What Happens If Biafra Becomes A Reality? by Goodman024(op): 3:52pm On Mar 13
I’ve always wondered about the Biafra secession discussion. Some supporters seem to believe that independence would automatically lead to a better life, but looking at the economic, political, and security realities of creating a new country, it also seems like it could come with very serious short- to medium-term hardship.
At the same time, if a significant number of people truly want to leave, it makes me wonder why the Nigerian government is strongly opposed to letting them go. Is it about national unity, economic interests, geopolitical risks, or something else?
I also sometimes wonder whether political and business elites from the region are more cautious about secession than ordinary supporters because they better understand the possible economic consequences.
For those who support Biafra and those who oppose it: What do you realistically think would happen in the first 5–10 years if secession actually happened? Would life truly improve, or would the transition be much harder than people expect?

There's nothing greater than love for country, which is nonexistent in Nigeria. When a people genuinely love their country, you see them make sacrifices for it to succeed.

In There Was a Country, Chinua Achebe wrote about how many of them and other technocrats worked for Biafra free of charge. That's a clear sign of people who genuinely wanted their country to succeed.

To answer your question, in first 5–10 years, nothing significant will happen but you see clear signs that the new country is headed somewhere.

Give it two decades, other African countries will want to copy the Biafran model because there's clear love for country, determination to excel, people sharing the same prosperity ideals and culture, and industry to drive the new country to success!

What you have to understand is that Nigeria is a British colonial creation. Had the British wanted, they could have dissolved Nigeria in 1960, rather than grant independence.

Former Biafran Warlord, Ojukwu, said in one of his last interviews before he died that what many Nigerians dont realise is that October 1st 1960 was the date Nigeria set out on a Journey to know if they could co-exist as a nation.

That Journey has turned to be a disastrous failure. What political leaders said at independence was that if we remain together, we shall progress, develop and be greater than if we were apart

Almost 70 years later, political leaders of today are still saying this as the reason for 'one Nigeria'. In the meantime, Nigeria has become world poverty capital, 5th most insecure country on earth, country of particular concern and one of the most corrupt.

So what is the purpose of being together? Disintegration will allow all the constituent parts of Nigeria to pursue their individual dreams how best they know.

There is no point pursuing a dream of 'one Nigeria' that has never worked, and will never work

Better for Biafra, Arewa, Oduduwa and whatever other country may emerge from Nigeria, to go their different ways and pursue their individual dreams
Re: What Happens If Biafra Becomes A Reality? by aswani(m): 6:46pm On Mar 13
In less than 2 years, some will be complaining about marginalisation, same with Odùduwà by the way, and they too will seek to break away from Biafra.

The only thing that is holding them together now is the hatred of the centre and unified complaints of marginalisation.

Oh by the way, Peter Obi will not ever be President of Biafra either.

Achebe also wrote about how Biafran officials were hoarding food aid, and giving more to their families and girlfriends.

Should I get the exact quote and book?

Dare me.

We know for sure there'll be nothing like democracy or freedom of speech there.

Can you imagine them insulting and criticising 'President Nnamdi Kanu' the way we abuse Tinubu?

Never.

Defence minister Emma Powerful and Vice President Simon Ekpa will welcome your spicy butt to their dinner table, or perhaps use you for Nkwobi if that takes their fancy on the night.

Well I have my own opinion of what I think Biafra would be like as a sovereign country of its own. But before i answer your question broadly of what I think, please show the map of Biafra first. Don’t even think of including Bayelsa and the rest of our Ijaw communities in the neighboring States because we will never and can never be part of that Biafra idea. Other than that Igbo’s would make a good country for themselves👍🏻

Biafra would be a federation with a weak center

The center would be a parliamentary system of government making it even weaker

Biafra will be a model country and one that the entire black race will be proud of.
Give Biafra independence and you will see developments and love for a country.

Nigeria is a contraption that has refused to gel and may never become a nation where citizens will love their country.

Ethnic, tribal and religious bigotry has eaten so deep into Nigeria and obviously irredeemable.

How many of these process dud you go through before the British came from Europe to make you a Nigerian? Do you people actually believe that if a motion is moved in the Nigerian national assembly for secession or seperation by any part of Nigeria, the other parts will be happy to vote for Nigeria to break up? For real? You guys know they won't do that, they will vote out such motion

In 2018, Honourable Kingsley Chinda moved a motion for the division of Nigeria at the national assembly. Do you know what happened? He was shouted down, thrown out of the chambers and the motion expunged.

These are the 3 sets of people that will suffer the most if Biafra is granted:

1. People from Ebonyi state: they will be so marginalised and treated like shit, just as hey are treated now. They call them igbo Fulani.

2. The Igbo Muslim: they will be so persecuted that most of them might be hunted and plenty of them will run to the north to go and seek refuge. There will be no freedom of religion in the newly formed country.

3. The women: the women will be so trampled upon that most of them will be marrying people from other region. The woman will not have a voice in he new country. Even now that they are still in Nigeria, women don't get inheritance even when the court has granted the woman a forth of what the man gets. Don't you wonder why most feminist that hate men extremely in Nigeria are from south east.

What you see in others also exist in you.
