Am I Making The Right Decision? by ComeComing(op): 7:14pm On Feb 04
My uncle got me admission (evening program) in a polytechnic but i had a change of mind after reading on how the Nigerian system discriminates against OND & HND holders.

I told my mum and she has given me money to go buy jamb form .. that she'll train me in the university. (This was our plan last year before my uncle came with his poly offer)

The issue now is that my uncle has already sent me the admission and acceptance fee of 45k and it's sitting in my account. I want to refund him now.

How do i tell him I'm no longer interested that i want to go to university?

And most importantly, I hope I'm making the right decision?

You're making the right decision but know that your Uncle may never support you again because you took his poly offer for granted because you did not sweat over it. It's a human nature thing sha. People don't value what comes too easily. If you had spent like 3 years looking for admission, then you suffered by yourself to gain this poly offer, you would have valued it more. Whatever decision you take sha, your Uncle won't be happy with it cos apart from the money he sent you, he has spent other monies you're not aware of.... Just do the poly.... That's my advice

Hope your mum can train you 2ru the university without stressing out along the way?

That being said, if I were you, I will follow my Uncle's advice while I use the leisure time to learn skills I'm passionate about.

But you can't be me and I can't force you to go with thy uncle. But no matter whose option you follow, don't take the bolded with a pinch of salt.

If you like, take the bolded for granted, na you Sabi.

Guy I understand your point but i can't toy with my future.

After reading a thread about HND discrimination here on nairaland, my opinion changed for the better. The only money he spent is 15k form for evening program.

Nothing like if i had suffered, some years ago wen i was admitted in the university, he refused to sponsor me and asked me to drop and enter poly.

And for your info, them no dey suffer to get admission for poly.. that's why they're over 10k students in poly nekede.

And as for university admission, I have a lecturer on ground there, she gave me the last admission so I'll be meeting her for admission again. Nigeria na by long leg.

I hope you understand sha.

Yes. My mum can comfortably train me without flinching.. she's a landlady. She even promised to give me 200k next month for lodge payment.

Attend the polytechnic for now, and rewrite ur Jamb exam, study hard so you can gain university admission....... If u fail to gain the University admission due to poor performance, you continue with your OND, and apply for direct entry into the University with your OND result.

Thank me later

Your uncle does not mean well for you, for him to ask you to drop out of university and later get you poly admission.

Follow your mother advice, make sure you learn a skill why schooling.

God is your strength.

Never be rude returning the money, show appreciation and respect.

So why did you drop out from university before...?

Why is your mom promising to give you 200k when you haven't gotten admission to university yet. And why is your uncle bent or insisting on you going to poly? Poly isn't also cheap or the difference with university isn't that wide na.

Are you the one who created a thread about going to Ghana to do yahoo?
Re: Am I Making The Right Decision? by Mcslize: 11:27am On Feb 06
Go for your ND. If you do perform well, you can secure direct entry to the Uni with it.

That was what I did in 2011. I forfeited 3 admissions to the university because I was hell bent on studying Medicine and surgery. My mentality then was if it is not medicine then nothing. They gave me Animal and environmental Biology twice, 2011 and 2013.

I went and applied for admission in one of the health institutions, I was offered 2 courses due to my excellent performance, and I have to choose one myself. Banged distinction in my national diploma, applied for direct entry in one of the federal universities and got it to study one of the Engineering courses as my ND is also an engineering course, and as I later lost my interest in medicine. I was number 7 on the list. They only admitted 22 students.

That same year 2014, I also wrote jamb and post UTME and got Medical laboratory Technology. But I choose the direct entry instead and started from 200 level.

In my time, I gained so many admissions that I forfeited as stated above.

We've walked that same path and I will advise you to take the offer from your uncle. You can use the ND to secure direct entry later to the university. Just make sure it is a course that is related to something you want to study in the university so that when the time comes, you can easily use it to secure direct entry to the university and start from 200 level.
Re: Am I Making The Right Decision? by Omoyor(m): 4:58pm On Feb 06
Take the offer and write your jamb in peace. When you gain admission, switch to the university.
NB: make sure the course you are going to choose has a straight path. Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Petrochemical Engineering, Computer Engineering, CyberSecurity, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. Medical Sciences,

Bros anything other than the above courses, you are just going there to make up the population of graduates with no impact
