This is why all the faux outrage about preserving women’s spaces from the right never resonated with me. Historically right wingers have always been anti women and will always be. It’s literally in the definition of their ideology. Conservatives: conserving all the old ways of doing things including subjugating women!

In the last four years, 8 women in the United States were killed by undocumented immigrants. Eight. Meanwhile about 70 women are murdered every single month by their male partners, most of them American citizens.

If protecting women was actually the goal, the national conversation would be about the violence happening in our own homes, not immigration talking points designed to keep people angry and distracted.

The truth is uncomfortable but simple. The greatest threat to women has never been immigration. It has always been male violence.

Domestic violence is one of the leading causes of death for women around the world, yet somehow it rarely gets the same outrage, the same headlines, or the same political urgency.

Instead we get fear campaigns about the border while women continue to be beaten, stalked, and murdered by the men closest to them.

You cannot claim to care about women’s safety while ignoring the epidemic right in front of you.

If we actually want to protect women, the conversation needs to shift from scapegoats to accountability. Until that happens, the outrage isn’t about safety. It’s about politics.
