Just to let people know, I don't support tinubu, and I would never vote for him. In 2027 , I will be voting for the opposition as usual. My prayer is they got to unite so that we can get rid of apc. Having said that and booked space ![]() If there was subsidy in place by now, we would have been taking money from other sectors like healthcare and education to pay for the subsidy and we would have been borrowing money to fill the gap Remember also that we are still sevocing debt. That means any oil windfall has to go to paying off the debts Remember also that refining crude into several products is a business and it has to be done profitably otherwise refineries would be scrap in years. Subsides would accelerate the process of dangote refinery crashing because no profits to be made. Also if we want consumption subsides then we do what sane countries do and pay high rate income tax to fund it. Finally, oil money is not enough for our country. Yes I am aware that corruption dey, and that's part of why I am not supporting apc. But without corruption, we are not earning the kind of oil revenue that would enable the government to subsidize fuel to a level where everyone can get it cheap in high prices times. 50 years of doing subsides is also again a part of why we got into debt which is also why the subsidy had to go in the first place This has nothing to do with GEJ or tinubu. If obi was in charge now, I go say the same thing. Until 2011 , I backed subsides until I understood how damaging they were to our economy If Ghana and Niger have working refineries thanks to their not paying subsides, then we should do same too. And they have the same amount of corruption as we do |

Its just common sense Oil is going up everywhere in the world including countries that have the biggest oil reserves and multiple refineries e.g. Canada and US. Geo-Politics 101 of the useless war going on in Iran. Laws of demand and supply.

People are asking a valid question: if not for corruption, why should Petrol be more expensive when the oil is refined within Nigeria? Most of Nigeria’s crude is light crude which can be fully refined locally. So why is a war in far away Iran already pinching us locally? Does our oil go through the Strait of Hormuz abroad for blessing before being refined locally? Shouldn’t the government have more money to improve service delivery to the people when oil prices rise? |

givedemwotowoto:I am in canada. We are the 4th largest producer of crude oil. We have 16 refineries, yet Oil prices have gone up at the pump.

How does the government explain the fact that as the Naira appreciates against the Dollar, prices of goods rise in Nigeria? Is this not voodoo economics by APC government? |

iwaeda:When the headwinds settle and prices start to drop, hope you will also remember to laugh.......if it was in the past we would have been grappling with fuel scarcity by now and even buy at a higher price than what is currently available......removing subsidy and full market deregulation was the best policy by this govt......PBAT till 31. |

Diesel is 1450 to 1,600. Cost of production and transportation has just multiplied. Government placed tariffs on batteries and and solar panels to prevent more people going off the grid for selfish revenue accrual. The grid supplies power mostly at night when productivity is close to zero. Why are there no plans to explore EVs? No. Government has no plans for development of the country. If they do, they would know where to start. As for dangote, he has to sell the CNG that his refinery is producing. The talk about CNG was high few years ago but no one is concerned about it after he jacked the price up. His alternative after most truck owners rejected the CNG is to roll out free delivery of products purchased from his industries by factoring in the transportation cost using marginal increase in the price of the products using his CNG Trucks. Now he has seen an opening. US/ISRAEL/IRAN crisis has placed importation on hold. He has no competition. He has increased the price of diesel by 50% to make it more expensive for marketers to transport products themselves. The goal is for everyone to fallback to him either enrol in the free delivery program or migrate to CNG trucks. He has nothing to loose. Only gains and more gains. The government didn't listen and at least focus on Diesel production which could have stopped this moves in this kind of situation. Power generation is going to zero because the cost of diesel is beyond normal. Next to tumble is our exchange rate. Everything is going to be 3times the current price. |

givedemwotowoto:You should have asked govt to give you the fuel for free.....like say nah only Nigeria get oil......oil prices just started climbing last week and you expect tinubu to start sharing money on the streets today.......your idea of basic economics is pedestrian and utterly ignorant. |

This one has nothing to do with APC as a party/government even though they are very useless. This oil price increment has everything to do with America's useless war in Iran. Those of you cheering America and Israel in the conflict, can see the outcome. |

There isn’t a single perfect indicator, but political scientists and historians generally agree that the most determinant factor of a bad government is how it treats the rights, welfare, and accountability to its citizens. In practice, several key signs reveal whether a government is bad or not. Here are the most important factors 👇 1. Lack of Accountability If leaders cannot be held responsible for their actions, governments tend to become abusive. Examples include: Rigged elections No independent courts Media censorship Leaders staying in power indefinitely Countries scoring poorly on measures like the Democracy Index or Freedom in the World Index often show this pattern. Why it matters: Without accountability, corruption and abuse grow unchecked. 2. Violation of Human Rights A government becomes clearly harmful when it systematically violates the basic rights of its people. Examples: Torture or arbitrary detention Suppressing protests Discrimination against minorities International groups such as Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch monitor these abuses. 3. Widespread Corruption When public officials use power for personal gain rather than public service. This includes: Bribery Embezzlement Nepotism Corruption levels are measured by the Corruption Perceptions Index produced by Transparency International. 4. Failure to Provide Basic Public Goods A government is failing if it cannot provide essential services such as: Security Infrastructure Healthcare Education Organizations like the World Bank and United Nations track these development indicators. 5. Suppression of Opposition A government becomes dangerous when it does not allow peaceful disagreement. Signs include: Arresting opposition politicians Controlling elections Banning political parties Healthy governments allow criticism without punishment. ✅ In summary: The most decisive factor is whether citizens can hold their leaders accountable and keep their basic rights. When those disappear, corruption, repression, and poor governance usually follow. 💡 A simple rule many scholars use: If citizens cannot peacefully change their leaders or criticize them without fear, the government is likely bad. |

This useless APC government is really toying with the welfare of Nigerians. The life of Nigerians means nothing to this administration. Imagine the silly excuses a government is giving for increasing the suffering of the citizens. Tell me when the fuel prices drop globally do the nnpc also reduce the prices of petroleum products?. When other nations increase the salaries of their workers do they also increase the one of Nigerians?. Is our purchasing power in parity with Americans and Europeans?. While are these characters fooling themselves in pretending to be explaining rubbish to us. |

Tooreda:Yeah, that's why I am not voting for tinubu. Too corrupt But the amount of money that would be needed to keep fuel prices low go pass what tinubu is spending bribing governor's. And it would bite us hard later ( In no way is bribery right) |
| Re: FG Defends Fuel Price Fluctuations, Cites Market Forces by ufotunang: 4:40pm On Mar 08 |
If the naira is appreciated , strengthen and have value against the dollars fuel prices will be cheap.. like if the exchange rate is like 400 naira to a dollar the price of fuel will be at least 250 naira to a litre even if there is a Iran USA war in the middle east and even if the crude oil price increases to 85 dollars per barrel. The exchange rate also determines the prices of fuel, diesel |

chopnaira:So even in Canada, you till continue to engage in the tribal bîgótry and ethnîc divisive politics you constantly push on this forum. And bringing up Canada doesn’t answer the real question Nigerians are asking about the hike in fuel prices. In fact, comparing Canada’s oil market to Nigeria’s situation is hardly the defense you think it is. |
