Separatist groups in Pakistan's Balochistan province, notably the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), have publicly welcomed recent US-Israeli military strikes on Iran.

In a statement, the groups urged the attackers to be "more effective, coordinated and result-oriented.”

👉 The endorsement comes amid a major surge in militant violence. In late January and early February 2026, the BLA orchestrated one of the deadliest insurgent campaigns in Balochistan in recent years. In coordinated assaults across multiple districts, militants targeted government installations, killing approximately 36 civilians.

In response, Pakistani security forces launched large-scale counter-insurgency operations. According to official reports, the operations resulted in the deaths of at least 216 militants, while 22 security personnel were also killed.

Balochistan, a resource-rich but underdeveloped region, is home to the Baloch people, an Iranian-speaking Sunni ethnic group. The region is divided across three countries:

🔴 Pakistan: Home to the largest Baloch population, estimated at around 12 million.

🔴 Iran: Hosts approximately 5 million Baloch, primarily in its Sistan and Baluchestan province.

🔴 Afghanistan: Includes a Baloch population of about 3 million.

Both Iran and Pakistan face ongoing insurgencies from various Baloch separatist groups. These organizations share the proclaimed goal of carving out an independent "Greater Balochistan" from the territories they inhabit.
