Bolt SA Confirms Slain Nigerian Driver Was Operating Illegally by RandDigital(op): 4:43am On Feb 18
Bolt South Africa has confirmed that the murdered e-hailing driver, Isaac Satlat, was not registered and illegally used a profile belonging to another.

The foreign national was killed by passengers in a shocking video caught on a dash cam.

Three suspects appeared in Pretoria Magistrates Court on Monday, 16 February, on charges of murder and hijacking. A fourth suspect has since been arrested.

In a statement posted on its social media platforms, Bolt South Africa offered its condolences to the family and loved ones of driver Isaac Satlalt.

The e-hailing company condemned the murder, stating it was working with police in the ongoing investigation.

Bolt revealed that Satlat – a 22-year-old Nigerian – was not a registered driver. It added that the late foreign national had illegally used the profile of another driver, a man identified as Wiseman Makobe.

In all likelihood, Setlat paid Makobe to use his profile in order to utilise the app as a driver – a practice that e-hailing companies strongly condemn.

It shared: “On the day of the incident, Mr. Makobe completed the required verification process, after which Mr. Satlat operated using that profile. This constitutes profile sharing. The profile has since been permanently hard-blocked and banned from operating on the platform.

It added: “Profile sharing is strictly prohibited on the Bolt platform. It undermines passenger trust, compromises safety, and violates our agreements with drivers”.

Bolt revealed it had implemented multiple safeguards to curb the practice, including mandatory identity verification, regular in-app selfie checks, device monitoring, and data-led risk detection systems. Drivers who contravene this rule can face immediate suspension and permanent bans.

WHO WAS ISAAC SATLAT?

Isaac Satlat was a 22-year-old Nigerian foreign national who lived and studied in South Africa.

According to accounts by family members, Satlat completed a qualification in automotive mechanical engineering and was set to graduate next month. He was on a study visa, which permits individuals to work for up to 20 hours per week.

In December, he was hired by the owner of the vehicle he drove to become a Bolt driver.

On Wednesday, 11 February, he was attacked by two individuals who requested a ride on the e-hailing app. Two other individuals in another car were involved in the coordinated attack.

Satlat’s body was found in Atteridgeville, a township located outside Pretoria. His family are hoping to raise funds via a BackaBuddy campaign to have his remains repatriated.

Those savages that murdered him all deserve capital punishment with no option of appeal.

embarassed It will never be well with Lamidi Ogunlere, if he had made the economy conducive this young man wouldn't have embarked on this dangerous journey to make ends meet in an evil nation called Sad Africa.

Similar miserable cretins from there killed Lucky Dube because they thought he was a Nigerian, spits.
Re: Bolt SA Confirms Slain Nigerian Driver Was Operating Illegally by Kastonkastroll(m): 4:56am On Feb 18
And so? Even if he was operating illegally does that give anybody any right to take his life? Here in Nigeria, do we go about killing other nationals doing illegal activities in Nigeria? South Africans should better change the way they treat their fellow Africans.

South Africa is not the only country that have illegal immigrants. Nigeria even have more illegal immigrants residing in Nigeria and doing business more than any African country, the only thing is we don't care much about all the illegal immigrants in the country because an average Nigeria is always after his own survival and doesn't care much about any illegal immigrant in the country.

If Nigeria should start treating all these illegal immigrants in the country bad, many people will be surprised about the huge number of them in the country.

Can this be compared to people slaughtered in Nigeria ? The funniest thing about us is that we are so quick to condemn other nations.
Last week alone, over 170 Nigerians were slaughtered and many kidnapped.
Nigerians kill nigeians more than others kill Nigerians.

They don't think. They only want chaos since they know there's no way to victory for them. That's why they are insisting on mandatory e transmission without option.

No one is justifying any murder here. A life was lost, and that is tragic.

Once the story gained attention, Bolt probably felt the need to clarify their position....especially since there were visa or regulatory issues involved. Companies don’t release such details randomly; they do it to protect themselves legally and reputationally.
Transparency, even when uncomfortable, is often a corporate self-protection move.
Bolt knows their responsibility to South African employment laws and they are clarifying their position here not justifying murder .

My people ,.do you see how fast the SA police apprehended the murder suspects ? If this happened in Nigeria , it will take months if not years to get the perpetrators....RIP to the victim

No one is justifying any murder here ,bolt as an employer has a responsibility to reveal the contract they had with this guy who was on a student visa. That's how things work in South Africa, you don't reveal other facts and hide others.

You are angry about something else not this particular issue. You need to heal from that. That's my sisterly advice. If you weren't you would have read this peace with less emotion. You were already angry when you came across this reveal.

Satlat wasn't on Bolt's books.

"It added that the late foreign national had illegally used the profile of another driver, a man identified as Wiseman Makobe."

"On the day of the incident, Mr. Makobe completed the required verification process, after which Mr. Satlat operated using that profile. This constitutes profile sharing."

"Profile sharing is strictly prohibited on the Bolt platform. It undermines passenger trust, compromises safety, and violates our agreements with drivers."
