I'm not sure Iran is elite, but they do have leverage which makes them a power.
They have shown why every other President was right to choose the path of diplomacy.
Until the US gets serious about renewable energy, Iran will always have us by the balls.
But the US is also beholden to the oil and gas companies so not sure how we square that circle.

As a Nigerian American I would prefer no other country have nuclear weapons but the US.
But it is hard to dictate to other countries that they can't have Nuclear weapons when you have one and Israel does as well.
We have to get serious as well about nonproliferation treaties.

Islam itself was 'imposed' to culturalise what could be termed as the less culturalised, at it's time of 'imposition'. The major outcome of its spread was to create a common, and mostly better, culture than they hitherto had where women counted for not much at all all over the earth at the time. By this I mean the spreaders of Islamic culture spread around the would their own culture which they perceived to be better, which they necessarily would if just for the fact it made them more profit. It also brought large communities under the same umbrella so their neighbours were no more their enemies so trade could flow better and more money be made. This can easily be verified by checking the growth of trade spread by Islam.

This spread involved the education of people, just as Christianity spread 'education' amongst we Nigerians. Unfortunately, [bad] traditions have a way of thriving when profit undermines the education that attempts to eradicate it. And my favorite, men are pigs who refuse to learn so must be compelled.

One issue with Islam, and other Abrahamic and most ancient religions and cultures and traditions, is patriarchy, which has historically placed women beneath men, and is a ceiling even the Church of England only recently broke, but specific to Islam is it waiting too long to have a Martin Luther moment whereby the Quran is translated to the local languages of its readers. One must concede that Islam is indeed being used to oppress women. But women who do read, in these days of positive promotion of girls, the verses you quote telling their husband to beat them, are the ones who will stop their husbands beating them because a woke woman will not allow her husband to beat her.

Anyway. And forgive my waffle. The answer to your question, bar "prominent" which it isn't, is, those so called Moslems who read their Quran and beat their wives have simply not evolved yet to become like the majority who don't. And as is said in Islam, Allah is Just and Wise.

There are not many countries in the world that can, under US and Israel bombardment, still manage to

1. Wipe multiple US bases off the map over several countries,
2. Degrade America's capability to wage war by destroying early-warning radar systems over half the continent,
3. Shoot down US reaper drones and now F35s,
4. Reduce all GCC countries to puppets and sitting ducks,
5. Strangle and threaten the US' entire carrier strike fleet, forcing them to fall behind Iranian missile attack range.
6. Threaten US economic stability by attacking the very anchor of the petro-dollar......
7. Force Israel and the US to beg for military assistance from other countries.
7. Manage to reverse decades of economic sanctions during the war.......

....all at a fraction of cost it would take the US to do the same.

This is elite.



On the subject of Nuclear weapons, I don't like it either. I am nonproliferation to the core. But in the face of tyranny, nothing beats deterrence like Mutually Assured Destruction. If they don't get the bomb, the US, the Israel lobby within it, and Israel itself will never stop.

If Israel will not even admit having nuclear weapons and submit to the NPT, then even Nigeria should get one of they can.
