From what you wrote....you joined a system and then want to change it. You would have similar problems in a corporation. Imagine you got a visa .. migrated to the US ...got a job in a store...packing shelves...a shoplifter comes in ..steals an item...puts it under his shirt. ...what will you do? ... as a no nonsense person confront him? ..yes? ...he pulls out a knife ..stabs you ... then what? Would the store be responsible?...no. why? ...you were not hired as security...you got involved in business that does not concern you You need to see yourself as a piece of the puzzle ...not the entire puzzle. If you understand that most private schools are not interested in educating the pupils/students.... they're interested in numbers....more students more money and will do whatever it takes to not lose any student. You hit a kid...the kid:s parents pulls him out of the school ..who loses?

You people need to calm down on these too much assignments!
Oga, it is the school that decides that , and not the employees(teachers).
Mathematics and English assignment is everyday. I mean everyday!

Education narrative in this era have moved from community inclusiveness training to cosmopolitan ignostic charlatans in the portal of condescending upheaval panaroma.

The fundamental and transformative change in our basic and widely accepted concepts, beliefs, or practices within our educational systems which includes the society or scientific discipline have been put aside or neglected with the view of westernizing some form of inherent attributes which really does not sit well with our system, thereby replacing an old way of thinking, discipline and corrective measures with a new one.

I actually work in a school but not as a teacher but more of an administrator with some expertise in safety awareness duties.

I interact with almost all the students in the school and all i can say for sure is that "There parents have a long way to go"

I have seen parent come to the school to fight teachers, I have seen parents shout at teachers why their child/children failed, I have seen newest but wack approach as to helping a student pass their text/exams, I have seen uncomfortable situation and pressure being laid on the teachers for students that are not even ready for anything all because of the profit which actually begs the question, that most private schools if not all are established solely for profits and not for instilling.

This paradigm shift will definitely catch up on everyone i mean every parents, if nothing is actually done to curb this anomalies.

A student about 13yrs in JSS 3 once said to me; is that phone you are using an iPhone?

Another one said how much is even your salary!

Another said beat me and i will tell my MUM! (Not actually beating anyone).

Another said you can't do nothing because i pay school fees (as if he is the one paying it from his pocket).

I hope and pray that everything thing the school authorities are running from will not later backfire.

Onegai:
Parents are to blame for this mostly, followed by the school and then by society.

Everything may be lawful but not everything is expedient that's what the Bible says.

In trying to be empathic parents whilst also living our own lives enjoying ourselves, we've dropped the ball.

Lord knows there are things I wanted my children to do, in trying to give them a break to rest from schoolwork, that my mum had to call me about and insist on discipline.

Private schools are run as businesses which means making a profit matters more than quality, so the Admin and owners prioritise paying students over teachers. Teachers also get frustrated and take it out on kids.

Nigerian society is deeply unhealthy.
But there exists a group of Nigerians who believe in raising their children in the country because of "morals". 🤣🤣
Re: Private Schools And Parents Are Failing. Morality Is Ebbing Away. by Gerrard59(m): 5:34pm On Mar 14
Anyway, as On.egai stated, these problems are ubiquitous because private schools - profit oriented - are now the biggest providers of secondary school education for the middle class (lower to upper) population.

In countries where the public school system is dominant for middle class families, there's a bit of discipline as the schools do not exist for profit purposes. Alternatively, target mission-based schools. This is where the Catholic Church wins, yet again.

I sure hope the first dark boy who assaulted the junior student with a belt was also expelled....cos ain't seen that video.

I must say these confrontations between seniors and juniors happen...(I and all my mates had our fair share in Command) but this one seemed excessive...more personal and they both deserved to be expelled

Malagans:
I read a post wherein a Student of a secondary school was expelled for Bullying his colleague. And that is what has informed my decision to write this.

Based on my observation, and the experiences I've had as a teacher, especially in private schools, parents are failing. There's a poor parental responsibility. This accounts for why many secondary school students are misbehaving.
The schools which are meant to correct these misdeeds are rather the ones compounding and encouraging their misdeeds, insolence, insubordination and misdemeanours.

A teacher gives mathematics assignments to students, some groups of students consistently fail to do these assignments, and you can't do anything about it. But the school continues to blame you for that. You ask them to submit their notes for marking, some will not submit, the school owners go round checking their notes to see if they are marked by the subject teachers, and when the notes aren't marked, the teacher gets scolded right in the presence of same students. Like how?. I'm taking about SS1-3 students.

Imagine a student telling a teacher that's he's broke that's why he can't afford an Android phone. The teacher buys a brand new Android phone afterwards, and same student says it's a fairly used phone.

Imagine a student telling a teacher that all his clothes are Okrika clothes and not Ready-made clothes.

Imagine a student telling his colleague that a particular teacher is Stupid and then the teacher overheard it. Yet, no action is taken by the school mgt.

Imagine a student telling a his colleague that a teacher's head looks like a shield.

As a teacher, you can't flog these students and you must be very careful of how you verbally react, because, your reaction is going to be used against you.

If a student commits an offence and you tell you're going to report to the school owners, they are happy because they already know nothing will be done to them.

Students now bring their android phones to sch knowing fully well that its a contraband.
Imagine students gisting themselves of how they watch porn on their phones. No matter how rich I become, I can never buy or allow my child to use an Android phone as long as they are still in secondary school. If they need to do an assignment online, I can lend them my phone. Android phone is a distraction.

I tried so hard to correct all these, but the school saw me as an enemy of the students. I was the best staff for two consecutive years, I was everywhere doing all I could for the school. Even on Saturdays and Sundays, I attend meetings on behalf of the school.

I was suppressed. I'm a no-nonsense kind of teacher. Very friendly, but strict. But somehow, I became a vegetable since I was restricted from doing what should be done.

One day, I got to work, I was really not comfortable any longer, during the break period, I told my boss that I was resigning and I handed over everything in my possession to them, cleared myself and left. Four days to payday, but I couldn't wait. My boss called to pacify me to reconsider my decision, but I said No.
Till date, I never regretted that decision . Parents(some) and my good students(some) still call to check on me.
I'm thankful to God for the lives I impacted. But right now, every passion I had for teaching is Gone. The passion is dead. School owners killed the passion.

My advise to young graduates should be to try as much as possible to learn a skill or two before graduation, so you can fall back to same skill(s) after graduation and earn a living with it. Do not go to any private school to teach, but if you must do so, do not stay there for Long. I repeat, Do not stay there for Long.

Children are difficult to control and take time to learn things. Everything highlighted in this write-up is a you problem. You surely entered the job to make ends meet. Anyone with the passion to train children would find means around them. There are a thousand ways to skin a [insert animal]. Insanity is the definition of doing the same thing repeatedly while expecting different results.
I hope you get the opportunity to teach adolescents and teenagers someday. If you can successfully find your way around them without any hiccups, we would give you a standing ovation. Talk is cheap.
