike you I keep to them) I watched the match and Pep didn't use either Bernardo or O'Reilly as a lone dm in a must win game against Galatasaray (he would be crazy to do so) Not every match that you have to watch but claiming you knew what went on in the match using predictive sites is funny, formation actually changed in the second half with the introduction of Foden but your sofascore and Uefa sites didn't tell you about it, did it grin

Note: The lineup you got from Uefa despite it being wrong formation wise it was also wrong positionally, Doku played through the center while Marmoush played off the right

This is precisely what I noticed. It's horrible what our people do. They do not love Lookman. They simply don't like Osimhen because he has a circle of friends that does include them. So they use Lookman to poke him.

With Oliseh adding fuel to this stupid narrative, we may never look with clean eyes at games involving Osimhen and Lookman. That's why I was livid with Oliseh.

It is one thing to criticize a player but once you start knocking one player against the other, your intention is to destroy to team.

It's really unfortunate.
Lol, Nigerians are horrible people normally. It runs in the blood. See Oma Agbayatungba that normally eats free food in Italy courtesy of Victor Osimhen is throwing shades at him now.

Life. Why I love Osimhen and will forever love him is that HE DOESN'T CARE! He's focused, he knows what he wants and he achieves them by any means possible, on and off the pitch, no be X banger boys dey control him narratives.

They can keep ranting, he's deaf to all of the noise. Osimhen wey their national team no fit do without? Awon werey.

This generation is very talented but they need to break new ground before we consider them a golden generation. Win an AFCON title (or two, because to be honest, we are good enough for 27 and 28) and perhaps get to the QF/SF in WC and then it'll be our greatest set, yet.

Oma Akatugba is a disgrace.

This is someone who Osimhen fed, sponsored his trips to Italy, gave free match tickets for Napoli games, help build connections and access to Italian sports media and journalists, and generally benefitted a lot from Osimhen that is misyarning and throwing shades because Osimhen cut him off.

I like Lookman and rate him highly but even if he had signed for Real Madrid and Osimhen was playing in Saudi, Osimhen would still be the Super Eagles 001 and most important player.

Gbam. Well said, these clowns just want to put unnecessary tension between both players, and want to cause rifts between the fans of both players as well, the fans part shouldn't even be a thing because they are both Super Eagles players, but with what I'm seeing, a lot of people have turned to Lookman's fans so that they can shade Osimhen at every given opportunity. Again Osimhen doesn't care and is the face of Nigerian football always...

Oma should be ashamed of himself.

less any long term injury and we should be seeing 40 Nigeria goals by year end. 6 afcon qualifiers in september and november, two friendlies in march and june, 3 World cup matches (long shot but hope is free). It will be a welcome development to see. Iheanacho showed promise in breaking the record but fizzled out. Thankfully osimhen is very close and can increase it. 37 goals is too small for a country like nigeria.

I like the "vex carry ball go house" analogy. It's so apt grin

Below is my post earlier today on the issue in another thread.

Good news. Morocco should officially withdraw already, they shouldn't waste time so South Africa can steo in timely. They should even go further and withdraw from participating in the WAFCON, good riddance to bad rubbish.

Morocco has well-developed infrastructure, state of art stadia and sporting facilities, and were very good hosts but they're terrible sportsmen and their sense of sportsmanship is zero.

This thing started after the WAFCON when they filed a petition to CAF against the Namibian referee that officiated the final for "refereeing injustices" and the fallout was the resignation of the Ivorian head of the CAF referees committee who cited "interference" for quitting.

CAF subsequently appointed someone from DR Congo to head the Referees Committee and the outcome was the poor and blatantly pro-Morocco officiating we watched in the 2025 AFCON.

As a result, they got away with too much on the pitch. Their players constantly foul-baited referees, played to con VAR, committed bookable offences without being carded, penalties not being awarded against them etc They stole opposing keeper towels, used lasers, stadium stewards physically assaulted players and committed all manners of gamesmanship tricks so the whole of Africa was happy they did not win the AFCON.

Also, I am tired of Moroccans acting like they did Africa a favour by hosting the AFCON as if the infrastructure and sports facilities are not for the benefit of Morocco and Moroccans.

Morocco did not just host AFCON, they corrupted and poisoned football. Even the CAF awards is no longer based on meritorious performance. That's the reason a Moroccan coach of TP Mazembe in DR Congo who did not win the domestic league or anything in the continent will win the Women's coach of the year award ahead of Justin Madugu who won the WAFCON.

So I welcome and applaud their withdrawal from hosting the WAFCON. Make another country host am.

Brilliant breakdown of the Osimhen 200 Goals Count. All accurate. And the overall appearance count is indeed 335. Well done on noting the NT caps is 51 and not 52 (Nullified Togo game in 2017).

But there is just one thing and it is the Assists count of Osimhen. Now, remember I mentioned to you that I did a clean resweep of Osimhen's stats after that Owngoal assist recheck.
So, I found that 10 of the 51 assists are "penalties won" and not actual Opta-standard assists. So the question is, should we really count the "pens won" as assists too?

As for the NT Goals record held by Yekini, it easily falls this year. No escape! Osimhen delivered 9 goals across 10 NT caps in the 2025 Calendar year.
In 2026, he is already on 3 goals from 3 NT games. I expect the run to continue with games to come in friendlies/Playoffs (March/June) and the Afcon 2027 Qualifiers in September, October and November starting from Sept 21. With possibilities for more games in June/July window depending on if we get into the march playoffs, it only gives more room for the record to be shattered beyond recognition. Lol

Bia, wait oo... Marseille are signing 2 Midfielders so it is only right to assess his gametime chances. Abdelli is that Algerian midfielder that featured at the Afcon. He is moving from Angers. 'Seems De Zerbi wants to shake things up but they still have enough midfielders (Feb 3 will give a better picture).

Nnadi and Abdelli join Hojbjerg, Timber, Kondogbia, Vermereen (loan), Gomes (loan), & Matt O' Rily (loan).

Marseille's midfield looks stacked but Gomes and Matt are leaving this winter window from reports I see. Gomes to Wolves while Matt returns to Brighton. Both confirmed.

Also, Kondogbia does not seem rated by De Zerbi & he had a physical altercation in training yesterday with Arthur Vermereen. Not that liked by some marseille fans as well.

So yeah, Nnadi's gametime chances should be good, I hope.

Fun Fact: Ademola Lookman is ATM's 2nd Naija lad

Ademola Lookman will be the 2nd Naija player to play for Atletico Madrid in History but the first to play for them in La Liga.

The First 🇳🇬 ATM baller was Abass Muyiwa Lawal who played for ATM in La Liga 2 in the 2000/2001 season. He also featured in some copa del rey games in same season.

Between 1997/98 season and 98/99 season, he played for Atletico B in La Liga 2 (Spanish Segunda).

He went on to eventually play in La Liga but for Albacete in 2003/04 and 2004/05 making few appearances.

So while Lawal never played for ATM in La Liga, Ademola would be the first Nigerian baller to do so.
