njokuuche77:The economy is growing exponentially. You don't need to explain to us what this means, we already know. Debt to GDP ratio is what it is, no matter how you try to spin it, it's still good news. |

HacheNoire:How can you know how far he has taken us without information on where we were before he was given the job of president, and now that he’s been on the job for almost three years? The table is not a trend analysis of where Nigeria was before Tinubu and now. If you are not a propagandist liar, you should validate your position with a trend analysis for Nigerian GDP to debt ratio in 2023 vs 2026! |

I'm kind of amused by this thread, really. Government bots are rejoicing up and down, while the opposition is mourning, with one of them explaining things away by saying that 'the countries with high debt also generate more revenue, therefore, they can bear the debt' Right. Won't a large chunk of that revenue go to servicing the debt as well... The problem is, many of these people miss the cold reason why we are debt burdened...we rely mainly on exporting raw materials whose prices we do not control. (I expect some government bot to now tell me about tinubu diversifying the economy...by selling more raw materials whose prices we do not control). The truth is, many of those countries are indebted as is Nigeria because not only are they resource dependent, but they spend a lot of monies on subsidies and looking good (Argentina looks like a developed country, as do Egypt, Morocco and some of the nations on that list, but they do it by getting into high debts). Egypt used to spend a ton of cash...nay tonnes of cash subsidsing electricity...and now it has contributed to their debt to the point that they are removing subsides on power. I doubt that both the tinubu and opposition supporters are interested in solving the debt issue...instead they use it as a tool to abuse each other on this site. Even the solutions are also used as a tool to abuse each other on this site. I doubt that either side are really interested in solutions...they just want to chop oil money. |

njokuuche77:The problem with your argument is that if their economy was growing, and they was earning enough revenue, they would be spending a ton of that revenue on debt servicing, and the debt would be reducing... But it isn't which means that the problem is worse than you think. iNFACT the fact that their debt is that high may even indicate that they are struggling to pay their debts too as well. The issue is not whose mercedes benz is bigger in terms of debt but why all african nations have debt. At the end, the basis of our economies is resource dependency, and that has to change. |

Parachoko:Nigeria still has a debt problem, and your party the APC contributed to it...and remember that Buhari, who worsened the debt by high spending on subsides, printing of money and massive loan intakes was supported by TInubu. The problem with tinubu right now is that there is no effort being made to make even more decisive decisions to reduce our dependence on borrowing. 1.He could have continued buhari's effort to get everyone on the banking system....which could have helped with the tax reforms 2. He could have removed subsides on power, so that everyone pays above N200 per kwh, and that means more investment in the sector 3.He could do more to fight corruption and end patronage projects. 4. He could also reduce our dependence on oil. |

njokuuche77:You have not fully understood that statistic then. The essence of GDP in the ratio is an assessment of the country's ability to repay - economics fundamentals assume that countries raise revenue through taxation, therefore GDP is an indicator of potential government taxable revenue. |
