exactly. When Chris talked about quick reaction, I thought of Fernandez in Taremi's goal rebound

TheSuperNerd:
Fernandez lost Taremi for the goal. Nwaiwu ducked away from the aerial battle that got the ball to Taremi.

That was Fernandez! It was clear as day!
Papi85:

I would like to see Fernandez again, partner Nnaiwu against Jordan. Ogbu and Ajayi are proven back ups.

Ajayi is not a back up o
Bassey and Ajayi are our starting CBs now

Iran is number 20th in World! We have to take that into consideration. This is not Lesotho or DR Congo or South Africa. This is the 2nd/3rd best team in Asia!
ThunderFireAgba:
First cap New Defenders, Nwaiwu & Fernandez gave decent game..not minding the little mistake here and there, I will rate their performance a good 5/10. Compare this to Fedrick Benjamin outstanding first game against Jamaica which is at a Solid 8.5/10.

Is it transfer market ceiling that determines our starters?
It does in football.
We can't have a Fernandez playing regularly for Bayern Munich and because Fredrick playing for Dender seem better than him, Fernandez will always be on the bench. Because of him the SE coach can change his formation to 3 defence to accommodate all of them

Explain Nwabali and Okoye then

Well yea thinking Ajayi vs Benjamin. Let's just agree Ajayi is the more established player in the SE set up in terms of longevity combined with recent performance.

I understand Chief.
When Benjamin comes back, it may take him time to get to his usual levels
And except we play friendlies, we may never really get to see him play for awhile, especially if all these CBs gel with the team

Ajayi is nearing 33. He won't make it past next AFCON! And when, Ajayi was fit, Benjamin played RB with Aina playing LB.

Even Ola Aina has a real fight to dislodge Osayi now
The shirt is now Osayi's to lose

until then and until his form drops. Remember Ekong.

The way many of us underrated Igoh Ogbu in this thread is heartbreaking.

To me after the starting duo of Bassey and Ajayi the next is Igoh. Una fit hype whosoever una like as the number 1 before even Bassey but Igoh have really impressed me from the first day he put on the jersey of the super eagles

He is calm on the ball, knows when to jump in and out of tackles and very clean and tidy in doing that, he is dominant aerially, he has pace and a good passer of the ball

The guy is highly underrated here

his perfect replacement for now is Igoh Ogbu . I won’t say Fernandez nor Nwaiwu because they need more games to prove they will be perfect replacement for ageing Ajayi
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by fabyom: 4:30pm On Mar 27
And whenever, Ajayi is fit, Benjamin played RB with Aina playing LB when fit. E.g SA away!

so you will prefer to start Benjamin as RB when Osayi is fit?

Ogbu is good, but Benjamin just has that swag of an eilte CB!

I’m not the only one but I don’t really make that rush when it comes to hyping players

No doubt benji is a huge talent but Ogbu has more exposure and experience than him in the game. Ogbu have held his own in the UCL and UEL every season. In football experience and exposure matters a whole lot and evident in the bigger stage

Truth
But Benjamin is a generational talent
You no see wetin the guy do Auba against Gabon?
If that was not exposure and experience, then what else is?

How many high profile games are we going to play that would be higher than those last few games of the world cup qualifiers?

Love and promote Ogbu, nothing wrong with that
But as far as the SE is concerned, Benji is ahead
And it's only if he flops that others will start before him
Infact if not for match fitness, benji would walk right into our 11 and bench Ajayi
