How Do I Handle This Prepaid Meter Issue With My Neighbors? by Host78(op): 9:22pm On Feb 09
Hello guys

Please I'm having electricity problem with our new neighbour and I'm confused with what to do right now.

Here's the issue:

So we live in a compound where 3 rooms are connected to one prepaid.

So 3 of us donate to fund our prepaid meter.

A few months ago we were paying 4k and this usually last us for 2+ months. The reason I believe is that all we had to power is ceiling fans and charging of our devices (phones and laptops)

But ever since we got our new neighbor, the light bill has suddenly increased.

This month alone, we've recharged 8k+ individually and by my calculations, it'll cost each of us 12k+ for light to reach us for one month.

This is a significant jump from the 4k that will normally cover us for 2+ months.

I'm really not happy about this and don't know what to do right now.

I can't imagine paying 12k+ a month just to power my ceiling fans and laptop.

I have spoken with her and she told me she's using only fridge with the light, which I don't quite understand, how much our bill has jumped so significantly.

Please any suggestions on what to do will be welcome.

The fault is not from your new neighbour. They've upgraded your Band level.

You people can install sub meters. It's sold in the market. With that, everyone get to use exactly what they paid for.

If you can't load tokens individually it's not really helpful cos your consumption for this month might not tally with next month and so on. I hate sharing bills with people

You should all get this for each flat, get a good electrician to connect it for you all, everyone will pay for what is used.

You're right but he is already in a situation that needs a little tweak to get his doubts cleared. From his story, they are all paying so it is just to get that device and calculate what each person uses monthly..

Install sub meters as suggested. Pending that, you all should have a meeting or possibly inspect everyone apartment for clarity. Someone among you is using a powerful device, a hot plate or irons frequently.

I was waiting for someone to create a thread on this. I base in PH. Woji precisely. Ever since these people brought their new prepaid meter omo I am dying.

My over 1000 units in the old meter has not been refunded. I spend up to 7k daily on prepaid meter.

Someone should please help me. I have gone to their head office at Moscow road nothing happens. Spending over 7k daily on light is killing me.

I don't think the landlord forced them to stay in his house. Also getting prepaid meters can be quite hard.

One of them is likely using the electricity to cook

Another heavy consumption device will be a non-inverter freezer that is always on
