Or the exhaust itself has a leak back into the car and caused it.

But the question about this is that it happened during the day AND will that cause INSTANT death? At least there will be a moment of discomfort which will trigger effort to want to alight from the car to get fresh air, or what do you think?

I believe he meant carbon monoxide CO and not carbon dioxide CO2. To answer your question, it can cause instant death yes, There is no moment of any discomfort except the confusion combined with loss of muscle control, headache, weakness, drowsiness, sleep go just dey sweet and heavy dey go as the victim dey go helplessly. It's called the silent killer cos it's colorless, odorless, tasteless and non- irritating too. Tightly enclosed spaces makes the situation worse too.
