Leaders of main opposition political parties in Nigeria are set to address a joint news conference in Abuja on the amendment to the Electoral Act 2026 and other related matters.

Present at the joint news conference, themed “Urgent call to save Nigeria’s democracy,” are former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi.

Also present included former ministers Rauf Aregbesola and Rotimi Amaechi, a former governor of Cross River State, Liyel Imoke, and the the National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), David Mark.

Others were the National Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Ahmed Ajuji, Dino Melaye and Yunusa Tanko.

The National Assembly on February 17, 2026, passed the Electoral Act 2026 (Amendment) Bill.

The amendment came amid intense public debate over the electronic transmission of election results in real time.

The harmonised report of the bill, including the contentious Section 60(3), was passed by both chambers of the National Assembly, while it was signed into law by President Bola Tinubu on February 18.

The news conference held at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.

These group of men has nothing to offer Nigeria. Up till this moment ADC are yet to put up a proper structure for their party.

I tend to agree we truly don't have opposition in Nigeria truly. Na now day break for una side? The electoral Act that has been at the fore for how many months? I am surprised to hear David Mark say they've learned lessons from the just concluded FCT elections. Like seriously? What were they expecting? You guys are jokers. It's late already.

The ADC is just a club of career opportunists, habitual party hoppers and disgruntled politicians desperately trying to resurrect their stalled political careers and keep feasting on power. They have no ideas, no vision, no ideological backbone, to build a developing nation. All they do is repackage failures as performers and turn serial party defectors into “principled” leaders. Meanwhile, both the politicians and their supporters are just running in circles, chasing shadows.

Deep down, Obi is thinking "I should have stayed in LP." Dude is only there to add to the number. The owner of the party and ticket is well sighted in this sitting arrangement. You can feel his aura compared to "the man in black"

Let me elaborate a little: See where David Mark (ADC Chairman) and Aregbesola (National Secretary) are seated - At the right side of Atiku. Atiku sat at the center as the undisputed leader of the caucus. Amaechi is seated beside Aregbe - at the far end of Atiku's right side. Obi is seated at the left side of Atiku, David Mark, Aregbe, and Amaechi. See how Obi is positioned between an empty seat and a woman in the lower hierarchy of the party leadership structure.

Obi is dreaming if he thinks he can clinch the ticket.

Jokes aside, I've observed that official ADC photos always portray Obi as a subordinate. Atiku media handles does this too. This is deliberate. You either see Obi looking lost or kowtowing or bowing to Atiku. Soft power play.
