If I am to be honest, I dislike Nigerians. Always a victim mindset, no accountability, no responsibility in all spheres and sectors of life. Just bragging.

Tyla is inarguably the best vocalist and performer in the entertainment scene in Africa right now; she deserves the award. Our entertainers sing rubbish and must simply do better if they are interested in such awards.

How did SA cancel Tyla for her blackness when she's coloured? We have an entire coloured community in almost all provinces here in SA.
If you didn't follow the story then, then your questions are irrelevant.

Those who made attempt of cancelling Tyla in USA was cancelled instead, and the story died down

This is not about victim mentality. After Water by Tyla, has any of her songs gone globally since? Which criteria do they use to give her the award?

Is she singing about humanity? Political activism or what?

Awards aren’t Always a Pure Measure of Talent They’re Networked, Political, And strategic.

Wizkid, Burna, Davido They All Put in Work For years.
Yes, Collaborations And influence Help, But That Doesn’t Erase Their Grind or impact

Tyla has some good songs, her recent song CHANEL is booming on social media especially Tiktok, though am not a fan of her but she's doing good for herself.

Everyone used English in their tracks so it’s not about being western. Her song was top in every metric you want to use to judge.

Do Burna and Kidjo sound western when they won it?

Did Bad Bunny sound western to win it?

Y’all should stop giving flimsy excuses. If something is better, say it out. No way Tyla wouldn’t have won in that category with tracks she was up against. Absolutely no way.

The Grammy politics aside, Tyla is a better singer than David.

Fame aside, you guys really comparing Tyla with David?

Just like saying Wizkid sings better than Beyonce. Or saying Odumodu Black is a better rapper than Blaq. Is Odumodu a rapper sef? If you say Waje sings better than Tyla, I won't argue. Or Sia sings better than Beyonce and Rihanna together..but Davido? Please.

I mean, the Nigerian support thingy aside, which of David's song could stand shoulder to shoulder with Chanel?

Here's what Gemini had to say:

Artistry and Musical Style
Tyla: Her sound is a fusion of Amapiano and contemporary Pop/R&B. She is often praised for her sleek, atmospheric production and cohesive sonic branding. Her "better" quality lies in her modern, highly polished "Pop-star" package.

Davido: He is the master of high-energy Afrobeats. His strength is in his ability to create club anthems and wedding hits. Davido’s artistry is defined by longevity and his ability to evolve with the Nigerian sound for over a decade.

Lyrics and Instruments
Lyrics: Davido’s lyrics are often celebratory, lifestyle-focused, and repetitive—designed for the dancefloor. Tyla’s lyrics tend to be more sensual and straightforward Pop. Neither is traditionally considered a "lyricist" in a poetic sense, but Davido has a deeper catalog of narrative-driven songs (e.g., Assurance).

Instrumental: Tyla’s music heavily utilizes the Log drum (the heartbeat of Amapiano), giving it a distinct, trendy feel. Davido’s music uses a broader range of highlife-inspired percussion and live horns, reflecting a more traditional Afrobeats foundation.

Fame and International Appeal
International Appeal: As of 2026, Tyla holds a slight edge in recent "Global Pop" momentum. She is a two-time Grammy winner in the Best African Music Performance category, winning in both 2024 (for Water) and 2026 (for Push 2 Start).

Fame: Davido has more massive overall statistics and historical weight. With over 3.5 billion Spotify streams and a decade of sold-out arenas globally, his "OG" status is undeniable. However, Tyla has managed to top international Pop charts (like the Billboard Hot 100) more rapidly than Davido’s solo work.

Meaningless and "Nonsensical" Lyrics
Both artists have faced lighthearted criticism for lyrics that prioritize "vibes" and phonetics over literal meaning:

Davido: His 2017 hit "If" includes the line "30 billion for the account," which, while iconic, was often joked about as being unrealistic at the time. He also uses playful onomatopoeia like "Gararara" and "Shakara owe," which are rhythmic fillers rather than dictionary words. His song "Kante" (2023) has also been cited for its "vibe-over-vocab" approach.

Tyla: Critics often point to her viral hit "Water" and the 2026 Grammy-winning "Push 2 Start." These songs focus heavily on repetitive hooks and "Amapiano ad-libs" that serve as rhythmic instruments rather than deep lyrical messages. In many Amapiano tracks, the lyrics are secondary to the "groove" of the log drum.

Don't also forget most Nigerian artiste farm streams cos they feel it measures popularity that's why you can sing nonsense without consequences. For example, the song Davido sang about Gehgeh is purely meaningless.

David gives hit with more Nigerian appeal than the international community unlike Tyla. And Tyla is an industry doll to the Grammy founders too.

Make una talk true too, na ebenzina ebenzina nzogbu nzogbu una want make e use win the Grammy? Or na Omah Lay part where he uses sonorous tunes that's safer not understood to speak disjointed words finding rhymes? At least, when Tyla uses jargon, you understand the meaning...just like you understood "make me water" means "make me wet." Wetin "when I look into her eyes all I see is her waist" mean biko?

David is the inverted Odumodu Black.

Tell me any of David's song that can beat Water by Tyla..let's not Push to Start the latest Chanel.

If not for Colonial Inferiority.
What could be making African artist chase Grammy.

Grammy was initially created for American artists. It was later they started including people of other Continents.

If I was as successful as an artist like Davido, Burna or Wiz. I won't take Grammy serious. In fact, I won't attend Grammy. The day they are ready to give me their trumpet award na for house I go dey watch dem. If dey like they can ship it to me, if not they can keep it.

Did you ever hear FELA complain he was not nominated or given Grammy. Was Grammy not existing when he was alive. Was he ever nominated or given the award? Why the Posthumous nonsense.

Until African artists let these American artists know they are not as important as they think they are. You think Fela go dey chase Grammy Upandan. I never see where he attended Grammy sef.
That is called CLASS

Oh! So I must now read and comprehend after you made an irrelevant comment about Tyla being "indirectly cancelled" in South Africa? Like where did you get this information from? Who was your source?

I guess the same Tyla whom the entire South Africa came in her defence against the black Americans was once indeed "indirectly cancelled" by the same people of South Africa who defended her identity, you're very funny... 🤣🤣🤣🤣
