It is the president's prerogative, you have no say in that.

The same old pattern of initial gragra.
Tinubu has never appointed anyone based on merit.
Re: IGP Disu Talks Tough, Says No Officer Above Law No Matter Rank Or Position by Avedonn: 8:23am On Mar 05
That was how the former IGP behaved, claiming he felt like a "tiger" but ultimately ended up acting like a house cat. The problem with the Nigeria Police Force is institutional, and the only way to make it work is to reform and decentralize it. In fact, most institutions in Nigeria need to be decentralized, with the exception of the military, immigration, customs, and INEC.

Have you no familiar with the constitution that the president has the power to place any one he want no matter the rank or position, even if he' about retire or not, to be IGP, COAS etc..

Constitution gave the president that utmost power bro.

After listening to his speech, what stuck a cord with me is him saying training has to be continuous. Once the Nigerian Police embarks on lifelong training of their personnel, we will begin to see huge effects.

The new motto should be: if police officers are not on shift, on leave or retired, they should constantly be on training.
Re: IGP Disu Talks Tough, Says No Officer Above Law No Matter Rank Or Position by fabolouz1(m): 8:35am On Mar 05
All of them keep talking tough when they resume duties but end up doing nothing.
Our police force is endangering the lives of the very people they are paid to protect and they are a National embarrassment by mounting road blocks not for lessening crimes but to collect illegal levies from drivers and other road users.
The police force should be reformed and their scope of work clearly spelt out.
A situation where police officers are the ones asking for vehicle particulars , evidence of fire extinguisher and other laughable scenarios should stop henceforth and their focus should be on the prevention of crime and maintaining law and order.
More than sixty percent of the personnel should be flushed out because they have no business been in the force in the first place.

The first face of disgrace is the police force.

One of the reasons nigeria is a disgrace.

Deal with the issue of bad policing and become a GRACED COUNTRY.

They don cause Una for this country that saying the truth is an inheritance calamity in this country and society. I think it's high time they use traditional religion to swear u people into holding pubic offices, that's the only way Truth will prevail while making speeches

Re: IGP Disu Talks Tough, Says No Officer Above Law No Matter Rank Or Position by Odidigboigbo(m): 8:53am On Mar 05
As usual, Initial gragra; the next statement would be no road block again, all road block should be dismantled; no escort for VIPs . We all knows how it always end
Re: IGP Disu Talks Tough, Says No Officer Above Law No Matter Rank Or Position by wasuka14(m): 9:09am On Mar 05
The number one thing this IG should do is to work on police take home and welfare. As u can see, from the full speech, the only time they clapped is when you mentioned 'Police welfare'
This is the thing that will boost there moral and reduce corruption.
Without that this officers will continue to block the roads, and engage in all sorts of illegal activities as well. The minimum salary of an officer in Nigeria today should not be less than 300k at least excluding other incentives.
That's when accountability, professionalism can be lawfully demanded from them.

Please be a talk and do IG. Politicians will try to use you for so many things, they will expose you to huge amount of money so as to do there bidding, that may even jeopardise the National Security. You have to be firm, and focus and know that no matter how many billions they gave u, you won't leave this Earth Surface with 1kobo.

May Almighty Allahu help you and grant you adequate wisdom and power to rule the Nigerian Police Force and protect you against all evils internally and externally Insha Allahu.
Best of luck to you sir.

True stance... I'm with you on that. They should contactly get their mind refreshed, mindset aligned and skills upgraded to ensure optimal delivery if their service without corruption tendencies... And that means their welfare (by extension, their family's) should be catered to by the government and complimentary authorities.

Let me guess...

He will ban checkpoints.
He will ban police escort for VIPs
He may reinstitute ban on tinted glasses.

At the end, it is all talk with no action.

Highly predictable!

Interesting viewpoint.

I'm curious - why exempt the military, immigration etc.? Aren't their problems institutional too - with decentralization being the solution?

Your predecessor talked more than this. All police na the same. That's why 90% of them can never grow above the level they are, no matter their promotion/rank. Most especially those ones on the road harassing people and extorting people of their hard earned money
