Batman2412:By the way, always expect a dip when you fund an equity fund. 1. There are charges such as brokerage fees, SEC fees, stamp duty etc that has to be paid from your deposit so it will reduce what you see. 2. Funds have two prices. A buy and sell price. Imagine you enter GTbank to deposit buy USD but to be credited to your account. You will see a sell price (lets say 1450) and a buy price of 1430. The sell price is how much they will sell 1 unit to you. So you pay them 1 unit. But when they credit the 1 unit to gour account, they will show the naira equivalent at the price they will buy from you which is 1430. You still have 1usd in your account, just that the bank will only buy at 1430. Same thing happens with fund. They sell to you higher but display your asset value at the lower buy price. Quantity remains same. It's a paper loss until u sell. |

Are you sure it's Stanbic equity fund you subscribed to that haven't gotten back to initial 500k u invested? because Stanbic equity have been doing great this week I lost about 6k+ in Stanbic Imaan (500k) when I first deposited(494k reflected in my portfolio) .... after that days trading it yielded about 19k .... effectively balancing it (512k) Lost more in equity same 500k investment and 493k reflected....I haven't gotten back to 500k yet... In cowrywise.....I experienced same with Afrivest.....the funds land incomplete Lol[/quote] |
| Re: Mutual Funds by bassdow: 6:34am On Feb 20 |
Bababull:just leave the funds for a while (at least 1-year or till it recovers). You mostly would loose if you rush to widthdraw. Your money could fall from 100 naira all the way to 30 naira and start climbing back again and could even climb as high as 140 naira. That's the way equity operates. |

cyrilex202:Frankly, if anyone has funds they dont need till December in MMF, move 90% to an equity fund. You will be better off for it. The ASI is now over 194.6k today(will likely hit 195k) and is on course to break the 200k barrier. Tap into those gains. Secondly, there will likely be a rate cut on tuesday by the MPC. This means MMF yields will drop further with investors moving funds to equity further driving equity yields up. Lastly, you can catch the dividends bubble between Apr and July when most company's start paying their div. Thats an extra 6-8% yield with a timed entry. If Trumps attack Iran, price of nigerian oil giants will go up also pulling the ASI further up. There will be other impact of course including negative ones. Of course there will be red days, but ultimately by year end, your equity will likely be more than 15% better than MMF. |

So that 100k donated on the 17th February 2026 just made 1k5+ in 3 days. This 100k made 1k5 in mmf in 1 month. I love greens but hate reds

| Re: Mutual Funds by suckprick: 3:16pm On Feb 20 |
Honestly all these people doing equity and stocks dey try. To me there's no difference between those things and sportybet. The both have same thing in common which is tendency to loose your money. Stories I have heard about stocks no nice at all. More grease to una elbow. I no dey do pass myself that's why I stick to MMF.😊 |
| Re: Mutual Funds by Preator: 4:05pm On Feb 20*. Modified: 10:48am On Feb 21 |
suckprick:Not for the faint hearted. Definitely not if you are hypertensive 😂 Unlike sportybet, you can still recover whatever you lost, if you wait long enough. |

| Re: Mutual Funds by bassdow: 4:19pm On Feb 20 |
Babygal2020:if you have basic understanding of how things work, then you take calculated risk. You must not start with excessively huge funds; 100,000 naira is okay or even 50,000 naira sef. put it and for your own sake or at least your heart, try not to check if for at least 6-months and leave it there for at least 1-year. if you must check, just prepare your mind that it could be more or less BUT don't attempt to liquidate as that's when you really run at loss BUT if you let it be, it would recover in mst cases. na just time e need ELSE just remain with MMF jejely or do Commercial papers with trusted companies but even that sef get risk |
| Re: Mutual Funds by bassdow: 4:24pm On Feb 20 |
Earlier this year, i said certain things including the fact most people would do MMF like it's HYIP or MMM and people said funny things BUT now, it's exactly what they doing. Funny enough, just this month alone, have gotten into conversation with at least 2 different potential clients who want to build websites and apps that works like the likes of Stanbic IBTC, Norrenberger, firstAlly, etc. This ain't any different from what happened during the MMM boom because we sef follow develope and sell scripts. once again, don't get carried away by high interest rates. Not saying every or any One of them intends deFrauding anyOne sha. |
