The fever , when healed caused the demise of over 3 millon women and children. I am happy he lived old enough to make mockery of himself before his great grand children. It's quite understandable took certain decisions at the prime of his life when wisdom and experience is far-fetched. But at this age, He should have kept quiet! |

Foolish man, irresponsible and inept. It was your ill-informed actions that plunged Nigeria into a costly blood battle. You supervised the murder and annihilation of hapless children, youths and women. Unfortunately, you are alive to witness a massacre of your people by the same oligarchy whose tunes you danced to. That fever will kill you. Ewu! |

I can understand why some people can't tolerate this statesman, together with OBJ, they gave one fake leader a bloody nose sotey he ran away and left his people in abject poverty and famine. No matter how hard Gowon tries reconciliations, they can never accept. The 8 is passed from generation to generation. |

Gowon did what the majority of Nigerians wanted. That much should never be forgotten. The minorities wanted self determination all over the country and Gowon's government gave it to them. He did the right thing. May God guide us to always do the right thing. |

Racoon:Why is this man still blabbing at his age? We all know what happened. Just move on, since you've refused to apologise to Igbos or accept responsibility for the civil war by denying an agreement you already signed. |

aalangel:In May 1966, when his homeboy Ironsi, was in power, Ojukwu was the only military governor who, wholeheartedly supported Ironsi's unification decree 34! Ojukwu bragged in public about how he intend to export his kinsmen to the north to take up civil service posts, therein. There was a great influx of school leavers from the eastern region into the northern region, immediately after the January 15th, 1966 coup. Less than a year later after his brother Ironsi, has been booted out of office (and rightly so), Ojukwu now wants Confederacy-decentralisation of power. Who the hell does Ojukwu thought he is? Just because his father was one of the richest man in the country at the time does not confer on him the right to dictate to us what kind of govt, we should have in our country. Gowon was right to reneged on aburi, fever or no fever and he owes nobody any apology. In Ojukwu's world, it was acceptable for Ironsi to become a military dictator of Nigeria but Gowon cannot and should not. And for that, Ojukwu went to war and got soundly beaten. And some folks called him a freedom fighter and an hero (sic!). Yeah right........ |

Racoon:Don’t blame him, ojukwu went prepared… he went with his lawyers, counsel, special adviser etc. Gowon on the other hand went there like a gentleman and maybe a lil bit tipsy. He signed without proofreading the whole agreement. That’s what caused the problem. |

T9ksy:In other words, what you guys care about is ethnicity and nothing else? Ironsi and Ojukwu are Igbos, and supported decree 34, a civil service Decree But Gowon is a Northerner, so his decree 14 that abolished the 4 Region and created 12 states, and his decree 15 that ended resource control, are highly welcome Ok ![]() |

gidgiddy:That's your warped and mischevious mindset at play. Initially, Zik was all for federalism but by 1951, he started the discordant tune of Unitary system of govt., because according to him, he doesn't want to have to get a visa to come to yorubaland. Zik and his NCNC party were the quintessential unity beggars! He had been chanting "unity, unity, uniyy" ever since and no sooner had an igboman became HOS, and viola, he foisted unitary govt on the rest of us without so much as a plebsicite. Your good self was here always gaslighting us that, that was the only to run a military govt as oppossed to a democratic govt. So if Ironsi is allowed to run a centralised govt in May of 1966, why then shouldn't be allowed to continue with the same centralised form of govt in Jan 1967? Why did Ojukwu went to war because Gowon insisted on continuing with the Unitary govt that he, Ojukwu wholeheartedly supported, 6 months earlier? What has changed in that short period of time that necessitate Ojukwu plunging the whole country in a bloody and needless war? |

The truth is gradually coming out. Guilt and regret are hunting him. The innocent blood he spilled due to his claimed fever that made him signed the Abori Accord, and later reneged on it, will keep on hunting him & his generations unborn. |

I thought Agbod0rians said that Gowon didn't sign any Aburi Accord with Ojukwu. The truth is gradually coming out. |

I am disappointed like others who have commented on Gowon's confession. He would have said it the way it was then after all, there is nothing expected from him which we have not heard. If Gowon has come out and ask for forgiveness from Nigerians for the mistake he made on Aburi agreement, he would have written his name on gold. From my own assessment, Gowon never knew the degree to which Nigeria as a country has sunk, it is like he is day-dreaming and just playing with words not knowing how debase Nigeria as a country. OBJ just celebrated 89 years, not a perfect man but he is more eulogized and respected than any Nigerian leader we have ever had. Gowon, if you are reading this piece, you fall our hands, I pray for you to have another chance to correct your wrongs. |

T9ksy:Thats because you guys dont know what unitary governance is. You can't have unitary governance where there is resource control, resource control is the most important aspect of federalism, and Ironsi kept resource control, while Gowon removed it. The only thing you people keep making noise about is a civil service Decree, Decree 34. While Gowon who balkanised your Regions with Decree 14, created 12 states, took away resource control with Decree 15, is out there laughing at you all ![]() |
