Treadway:It's you that is the politican. Me, I see poverty growing under APC, and PDP. You are here trying to make me vote for your own brand of poverty. As for me, a pox on both your house and their house. Make una both learn by force. |

Depending on the type of measurements used, I can even argue that about 90% of Nigerians are poor, or poor in a structural sense. Even if you're a wealthy Nigerian, you have one of the weakest passport, weakest diplomatic coverage, and due to situations outside your control, you'll spend so much on educating your kids, accessing good health care, and security. You'll live with some of the religiously dumb people who will make your life a living hell. The traffic (especially in Lagos) , hot sun that wants to roast you, and politicians that have sworn to disgrace and make life hell for you as time goes by. Also there is no wealth security. You can be rich today and poor tomorrow, with downward economic mobility more likely than upward economic mobility. The food you eat and the water you drink, even from so called Nafdac registered places can make you sick, and if you dare get sick, good luck with medicine and hope it's not fake, and the doctors not feeling like they are doing you a favour, while not giving excuse of no electricity. All these makes the life expectancy of Nigerians very low, regardless of your wealth. Nigeria is indeed a poor country, and it's so sad to watch it get even poorer, and cheered by dumb citizens who would elect folks just because he is Yoruba and gave them a slogan to shout. Renewed hope indeed. |

Ushame:Let me respond to this once and for all , back then the Nigerian bureau for statistics wasn't publishing monthly or yearly stats for poverty index or other indexes , until around 2015 , so they did it every 2 to 3 years , by the time tinubu left office poverty index had greatly reduced even the world bank noted it ,if you want the article from world bank I will gladly publish it ,my issue with you guys is you forget data is very easy to get now thanks to LLM , obi that many of you are trying to tout as a better manager met poverty index at 41% under ngige and increased it by middle of his tenure to 54%, it reduced to 14% under obiano , would you now say he was a bad manager? Please read these screenshot below carefully.

Putinofrussia:what manner of homoseipens are you lots? The so call reforms and policies that should translate to better living conditions are rather plunging the masses into multidimensional poverty. Imagine overtaking India with population of over 1 billion. This is the height of ineffectiveness, incompetent and massive fallure. Laying foundation like buhari led for 8 years without a single result . Foolish people defending failures |

And some blindly ignorant people will keep praising the failure of Bola Tinubu. I met an ignorant woman yesterday who told me that Nigeria will enjoy the benefit of Tinubu's government only after Tinubu's 2nd Tenure, then I begin to wonder what benefit is there to enjoy when Tinubu's government has consistently failed to alleviate poverty in three years of government. Nigeria surpassing India in poverty is a total shame for the lackluster government of Bola Tinubu |

Treadway:Many people don't understand how these statistics and data works. It's not a simplistic measure. The data used by the world bank measures poverty globally not what poverty actually looks like inside a country. When you convert the $3/day threshold, thus translates to $15/day for a family of 5. In many places in Nigeria that income would not typically be considered poverty. $450 a month is about 630k a month. Who would say that such a family living in Kebbi state is living in extreme poverty? It's just a statistical tool for global comparison not a realistic measure of living standards within countries. It rose from $1.90 to $2.15 and now $3 It's good to understand these data for what they are but 99% of Nigerians would not understand. |

Rutherinspace:Many thanks for explaining the context of WB statistics on global comparisons of poverty. Would you say that PDP gave us a better economy than APC has done for the past 11 years, as this is the issue at stake here? A better economy anchored on deregulation and privatisation policies of 16 years. |

anonimi:Most of the privatization in Nigeria was carried out before 2015. Over 100+ state enterprises were privatized or concessioned. The question is what is the state of these enterprises today? Nitel/Mtel Power generation and distribution Steel and heaven industry (Delta Steel) Banking assets Cement and manufacturing Ports Between 2015 and now. There have been very few privatization of government enterprises. Some proposals are in the works. While I don't understand the essence of the comparison because most of the privatization was done before 2015, I would say the privatization of government assets have been a failure in Nigeria. |

Somebody living on three dollars a day maybe poor in Lagos but is not poor in the majority of the country. That is over 120k a month. Most starting job offers for graduates are not up to that |
