Except in rare cases - like the strike on terrorists in Nigeria and elsewhere (Iran?) where he said he's going to do something and goes ahead to do it, his talks doesn't make much sense (most times) like his actions. So I concluded that it's best to assess the guy based on his actions than his words.

They want to whitewash his involvement, showing that he left the Justice Department alone .
Regarding the evidence , judges had sealed grand jury evidence but nothing prevented Garland from ordering FBI interviews and reopening the investigation. Trump did that for Ghislaine in 2020.
They were happy to pretend the released evidence was under seal , prosecutors knew what was in it.
If they had an ounce of believable evidence connecting Trump to EPSTEIN they would have prosecuted him
Ghislaine was convicted in a carefully orchestrated trial that made no mention of any other person at all.
