Sounds like ur solutions is going to be with a psychiatrist, how anxious are u, do u get any other symptoms , sweaty, heat flushes? You should have stayed on the amitryptyline. Don't worry about getting the zzzzs for now just try and stay calm and stress less. I don't for see anything wrong with ur blood as it is.

I actually don't feel anxious. It was initially that I was very worried. But as time progresses, I am more calm. I am not sweaty either.

had gentamycin injection recently and immediately started having issues with sleep.
I must say though that worrying about it also complicates the sleeplessness.
Try sleeping in the morning after waking up to relieve urself of the headache.
Then get horlicks someone mentioned above to help sleep at nite.
By the way has ur bp been normal?

quite normal. Tnx though.

My Brother, I think its just high blood pressure causing your stiff neck and headaches.

I'm surprised they did not see this straight up.

Go to the hospital again and ask the doctor for advise on a 30-day combined dose of Amplodipine and Hydrex.

And most importantly, kill that sedentary lifestyle and get a regular dose of heart-pumping exercise!

Tnx

Sadly you didnt provide your age. However with the numerous doctors you have seen I would assume your vitals were taken and High blood pressure was ruled out. I am a bit surprised with the quick fix prescription of Amitriptyline. It's quite strange you should be prescribed this. This is a psychiatric medication for mental and mood problems and basically a tricyclic antidepressant. The costs outweigh the benefits. There should be better treatment options for something this minor. These medications are highly addictive and extremely hard to get off from once addicted to.

I have noticed a rush to prescribe these and it's like, Xanax, by Nigerian doctors. This is extremely dangerous

I think you have occipital neuralgia which is quite different from migraine and this contributes massively to your insomnia. The inflammation of the occipital nerves causes poor sleep. Since I do not have your medical history, I would suggest you return to your doctor and ask him or her to investigate a possible case of occipital neuralgia for you and recommend appropriate treatment that suits you

I wish you speedy recovery

Thank you very much. I had thought of Occipital Neuralgia as some of the symptoms relate to it. I infact had to stop with the amitriptyline after reading it up because I know how bad it can be. I had visited 4 different hospitals before now and they are supposed good hospitals. They all took my vitals.

I eventually had a video session with my Indian Neurologist, some of my blood samples was taken to Indian and they are all fine. Only God knows how much I have spent all these while.

I will be doing an MRI next week. Hopefully he will be making a definite diagnosis though he mentioned cervical spondylosis when we were talking.

Thanks bro. I really appreciate.

I can be in the best position to further explain to others what you passing because i went through the same circle 2017 -2014 when God fully healed me, mine started just as yours, i had malaria and typhoid, went to the hospital for treatment along the lane discovered i could no longer sleep................ stayed in a range of complete one month without dozing off, used everything i can name, visited all kinds of specialist, along the lane, i started thinking suicidal. Yes, the reason why you are having all those persistent pains is as a result of lack of sleep.... Sleep on it self is a healing agent so when you dont sleep, how will healing takes place. In all my dear, i layed everything at the feet of Jesus asked him to deal with me which ever way He pleases. I went religious after exhausting every available medical solution to that. Good evening good people. I am hoping I will get some help here.
Pls this will be a bit a long. I beg you to read. So you can understand better.

My problem started last year April (2018). I was diagnosed with typhoid and malaria. I was started on a course of treatment that involves anti malaria and an antibiotics (azithromycin). I noticed the quality of my sleep was dropping after taking the antibiotic for 2 days. My instincts was that it was the medicine. I eventually stopped taking it but by then my sleep have become badly affected. I woke up a Sunday morning after taking some drinks the previous night at a wedding with one severe type of headache ( I started the antibiotics on Thursday, took on Friday and missed it that Saturday) I continued that Sunday morning. So I eventually stopped all medicine and consulted a doctor friend. By then I had gone two nights with little or no sleep. He prescribed some drugs that was meant to induce sleep and even increased the dosage yet I still couldn't sleep.

Meanwhile before then, I am someone who could be called a sleeper. I can sleep at anytime without stress. I even take naps here and there in my office. So it was strange.

I eventually went to some hospitals and their treatment involved giving me sleep medicines and sometimes it could help me get very little amount of sleep and then it will make me feel very groggy and heavily fatigued. By this time a weird sensation have developed in the left side of my back head (this pain doesn't come and go... It is permanent). After spending some huge amounts I wasn't getting relief until I went to a neurologist. He first suspended all the sleep medications and started giving me amitriptyline 5mg every night ( after few days I started feeling better and had some deep sleep) but still the problem wasn't gone ( head pain and stiff neck).

I was paying about 30k monthly at the neurologists. It wasn't sustainable and I eventually stopped and decided to take my fate in my own hands. I eventually stopped taking any medication for sleep last November.

Between then and now, I have had some good nights where I slept very deeply and nights when I struggled. I have gone like 2 weeks without sleep issues. But still the pain in the back of the head and neck still persist.

Just yesterday I went to consult another gp and his diagnosis was that it was the poor sleep that is causing the pain in the head and neck. But I still find it difficult to believe. I will be having a video session with an Indian neurologist tommorow and I hope he will make a different diagnosis.

My coming here is to know if anyone have had an experience with my case and I would like to know how they solved their problem.

I will appreciate any suggestion that will be of help.

Thank you.
any antibiotic with azithromycin is a killer.

Check your pillow. Is it too flat or too bulky. I had this problem a while back. The strain in the neck causes the headaches mostly on the side of the head where the neck aches most. The inability to find a comfortable position that does not cause neck pain could be causing the sleepless restless night.

Thnk God. Its hard to detect such septicemia bcoz it can hav symtom of many disease, most pple die of it witout knowing it, bcoz this days bacteria, fungi, parasites are getting resistant to most antibiotics, and if not the right antibiotic is taken, even after treatment the sickness will re-occur before you know it spreads to all over the body nd can lead to life threatnin illness or even death. I suggest that doctrs to do culture nd blood test first b4 putting patients on random antibiotic.
some doctors are always quick to prescribe antibiotics as a cure while some will like to know the root of the ailments. the latter are the good doctors dedicated to their work.

I t is axiety and this problem is from themind..i suffered from this also since last year..I visited hospital under two months that a file was filled...I started timing the doctors as the old ones wont give me any more drug and i knew i could not sleep..under 10 minutes i am back up sweating.I think a lo and Nigeria problem is one of my own concern...recently i reduced alcohol to the minimum and stopped smoking...i drink water a lot and visited a psychiatrist in Lagos with my younger sister who he told i must leave anything hustle or stress for now and take time to rest, walk around, dont think too much or this would get complicated.

Truly now,i get good sleep,i eat well..before can hardly finish a superpack noddle, neck and back of the head pain is gone, the only time the neck pain comes is after sitting up to work on the laptop and mistakenly hang my neck again for some hours then i feel it coming again and i relax...

Stop thinking too much...my sis told me everything is going to be fine.i should not stress much and live everyday as it comes but just pushing and hoping because nigeria don do me strong thing..i always have reason to fear.what wil happen tomorrow, how will i raise this funds,i will suffer, how am i going to survive, those are the thoughts going through my mind day and night and its beeen there for yers now unknowingly,i am damaging my health...just calm down, drink loads of water, listen to music, stop the medicine...to tell you,i even did hiv text like 5 times every 3 month, blood sugar, fasting blood suger, blood presssure...i get tingling sensation in my feet, sometimes,my legs will just go cold, feet go numb..i get worried...at a point i thought this was the end and maybe someone had casted a spell on me..i was depressed and started hallucinating also..hearing voices at the same time..rubbish thoughts including suicide.thoughts of my younger sister would make me swear for devil again that i will pull through this...not so good...i will enter the shower about 10 times before morning as once i shower,i can manage to get about 10 mins max before something which i dont know wakes me up again.i dont wsh this for anybody i swear.no drugs can cure it..its a phycological thing..depression causes it...you start thinking of different kinds of sicknesses..if mosquito should bite you and you stat scratching it,wahala,if you cough, problem,if you use your hand to sratch the wall and fails to heal quickly, you think is it diabetes...MIND.

i dont feel that way again and somehow someway,i take life simple, hustle for money when i know my energy level is high, walk distance to the bar to watch football,no junk food, less beer, less fuzzy drinks like coke and pepse and dem likes..reduced rice and indomie.have sex two or three times a week...

Another factor is when account balance is going very very low and money slow t enter and some deadlines are ringing tick tock tick tock...it causes sleepless night..ordinary awoof 3 million alert..happy how arrive and sickness will tear race.

I suffered something similar. Make time to read this.

Mine started when I got a job as the principal admin officer at a school, the pay was 50k, was in my late 20s i was strong and energetic, the job altered my wonderful life pattern such that I woke up by 4am worked or oversee things were done appropriately till 10pm.

I usually slept around 11pm-12am I barely slept for 5 hours, after about a year, I had the money but my health was fast depreciating, I was lean, weak, having constant headache at one side of the head, later got to know its called migraine.

I left the job after about two years but discovered my body had adapted to that pattern, by 4am I'm awake to nothing and would not be able to sleep till day break, sleep will never come if its not 12am, naturally I will feel sleepy by 11:30-12am...

It affected me so much I had to constantly rely on sleeping drugs, such that once my body became immune to this one I went for a stronger sleeping pill to sleep barely 5hrs.

I discovered constant light, TVs, phones and gadgets weren't helping so I took a very drastic step, I stop using phone after 7pm , disconnected my light from source... Step down my job and for 3 month all I did was eat good food, with enough fruit, go out, play a lot, do plenty exercise and by 8pm no light, no gadgets I was ready to sleep.

By 10pm I was asleep and will not wake till 6am or 7am, do plenty exercise in the morning, go out to my office, leave at my own time, play ball in the evening 3 times a week, have fun with friends, watch football matches then go home ready to sleep, after about 3 months, the migraine was gone, constant back pain gone and I was oversleeping, now I want to resume work back fully but I do oversleep waking up by 8-9am but its my office, I walk in and walk out anytime. I'm 32. It worked for me, you can try if you have what can sustain you for the period in review.

You can watch out for the following,
1. If you are addicted to phones or gadgets such as TVs, laptop etc
You will never sleep properly.
2. Your job timing, how it affects your sleeping pattern
If your job entails you wake up by 4am and sleep by 11pm watch it
3. How often to you do exercise.
You need it seriously
4. Stop using drugs, go for fruits, relax well
God help you.

Stop lying.
Sleeplessness does not make the head swell up.

Nobody is attacking anybody.

Nigeria don't have specialists. Most of the drs in Nigeria are general drs. Those that will develop further go into surgery, paediatric or gyneocology cos that is what sell in Nigeria.
Had ur brother met the right Dr, his ailment will be diagnosed and treated. Instead of spending such amount in naija hospital, he should have gone to India.
As for the spiritual stuff, I'm not interested in that and don't believe such.
I know how the our pastors perform the so called miracles so don't even go there.
Poverty has made lots of Nigerians to go to church when u are sick.
B4, even malaria is spiritual. How about now?
Build good hospitals and equip them to world standard with good specialists and people are working and making money with most basic amenities provided, nobody will remember church and healing.
U see people that go to church do that cos they love the teachings of Jesus Christ and want to be his disciples. Not these fake things I see people display everyday. The pastors are aware of what is happening so are reaping to the maximum.

Poverty is a disease.

Re: Help Needed: Sleeplessness, Persistent Pain In The Head And Neck by AnanseK(m): 5:30am On Sep 14, 2019
It was plausible that you had malaria but you almost certainly never had typhoid. Doctors in Nigeria diagnose typhoid and malaria always and together for any complaints, small or big. They back it up with the spurious agglutin test called Vidal test which I believe has become a dangerous tool that is misused by Nigerian Healthcare providers. The Nigerian patients themselves are not helping. If you tell them that they don’t have typhoid, they will move on to another Dr. ( most probably a quack) who will reinforce their mind-programming about this actually non existent “typhoid.”

The second point is that you had and unnecessary antibiotics treatment and for too long and possibly at high dose. ( you didn’t tell us the dose ,the frequency and the total number of days you had taken azithromycin).

The third point is that you and your care givers went on chasing shadows trying to treat side effects and ill defined symptoms going unnecessarily into neurology and psychiatry.

Hello all, op I have some of your symptoms but not all.

I don't have a stiff neck and I sleep well but I have this headache that has stuck in my head since January this year.
I have been treated malaria in hospital severally but the headache continues.
High blood pressure and typhoid were ruled in the hospital so I am confused.
Immediately I wake up the headache continues till I fall asleep again.

Please I'm tired of going to hospital without a solution.

Thanks for your response. I took 500MG 2 x 2 of the antibiotic for 5 days and eventually stopped after I saw the damage it was doing to me.

I quite agree with your first line. most hospitals are killing us.

Meanwhile, I am looking for solution hence my consulting a neurologist. I will appreciate if you have a solution. Tnx
