This is disgusting and hard to believe. Covenant University is very expensive though so what are they doing with all that money

A PhD on 100k salary Wtf. Is it not better to drive korope.

Daddy Oyedepo if this is true I beg you to reconsider you ways. Remember Jeremiah 22:13
He's busy using the money he's supposed to use for rewarding hard work to build the Ark.

Churches generally pay their workers peanuts. There are no exceptions. Some don't even expect you to ask for payments

I hope this is false because a php lecturer shouldn't earn less then 500k for starters depending of years of experience.

2ndly cannan land is not oyedepo's personal property it is church property. A non profit enitity. undecided
that was a professors salary in a federal institution as at then. The salary is not so different from federal and state, let's say 50k lower than federal, so it's OK. The fact that the guy has better things doing now does not mean he should mock his beginning.
Re: Phd Holder Shares Payslip From Time As Covenant University Lecturer by michoim(m): 2:30pm On Mar 15
Is not just to have PhD, how many years of experience does he have at that time also counts. Maybe has just one year or none...

I am not going to defend anyone but I know lecturers get some extra benefits. I am wondering why a lecturer will post his payslip, your personal information to prove what point? Back to the extra benefits, one of them will be housing. I don't know what the accommodation was. Some schools have staff quarters which is housing benefit and when people compare salaries, they forget that part. If you have children, they may go to that school free as a staff.

Their academic calendars typically include long breaks between semesters. Although lecturers still do some work during these periods, they usually have more downtime than many corporate roles. Compared with many private-sector jobs, lecturers may teach only a few hours per week. Much of the rest of the time can be self-scheduled. Outside exam periods, schedules can be relatively flexible.

Lecturers often have access to sports centers, libraries, staff clubs, campus transportation systems and other amenities that are usually free or very inexpensive.

When people compare lecturers’ salaries to private-sector salaries in Nigeria, they often ignore the cost savings from housing, schooling, healthcare, and utilities. Those benefits can reduce major household expenses that private-sector workers typically pay fully out of pocket.
Please, are you talking from experience or from what you feel it should be?
My dear, I once lectured at a mission owned college of education in Anambra. There was no extra means or benefits, but I was paid #40k while some lecturers at the institution were paid #25k & #30k.

Guess what? We were meant to bear because it's the lord's vineyard that we were cultivating grin grin grin
Re: Phd Holder Shares Payslip From Time As Covenant University Lecturer by nairalanda1(m): 2:41pm On Mar 15
I am going to defend Oyedepo, knowing that i regard his doctrine as false Christianity. and he is a money grubbing pastor.

But let's be honest. Lecturers in public universities earn fat salaries compared to private universities because their salary is not dependant on university revenue

Oyedepo fees may seem a lot, but compare to global standards , it's scanty. Remember the guy is also building more facilities for the university, has to pay for his own water and power supply, has to pay taxes , has to pay bills , and so forth.

In fact , if Oyedepo wanted to pay lecturers the same.money they pay government university lecturers, the fees would have to go as high as ten million naira

to train a Nigeriam student at a private elite university costs ten million naira per session.. Oyedepo is charging 2 million. See the problem.

If you are rich, and you want to set up a school, please please don't set up a university. It drinks money and demands for more

There was no time in history, be it 100 years ago, that 20 naira was greater than 5 million naira. Exaggeration is practically a lie!!!

immortalcrown:
Whether they pay was high or low depends on the period. There was a time that 20 naira was greater than 5 million naira of today.

Added:
Toxic and depressed people who look for every slight opportunity to attack their fellow human beings are attacking me as if I said something bad here. I do not have all the day to spend on this forum, that was why I did not pay attention to all the details on the posted pay slip. I simply said that whether the pay was good or poor depends on the period he earned the amount. Why not simply tell me that the pay was in 2024? Why are you quoting and attacking me as if I have said that the pay is good in 2024?

I am not supporting or defending anybody. Let us look at how much his counterparts in other universities were paid in that year.
You can't compare what their counterpart earn in others universities because of what covenant university collect as fees from each student which is even different and in many cases higher than most schools.

With the humongous amount of millions they charge as fees from each student, that salary is way too low for a PhD holder. To be fair to them, except if there are other perks that we don't know about like housing, insurance allowances and bonuses.

But if the pay was humongous you won't query why he posted his payslip because that would have buttress your view.
He didn't need to prove that he earned that amount with the payslip. That's the point but don't worry if you don't understand what I mean/t.

As a Level 9 Officer of LASG, my salary is just a few thousands shy of 300.
And my PhD and other 'degrees' are in-view.
Una dey enjoy for Lagos o! My salary as a level 14 officer with one of the state govts is roughly 200k. And me, I just got my PhD but dem nor even send you send your PhD. Thank God for side hustle and other streams of income....... Salary now na for giveaway and assistance

Re: Phd Holder Shares Payslip From Time As Covenant University Lecturer by Ironfaceman(op): 2:49pm On Mar 15
I taught of that too. But covenant University is fucking rich if they decide to start level 1 lecturers with 500k they won't go broke.

sonofthunder:
I believe this was his pay as a starting GA or something like that. I think I saw Covenant university salary structure for academic staff about 12+ years ago and it was reasonable.
He should clarify his experience and position, the image is not clear.

There's also a chance that he's taking advantage of the schools accommodation for staff.

But the amount on the payslip I'd say is poor
Re: Phd Holder Shares Payslip From Time As Covenant University Lecturer by razzydoo(m): 2:54pm On Mar 15
Which state? But then, it also depends on your designation.

Nothing is shameful in my comment. My comment would have been shameful if the year the man earnes the money was part of the caption of the post. My comment would have been shameful if I tried to deny the fact that I didn't pay attention to the pay slip. As the first responder pointed out the year the salary was earned, I quickly admitted that the pay was poor. Now, can you point out what is shameful in my comment?
Okay. Sorry. I understand.

States generally don't pay well. Aside Lagos State and maybe Delta state, no state in Nigeria pay well (I have seen Rivers State Civil Service Salary Structure and that of a few other states) and it is no much different from that of my state.

As for designation; yes, Health Workers (Ministry of Health), Lawyers (Ministry of Justice), Teachers (SUBEB), the Revenue Generating Ministry pay is significantly higher than that of other civil servants.... but generally, it is still poor.......

Anytime I receive salary alert, I go just burst laugh. 15+ years in service (work Wen person enter with Bsc o) and salary is still rubbing shoulders with 200k......

....anyways, once I clock 40, I don tender in my retirement letter........ I just dey hang around to see if person fit bear PS before then

Don't mind Lagos civil servants... Na them Dey enjoy most... Added to the fact most of them even have free transport to and from work everyday, plus Christmas largesse

Yet, you'll see most of them complaining about the government... Many of them are just ungrateful beings

Teaching is one of the underrated jobs I Nigeria... they'll keep saying a teacher reward is in heaven. Teach in a private school and see hell, the kids are neither not eager to learn or they're skeptical about the subject. Parents are not helping, school management isn't doing anything it's well.
I can relate, my bro.

Anyone who believes this is a FOOL.

Firstly, a PhD holder is never a Lecturer 2 but a senior lecturer.

Also, even if the payslip is not doctored, only reason why he may be getting as low as this is loans and several allowances which have been deducted.

Many educated people are not financially smart and sign up for every product and opportunity which their banks and employers throw at them leaving them poor at the end of their careers.

Or perhaps his situation is so pathetic that he had to hide his Master's and PhD and take up an offer that demanded a B. Sc. just to survive.
So as smart as you claim to be, you did not see the part that outlined the salary before any deduction..
secondly, how many B.Sc holders are lecturers in universities?
Please let’s call a spade a spade. We know paid employment is hard to come by but it shouldn’t be made to look ridiculous.

No matter the benefits, the fact that a PhD holder was earning 100k in a private university in 2024 is a red flag and should call for concern.

The summary of what you wrote is that just one student’s fee is enough to pay a lecturer for a whole year. That sounds like a good profit margin when you consider the number of students there.

I've searched but struggled to see it. A research professor was earning 10m+ annually.... It was really good although I know deductions and taking advantage of school accommodation will reduce it.

The guy probably was in the first year in an entry level role then left for a better position hence he's back to bad mouth them.

The overall pay was okay. Not spectacular.
