But one thing I know about yoruba Muslims and Southern Muslims as a whole is that they have never taken directives from the Sultan of sokoto. Never! If the Sultan sites his moon today, the Yoruba musiim leaders would site their own a day before or a day after. actually not true same longitude and different latitudes will definitely make the sighting of new moon different, also there are scientific ways, satellites that can determine when the moon will be sigthed in a 10meters square any where on earth.. This religious leaders are just doing all this to stay relevant.. The date of eid is written on Islamic calendar already any other announcements is just peageantry.. Just like call for prayers and church bells.. It should be obsolete doing that.. Now that there is clocks and watched what's the use of a maranet in a mosque or something shouting call to prayers.. It's primitive.

Don't you understand English or is it Geography you're confused with
Nigeria and Niger fall within the same equatorial line. In fact, Niger even has a wider latitude and longitude than Nigeria's but the both have same line passing through them. This in effect means we're in the same time zone and since we both lie in the sub saharan tropical region, we have almost equal chance of seeing the moon same time. So a moon sighted in Niger is very valid for Nigeria.
