talk2tonie:They now deduct during interest payment! |
| Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by Chikebrain: 9:55am On Feb 03 |
yungestmoney:No, they deduct when interest is paid back |
| Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by enque(f): 9:56am On Feb 03 |
I think it's easier for them to deduct upon initiating the transaction, as against waiting till maturity. WHT for all the bills and fixed investments I did in january were taken from the interest. Foodempire: |

GMs:If you want a shorter holding period of TBills, i.e., 2 months, the secondary market is the way to go. In the primary auction, the shortest available tenor is 91 days (3 months), so you’re locked in for that period unless you sell before maturity. I will suggest that you do MMF, which is not tenor-based. You can enter and exit at any time, which makes MMF very flexible. The only real consideration is the early-exit penalty: Exit within 30 days, lose 20% of accrued interest Stay beyond 30 days (e.g., 2 months), no penalty, nothing to lose. Click the second link in my signature to open MMF account with Norrenberger Asset management. |

GMs:Request secondary market rate from your bank or investment house |
| Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by Odunharry(m): 7:45pm On Feb 04 |
talk2tonie:I think it should be when interst in paid. If it's paid upfront, they deduct 10%, if it's at maturity, they collect the WHT at maturity |

enque:Wow. Why the sharp decline in 365 rate? Many bank's bids for that 365 days will likely fail. |

Grupo:I can sight massive over subscription. Too much money chasing few goods, price of goods must go up. |
| Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by Stockhunter: 10:04am On Feb 05 |
But in this case, price of goods which is interest/discount rate will do the opposite which is go down. RayRay06677: |

I invested in TB last year, October 3, 2025 and was paid my interest same day after some tax were deducted as well. Today, February 5, 2026, GTB paid me back my invested capital and deducted WHT of 65,000 naira from my capital (principal). WHT policy of firs took effect from October 28, 2025 and how come an investment that was done before October 28, 2025 will now be affected by the new WHT policy of firs that took effect from October 28, 25. It is like saying all my past transactions above 10,000 should be taxed with new stamp duty tax of 50 naira per transaction under the new tax law of Tinubu regime. This action of GTB is illegal and criminal. Any TB that was done before the commencement of firs new WHT policy should be clearly exempted from WHT. Every y affected person should please keep reporting this illegal, fraudulent and criminal act of GTB to www.reportgov.ng helpdesk@nrs.gov.ng www.nrs.gov.ng/page/withholding-tax |

I'm trying to dematerialize my Zenith share too. I've tried several brokers and the application keeps bouncing back over one issue or another. I'm just tired |

skydiver01:Omo see coupon and why is fee high 250k .Boss biko explain the closing at 18.43% 10year bond when it was reopened at 22.6% |
| Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by Odunharry(m): 8:23am On Feb 08 |
sammily:What rate did you give them. I know DMO will reduce rate slightly seeing the number of subscription far way above offer. People wants to lock in on rate early this year cos we might see decline in rate as the year goes |
| Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by skydiver01: 8:53am On Feb 08 |
Re: the fee. Na so I see am oooo. Wetin I for do? Personally, I don't think it is high. It is 0.41% of the subscription investment and I am ok with it. Anyway, re: the 18.43%. The bond was originally issued at 22.6% but was trading on the secondary market at the time of the re-opening auction at c17.5% yield. So the primary re-opening auction which closed at 18.43% was still marginally more attractive than the secondary market. 18.43% was the marginal rate that cleared the auction amount offered. It is not a 'new issue' auction but a re-opening auction of an existing bond whose rate was already set when originally issued and is trading on the secondary market. Hope the explanation helps ![]() Odunharry: |

Megiserv:I understand your plight but it seems you left here or stop snoozing around the investment for a while so you didn't get to read when people were complaining earlier. While it is bad for GTB not to have deducted WHT from your account because it was not in your contract (Stated in your proof of investment), it's good to understand that the WHT did not just start with the new tax law. It has been in existence but was given holiday for some years and the holiday expire earlier like 2-3 years ago, I am not sure again. Some other financial institutions started collecting WHT from me since 2023. It's banks that started collecting from last year. |
