Lagos wahala na everybody e dey touch, landlord oo, tenant oo, everybody get wetin dey do them.

I was shocked when I got home yesterday to find a seal order on our gate, with a chain locking the main gate so we couldn’t drive in. They only left the small gate open.

I didn’t know what the lock meant, what offense we had committed, or what we hadn’t done.

Today, since it’s LASPPA (another name for the planning authority that usually provides building approvals that pasted it, actually there are two of them: LASPPA and LASBCA, which controls and monitors construction), hmmmm... Shey I never turn real estate developer like this? 🙈🙈

So today I photocopied all our documents and went to their office. I asked, “You guys sealed our house, what happened?”

Them: “Ermmm… do you have a building permit?”

Me: “Shouldn’t you already know that, considering how many millions you charge for the permit?”

Them: “Well, we don’t know until you show us.”

Me: hands them the document.

Them: “Oh, your document is complete and fine. You will pay 400k to unseal your building.”

I thought it was a joke. Then I asked, “Why was it sealed in the first place?”

Them: “There must have been a letter that was sent that you didn’t respond to. Ask the landlord.”

Me: “I am the landlord, and there was no letter. The only letter I received from you was last year, when I came to this same office to submit all documents in office XYZ. Since then, no letter has been sent.”

Them: “I know those that locked it can show you proof of notice.”

Me: “I want to see it, because I don’t believe it. The house is less than 3 months old.”

After going back and forth, he said, “Okay, what do you have to pay for the key?”

Me: “5k.” We started pricing it like crayfish.

After we agreed on a price, I asked, “How do I pay?” They gave me one personal Access Bank account.

I said, “No way. I must pay into the LASPPA account.”

Everywhere burst. They said, “Why do you people always behave like you have sense? Blablabla… pay into this account, let’s process it.”

Me: “No way. I can only pay into the state account.”

After all the wasted time and drama, they finally sent me to a bank downstairs in the same building, and I paid.

This is the hurdle of living in Lagos, everything will shock you. I am just tired at the moment. I use to see this thing in people's gate, didn't know they didn't do anything oo.

During GEJ's time, you people shouted highest against corruption, alas you wanted power s that you tribe will be ones to perpetuate it.
