"UK-based Naija guy fills up 53 litres of petrol and pays £97... that's roughly ₦190,000 at today's rate! 😱 He shouts 'UK life is just suffering and smiling' and asks how much the same fuel costs back home in Nigeria right now.

Watch him react in real time + see why Nigerians online are dragging him hard (Minimum wage UK vs Naija comparison incoming...)
Current reality check (March 2026):

UK petrol ~£1.42/litre (avg)
Nigeria petrol ~₦1,000–1,200/litre (varies by state)
But UK minimum wage ~£1,000–1,200/month vs Nigeria ₦70,000/month
Is abroad really suffering or selective comparison? Drop your thoughts below!

I hope they don't try to use this to justify the high cost of Petrol in Nigeria

Nigeria produces about 1.6 million barrels of oil daily. It costs them little to nothing. The oil companies pay for the expenses of drilling, and take about 40% of the oil as compensation according to the agreement. Either party can do whatever they want with their share of the oil.

It’s like an empty plot of land you inherited. A farmer comes along and agrees with you to farm on the land with his own tools and workers, and you both share the proceeds of the harvest 60 : 40.

Nigeria’s share of the oil is about 900,000+ barrels daily. Nigerians consume only about 300,000 barrels daily.

If Nigeria chooses to sell 300,000 barrels of crude to local refineries at the $50 budget benchmark, local refineries can sell petrol to Nigerians at the regular price. The Iranian war will not affect Nigerians.

Nigeria still has 600,000+ barrels of crude to export or sell at the prevailing international price.

I am putting this information out there so that you can ask your politicians the right questions and put pressure on them to do the right thing.

Dullards have come again o

1. Minimum wage is NOT NGN70,000. After allowances added, it comes to NGN110,000

2. Many Nigerians earn far more than minimum wage(bankers, telcom workers, oil company workers etc etc).

Nigeria is sweet.

If you are earning at least 4 times what you were earning before Tinubu became president, you are good to go.

Go to filling stations and see queues...

Is not just the Fuel prize. From what he is saying, another inflation has come like double inflation, first trigger was Ukraine and now second second trigger the strait of Hurmuz.

What happens when one of the major route for shipping crude oil is blocked. Most of the ships carry crude oil or refined oil to major consumers like Europe, USA and China. Crude oil is used in other industries to make pharmaceuticals, fertilizers, natural gas, and more. Without enough supply, the price goes up, and other industries are affected.

Although Saudi Arabia, has created an alternative route, but it would take a long time to build infrastructure to match demand.

Therefore we are looking at another recession. Less Jobs, more costs in general. So it is not just fuel, its food, accomodation, transportation, Medical care etc.

Things are still cheaper in Nigeria than most of these western countries, the only difference is the opportunity to get job and get good pay which are available over there than our country.

Diesel is for efficient than petrol. You cover roughly 30% more distance over petrol.

That’s the stinginess I am talking about. Trying to get every penny out of their money.

Why should I be driving a diesel sedan when I am not towing with it.
