Fibromyalgia in a nutshell for people that don't understand it ...

1. My pain - My pain is not your pain. It is not caused by inflammation. Taking your arthritis medication will not help me. I can not work my pain out or shake it off. It is not even a pain that stays put. Today it is in my shoulder, but tomorrow it may be in my foot or gone. My pain is believed to be caused by improper signals sent to the brain, possibly due to sleep disorders. It is not well understood, but it is real.

2. My fatigue - I am not merely tired. I am often in a severe state of exhaustion. I may want to participate in physical activities, but I can't. Please do not take this personally. If you saw me shopping yesterday, but I can't help you with house/garden work today, it isn't because I don't want to. I am, most likely, paying the price for stressing my muscles beyond their capability.

3. My forgetfulness - Those of us who suffer from it call it fibrofog. I may not remember your name, but I do remember you. I may not remember what I promised to do for you, even though you told me just seconds ago. My problem has nothing to do with my age but may be related to sleep deprivation. I do not have a selective memory. On some days, I just don't have any short-term memory at all.

4. My clumsiness - If I step on your toes or run into you five times in a crowd, I am not purposely targeting you. I do not have the muscle control for that. If you are behind me on the stairs, please be patient. These days, I take life and stairwells one step at a time.

5. My sensitivities - I just can't stand it! "It" could be any number of things: bright sunlight, loud or high-pitched noises, odors. FMS has been called the "aggravating everything disorder." So don't make me open the curtains or listen to your child scream. I really can't stand it.

6. My intolerance - I can't stand heat, either. Or humidity. If I am a man, I sweat...profusely. If I am a lady, I perspire. Both are equally embarrassing, so please don't feel compelled to point this shortcoming out to me. I know. And don't be surprised if I shake uncontrollably when it's cold. I don't tolerate cold, either. My internal thermostat is broken, and nobody knows how to fix it.

7. My depression - Yes, there are days when I would rather stay in bed or in the house. Severe, unrelenting pain can cause depression. Your sincere concern and understanding can pull me back from the brink. Your snide remarks can tip me over the edge.

8. My stress - My body does not handle stress well. If I have to give up my job, work part time, or handle my responsibilities from home, I'm not lazy. Everyday stresses make my symptoms worse and can incapacitate me completely.

9. My weight - I may be fat or I may be skinny. Either way, it is not by choice. My body is not your body. My appestat is broken, and nobody can tell me how to fix it.

10. My good days - If you see me smiling and functioning normally, don't assume I am well. I suffer from a chronic pain and fatigue illness with no cure. I can have my good days or weeks or even months. In fact, the good days are what keep me going.

11. My uniqueness - Even those who suffer from FMS are not alike. That means I may not have all of the problems mentioned above. I do have pain above and below the waist and on both sides of my body which has lasted for a very long time. I may have migraines or hip pain or shoulder pain or knee pain, but I do not have exactly the same pain as anyone else.

you're right, had the exact problem on 2001, was seriously down with acute malaria and enteric fever, went to blood culture and was diagnosed with septicaemia. I had all the OP symptoms but mine was more severe than his. I suffered all his symptoms including dizziness and severe fatigue. I took all the antibiotics in the world till one man from ebonyi state gave me one leave I took with boil garri and that was the end. till today I never had the symptoms again.

Thank you very much. I had thought of Occipital Neuralgia as some of the symptoms relate to it. I infact had to stop with the amitriptyline after reading it up because I know how bad it can be. I had visited 4 different hospitals before now and they are supposed good hospitals. They all took my vitals.

I eventually had a video session with my Indian Neurologist, some of my blood samples was taken to Indian and they are all fine. Only God knows how much I have spent all these while.

I will be doing an MRI next week. Hopefully he will be making a definite diagnosis though he mentioned cervical spondylosis when we were talking.

Thanks bro. I really appreciate.
can you link me up with india doctors? I have being suffering from headache, fatigue and joint pains

post=82183699]Sadly you didnt provide your age. However with the numerous doctors you have seen I would assume your vitals were taken and High blood pressure was ruled out. I am a bit surprised with the quick fix prescription of Amitriptyline. It's quite strange you should be prescribed this. This is a psychiatric medication for mental and mood problems and basically a tricyclic antidepressant. The costs outweigh the benefits. There should be better treatment options for something this minor. These medications are highly addictive and extremely hard to get off from once addicted to.

I have noticed a rush to prescribe these and it's like, Xanax, by Nigerian doctors. This is extremely dangerous

I think you have occipital neuralgia which is quite different from migraine and this contributes massively to your insomnia. The inflammation of the occipital nerves causes poor sleep. Since I do not have your medical history, I would suggest you return to your doctor and ask him or her to investigate a possible case of occipital neuralgia for you and recommend appropriate treatment that suits you

I wish you speedy recovery[/quote]

Good evening good people. I am hoping I will get some help here.
Pls this will be a bit a long. I beg you to read. So you can understand better.

My problem started last year April (2018). I was diagnosed with typhoid and malaria. I was started on a course of treatment that involves anti malaria and an antibiotics (azithromycin). I noticed the quality of my sleep was dropping after taking the antibiotic for 2 days. My instincts was that it was the medicine. I eventually stopped taking it but by then my sleep have become badly affected. I woke up a Sunday morning after taking some drinks the previous night at a wedding with one severe type of headache ( I started the antibiotics on Thursday, took on Friday and missed it that Saturday) I continued that Sunday morning. So I eventually stopped all medicine and consulted a doctor friend. By then I had gone two nights with little or no sleep. He prescribed some drugs that was meant to induce sleep and even increased the dosage yet I still couldn't sleep.

Meanwhile before then, I am someone who could be called a sleeper. I can sleep at anytime without stress. I even take naps here and there in my office. So it was strange.

I eventually went to some hospitals and their treatment involved giving me sleep medicines and sometimes it could help me get very little amount of sleep and then it will make me feel very groggy and heavily fatigued. By this time a weird sensation have developed in the left side of my back head (this pain doesn't come and go... It is permanent). After spending some huge amounts I wasn't getting relief until I went to a neurologist. He first suspended all the sleep medications and started giving me amitriptyline 5mg every night ( after few days I started feeling better and had some deep sleep) but still the problem wasn't gone ( head pain and stiff neck).

I was paying about 30k monthly at the neurologists. It wasn't sustainable and I eventually stopped and decided to take my fate in my own hands. I eventually stopped taking any medication for sleep last November.

Between then and now, I have had some good nights where I slept very deeply and nights when I struggled. I have gone like 2 weeks without sleep issues. But still the pain in the back of the head and neck still persist.

Just yesterday I went to consult another gp and his diagnosis was that it was the poor sleep that is causing the pain in the head and neck. But I still find it difficult to believe. I will be having a video session with an Indian neurologist tommorow and I hope he will make a different diagnosis.

My coming here is to know if anyone have had an experience with my case and I would like to know how they solved their problem.

I will appreciate any suggestion that will be of help.

Thank you.
Good afternoon.. Please how did you later sort it?
