Is he not right? Shebi campaign will soon start. If I collect rice and groundnut oil make I see my picture anywhere 😂😂😂
Is it that you are dump or what? Filming people and posting it on the internet without their consent is what we are talking about here, and it is wrong. Filming people for political, religious, or similar purposes is different, because the people involved are already aware and are treated as having given their consent. It’s that simple.

Next time you physically fight your wife in the market see if anybody will seek your consent before you see it all over socisl media!
I read your comment and was blank for minutes because I didn't know how to react to such stupidity.

How exactly did you arrive at that comment with a functioning brain?

Jeez! I give up on this site, too many retarded folks.

Mr. Man how many times will you be told this. Someone comming to your occasion doesn't mean they give you permission to use their image for advertising, campaigning or such. If you use their image without their EXPLICIT permission they ought sue you and win serious money!

Okay, next time you see a politician sharing rice or sachets of spaghetti, go there, stand in the queue for minutes—or even hours—and collect your own. Then when you see the video on the internet the next day, go ahead and sue the politician because you didn’t give consent.

Dear Seun,

YOU ARE BEING SABOTAGED!!
(COMPLAINT ABOUT MOD erad)

I hope this post finds you well and thanks for Nairaland.
Please I want to bring to your attention that some of your mods hate this site and are intentionally sabotaging it.. They deliberately do things that they know will drive people away from the forum. That's why participation in the forum is now way down.

Take this erad guy for example. He intentionally uses bad language then promptly bans people when they use same exact language back at him. See his language above. He intentionally uses the R-word then promptly bans people if they use it. Then he bans people for absolutely no reason. I think the reason is to have them confused and frustrate them away from the site.
YOU ARE BEING SABOTAGED!!
He has banned me several times for absolutely no reason.
My opinion is, these kinds of people are like the enemy within. They DON'T wish the site well. They hate this forum and will definitely run it to the ground if you insist on keeping them around

Thanks for your attention and may Nairaland go from strength to strength.
Yours truly,
QuinQ

Do you even understand the point being made, or you just want to criticize for the sake of criticizing?
Honestly people seem to be going mad in this country! What exactly are you trying to protect your face from being shown for? Are you a wanted criminal or fraudster?

Do you understand the stupidity of requiring privacy in a public space? We used have such words as media-shy, paparazzi, public indecency, dress code etc to denote comportment in public spaces.

How many times have you challenged tv stations covering public events? Why should if be different for content creators?

What if the lady has been a reporter for channels tv covering the bus shortage situation that day?

If you demand such privacy put on a hijab before going out.

APC has really been a curse to this country!

Lol... Ignorance will be the end of you. You don't even know how nairaland works but you're quick to throw around accusations.

I'm a MOD in a particular section(arts & graphics). I only have the ability to ban you from that section or even do anything to you if it's on a thread in that section.

I'm not a super mod, they are the ones that have the power to ban on all sections and spam your comments on all sections.

So if you're getting banned because you replied to me, that has nothing to do with me. The anti-spam bot is probably getting triggered by some things in your comment.

The fact you even had to type out an epistle to further display your ignorance is just... lipsrsealed
Well, have a nice day.

You quoted me somewhere up there but it's hidden, so I'll respond to this in reference to that comment.

Always read to understand. It's crazy how educated people read something and comment something else trying to argue blindly. Infact, it's disgusting.

The warning has nothing to do with random videos of people walking around in public or things like that. It's talking about content creators specifically that do pranks or try to bait people into reactions. The person you're interacting with to create your content has to give their consent. Even people that interview others on road, the first question should be "can I post this video on my channel?" Naturally, you're making money with the reactions you get from these people and you not even asking them is setting yourself up for a compensation lawsuit in future.

Lets always try to understand context before displaying ignorance especially in public.

Stop flogging a dead horse eranko. Anyone with sense knows that social media coverage of a specific person be it as an interview or social media experiment has to involve consent by the shooter. That's not the locus of the post.

As for ndpc, they cannot do anything. If a person feels his privacy is infringed upon, he can approach the courts and test the strength of his case against the law.

But to try to stifle public advocacy is the name of privacy concerns is dead on arrival shikena!

Wow!!!! I can't believe you actually typed this with a straight face. I mean, this just happened, not as if it happened last week!
Wow again! So why did the super mod or bot suddenly stop banning me?? Bet you didn't think of that angle. You and I know what happened. YOU were banning me, directly or indirectly, for absolutely no reason. YOU and nobody else!

Then again I know this is not meant for me, because you know I know. I don't know what you gain intentionally destroying another man's business, someone that made you a mod! Anyway It's up to Seun how to handle you and people like you. I have done my part.
Nairaland will survive and thrive whether people like you like it or not!

These acts violate the rights of citizens to informational self-determination as guaranteed under S.37 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023 (NDP Act). what the hell is this? There is no expectation of privacy in a PUBLIC place. The best you could do is wear a mask. Which section of NDP ACT are they talking about. How social media process the information that users upload to thier site is different from IMAGE rights where any person that appear in the video can attempt to get a cut from the profit the video copyright holder for using the image. but the videographer still owns the copyright except they transferred to someone else.
U don't know what u are saying. A man sued coca cola in US and won because coca cola captured him without his consent drinking coke in a public place and put it in their commercial

When NTA and TVC goes on the streets for coverage and passers-by on the road are captured, did you declare them persona-non-grata? Did you preach to us about privacy?

If you are in public sphere you cannot claim privacy, as long as I did not come to your house to put a camera in your face.

Babatunde Bamgboye of the NDPC stop twisting narratives in order to victimize that young lady.

Nobody violate anyone's privacy in a public sphere.

You are the type of person, who would tell people not to record the illicit activities of policemen who extort and harass people in the public and check points.

You Tinubuists are too Feudo-monarchical and fascist, you will end up destroying this country soon..Continue.

NDPC Warns Content Creators To Respect Citizens’ Privacy

The attention of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has been drawn to the activities of individuals who take pictures and video footage of unsuspecting members of the general public and share same on social media platforms. These acts violate the rights of citizens to informational self-determination as guaranteed under S.37 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023 (NDP Act).

The particular case of a content creator who stands at roadsides in Lagos State to create a "reality show" of unsuspecting members of the general public raises concerns about abuse of rights in the name of entertainment. Processing the images of people, in this circumstance, requires consent unless the creator can justify her actions under other lawful bases of data processing. Preliminary investigation by the Commission reveals that this wilful invasion of citizens' privacy serves neither a public nor a legitimate interest. In any event, the data subjects involved have no expectation that their images will be captured and shared with the whole world by an unknown individual.

In the wake of this development, the National Commissioner/CEO of the Commission, Dr Vincent Olatunji, has directed platform owners (such as TikTok, X, and Meta) to step up enforcement of community guidelines with a view to preventing harm to individuals through unlawful and unfair processing of personal data.

For the avoidance of doubt, where a platform owner fails or neglects to act timeously in addressing harms, the Commission will not hesitate to impose appropriate sanctions under the NDP Act. More importantly, individual content creators are accountable for their acts and omissions, and may be liable to criminal prosecution for violating the privacy rights of citizens and other data subjects in Nigeria.
