What was the reason for the PND?
Opay must have disclosed the reason to him him, either justifiable or not
Probably his account was used to commit fraud or a depositor reported his account due to business disagreement
You dare not freeze anyone's account without a court order.

We just too Moe-moe for this country, we no sabi law and law sef na for highest bidder else big companies can't go Scot free when they do something outside the law.

He has every right to demand to see the court order, if no court order then you can't keep ones account on PND

The bank did wrong if the petitioners side of the story is true. Why place a ban on ones account without a court order.
The way some people hastily conclude on things is not cool.
Who told you they need court order before restricting the account.
If the terms and conditions state measures or reasons to restrict account, and you go on to open an account with them , then no need for court order

A bank can put your account on PND without a court order, it only has limitations.
Even the court has ruled in favour of such.
The case here is that, it seems to be for a long period which the court do not support, and the bank had opportunity to get a court order Which they never did.
Putting an account on PND without a court order isn't illegal, it is keeping it without one that is illegal

my target this year na to collect 2m loan from opay and stop using the account..
Loan will be captured on your BVN. So where are you running to?

Anyways, OPAy customer service is non existence. They see so much money from the retail business yet pay their staff peanuts. One of the most terrible place to work is OPAy. Though they have good product offering

I don’t know why you replying the guy.
Everyone saying court order court order.

If the operator has it’s terms clearly stated that when you do so so so thing, you account will be restricted. Then you go ahead to open account with them. What’s the need for a court order before enacting their policy?

Post No Debit. But money can be paid in. Thieves. That 50m small. He should raise it to 100m, then out of court settlement will now be 70m. Imagine the emotional trauma.

Them placing the restriction is not the issue. Opay customer service is extremely poor, just pray you don’t have issue to resolve.
True my brother that's how they restricted my account just because a customer transfer 3,500 for me and he mistakenly wrote an erroneous transfer to them

It was hell when I went to their office at allen
I went there like 3times before it was opened

Na so them restricted my account sometimes without any court other. I just went to their office, tell them that so anyone can just come to u that he did erroneous transfer and u won't hear from ur customer first or notify him before u restricted his account? That's bad of them. Na so I left the money there ooooo, I just noticed that nobody teach them before them open am back. That's bad from opay.

what is the "so so thing"? The bank should have even contacted the customer immediately to explain the so so thing.

Make Opay go explain for Court! You don't need to explain to them. Person done die due to their action.

Make them explain to court say the money na fraud money!

You think the prosecutor would have gone to court if he was involved or the money is fraud related?
His lawyer would have spelt it out to him that it would implicate him the more.

Common senese surprise tell us say this guy case pure and not fraud related.

Opay just bought alaba market!

This one is all out to take advantage of the system in order to cash out a whopping ₦50m just like that!

Losing a loved one is always a painful thing in life, but the motive or desire to make such an humongous amount of money out of the situation says a lot about the character of the person involved.

We'll keep our fingers crossed and see what Opay will come up with in their defence and justification if any, for the action.
How can You interprete the situatjon like this
This is why thw society video is like this
No consequneces for bad actions
That is all this man is trying to ensure that they pay for their wickedness
If they pay 50 million now, they wont mess up next time
Thats the right way to think about this for a better society

If law suits like these dont happen frequently, service wont improve… providers just treat customers anyhow.. holding onto funds…
Commercial banks are even worse with their poor ATM and fund transfer service …. U will send or try to take money to another bank’’s ATM and issues will happen …. they will take ages to reconcile small error…

They will first use 3weeks to toss u here and there that the money is with the other bank, interswitch, or Nibbs..then use another 2 weeks to agree its their duty, then another one month to do reversal

SLA should be standard….go abroad..u can never hear anything like transfer error, or Cash retract, customers will slam u with law suit and chop free damages money….

They should pay more than that seff if they dont successfully bribe the jidge...Someone died naa

The cost attach to life and psychological pain is usually very high in saner countries, then they will add burial expense and other cost….. the guy should just gather his evidence well, and the hospital too must be ready to testify otherwise the case will crumble very fast

I can attest to this.
I had to threaten them to report to CBN before they did the needful on my case.
I have 2 Opay account, 1 is active while I rarely used the other.
I have an habit of checking all my inactive bank account once in a while to know their status. On this fateful day, I logged into the inactive Opay account, saw a deposit of 100k, but reduced to #99,850 due to bank commission #100 and stamp duty charges #50, with the account having a restriction. Checking for the sender details, it's an unknown sender, checked the reason for restriction, it's because the fund was flagged due to report from the sender.
I clicked of the reversal process, but I couldn't submit it because the available fund is now less than the amount received due to the charges. That's how the back and forth with customer support started, which lasted for about 2wks.
I was like, why would you placed an account on DND for 2months for erroneous transfer without reaching out to the account holder since he needs to grant an approval for reversal. Okay, I'm interested in refunding the fund, can you pls reverse it back, they said no, I have to pay the #150 shortage, I was like why do I have to bear responsibility for the sender error or company deduction. We dragged it continuously for days, then I had to accuse them of stealing customers fund and that's the way they must have been doing to other customers. I noted the name of the last support staff I spoke with, told her I was going to report to CBN officially, she called in her supervisor to attend to me, I noted her own name to and repeated the same line, immediately after the call, one of them sent #150 to my account and I successfully submitted the reversal request.
This process took me 2wks and few days.
You shouldn't have even accepted the N150 since it wasn't a reversal of the original deduction. A good financial system should only move value and should neither create nor destroy money(value). We need to insist on doing things the proper way.

Do they have the right to do such, that is the Koko.
Just because we get away with things in this country doesn't mean it's legal.

Re: Customer Sues Opay, Says Account Restriction Led To Father’s Death by Farmsolution: 4:01pm On Feb 12
OlujobaSamuel:
Bank has power to place your account on DND under certain circumstances under CBN rule, I don't know the extent of the power, but I know it's not infinite, as that of a court order. So while they are at it, they need to get a court order for the account to remain under the PND.
Also, if your account is having a kyc issue, the bank don't need a court order, they place it on PND.
You forgot to add that they won't also need to inform you why your account is PND after several attempts by you to know same and after several self inquiries. Oga all these doesn't add up, once it's not authorized it definitely becomes a subject of litigation. The CBN also has instruments to protect depositors and customers . So the powers of the banks cannot be definite and arbitrary..
