Starlinks Failed X (Twitter) Today, Yet, Peter Obi And Co Want INEC To Use It For The 2027 Elections! Today, X, formerly Twitter, experienced a global outage that lasted for hours. This is a site that has the most advanced servers and is linked to Starlink (please fact-check me), which is used to facilitate its operations. Yet it still went down today, and you and I couldn't access it. And you are now saying that the Nigerian Senate should pass laws compelling the Independent National Electoral Commission to provide real-time election results? Let us not be emotional in this country. Some politicians, including a particular Senator, as well as activists, even said Nigeria should invite Starlink to help INEC provide real-time election results. First of all, Starlink is a private company. As a country, it would be most irresponsible to allow a private firm to breach the privacy and personal data of your citizens, including their photos, fingerprints, and National Identification Numbers. But beyond that, X relies on Starlink. And Starlink did not save them from today's outage. So, I support Electronic Transmission of Results, and it must be in the Electoral Act. But I do not endorse real-time electronic transmission of results. No country does that. Including Brazil and Estonia, which some misguided people cite. In those countries, results are sent electronically only AFTER polls have closed, which is what we want in Nigeria. Even America, the home country of Starlink, does not have real-time transmission of results—ditto for the United Kingdom, France and Germany. It is only people like the self-confessed accessories to hackers, like Nasir el-Rufa'i, who want INEC to go that route. And of course, we now know why! FB went down sometime last year due to network failure. Even the normal Telcos occasionally have network failures or breakdown which are later rectified. So what fuse is Reno Omokri talking about. Reno is very useless. Were Facebook and twitter not in existence and operational long before starlink came up? What nonsense is he trying to say? Before starlink was internet downtime not being experienced? Do Nigerian banks use starlinks? Don't they still experience down time? Why is the APC scared of real time transmission of results?
