A man has stirred debate online after revealing why he walked away from his wedding on the day of the ceremony, Rep9ja reports.

The story, originally shared on X (formerly Twitter), described how a single incident at the venue changed his mind about getting married.

According to the man, trouble began during preparations for family photographs. He said his wife’s mother publicly yelled at her husband for lagging behind.

The groom claimed the manner in which she spoke to her husband alarmed him.

“On my wedding day, my wife’s mother yelled at her husband because he was lagging behind for family pictures,” he wrote.

He said the incident made him fear for his future.

“I called my best man to the corner and told him I’m cancelling the wedding. Because if her mother can talk down on her husband in such a manner in public. I’m afraid her daughter (my wife) will do worse,” he stated.

The man explained that he created an excuse to leave the venue without raising suspicion.

“I pretended to answer a troubling call and left the venue. Told them I needed to pick up the ring,” he wrote.

He then switched off his phone.

“Turned off my phone. Till the next day. The marriage ended,” he added.

Very valid point. Some men would have blindly proceeded just to avoid financial loss, only to start writing epistles of regret later.

I got married at 29 in the year 2000 and my wife was 26. Like I said earlier, marriage is not for Children but imperfect adults who are ready to overlook their partners mistakes. The man in question here acted very immature. I believe he must have known the intended wife for some time and should have acted based on her behavior, not her mother's own.

You may be right and also wrong. Some men wait for the last straw. He might have been putting up with his fiancés bad character and trying to see how to manage it but then had to make last minute decisions to either live with it or find peace elsewhere and her mothers action on his wedding day was just the icing on the cake. I will never stand for any of my siblings to marry into a home where the men are relegated to the back. Men are the power and structure of every family and women complement and complete the whole. I don't need to be married for 1000 years to know what is good and bad. My loving parents are there and my elder ones are there teaching me by example

I quite agree with you to an extent. The truth of the matter is that no human being is a saint. The same people who seems so good today can change tomorrow vice versa. I personally know a lady whose mother was an example of a perfect wife and mother but the lady is exactly opposite her mother in behaviour, abusing her husband emotionally and physically always, so using the mother's behaviour to cancel the wedding is uncalled for unless there's other things he's not telling us.

These guys have mind o.. to quit relationships na war especially when feelings dey involved talk more of cancelling wedding after all the emotional, financial etc. investment.
I guess it's different strokes for different folks.

The man is smart. He saw the red flag and didn't bother checking VAR, he sent himself off. Any home where your mother in law is like that, that man already knows she will remote control her daughter.
