**benalvino3 makes more sense overall in this specific debate about slavery and the recent UN resolution.** His arguments are more factually grounded, less emotionally charged, and better highlight the selective historical narrative and hypocrisy involved. bayelsaowei raises some valid historical distinctions but ultimately defends a one-sided blame game that downplays African agency and fits the reparations-focused framing of the resolution.

### Quick context from the Nairaland pages (March 2026 thread)
The debate kicks off on page 5829 when benalvino3 shares a video of an African American woman defending Ghana amid protests over President John Dramani Mahama’s push for a UN resolution. The resolution (passed March 25, 2026) declares the **transatlantic slave trade** (and its “racialized chattel enslavement” of Africans) “the gravest crime against humanity,” calls for reparations/reparatory justice, and passed with 123 votes in favor, 3 against (US, Israel, Argentina), and 52 abstentions (including the UK and EU).

bayelsaowei jumps in calling critics “resident racist defenders” and labeling the resolution’s focus on transatlantic slavery correct because it was uniquely massive, racialized, and impactful. benalvino3 pushes back hard: Africans (especially in places like Ghana/Nigeria) captured and sold the slaves; Europeans mostly bought what was supplied; other slave trades (e.g., trans-Saharan/Arab) were longer/brutal too; and it’s nonsense to single out only the transatlantic version while ignoring African complicity.

The argument continues on page 5830 with direct exchanges:
- bayelsaowei: “Transatlantic slave trade remains the most famous and most impactful… Why does it pain you when slavery and racism is attributed to those who are guilty of it?” Later: “the transatlantic system enhanced it to become a grounded highly racialised conduit… on an industrial scale… European demand built… the owners… take more of the blame.” He accuses benalvino3 of “heaping blames on your forefathers whilst exonerating your white gods” and says if you blame Africans fully, “start bleaching your skin.”
- benalvino3: “No white man made a black man a slave, they bought them… People who make slaves and sold them are blaming the people who bought the product.” He points out slavery predated Europeans by centuries, Africans were capturing/selling their own, trans-Saharan was worse, and the resolution is a “popularity contest” that ignores who actually supplied the slaves (citing Ghanaian slave dungeons/ports as evidence).

### Why benalvino3’s position holds up better
1. **African complicity in the supply side is undeniable and central** — benalvino3 repeatedly asks the right question: *Who captured and sold the people?* Historical records (Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade Database, accounts from European traders, and African oral histories) show that European ships rarely raided inland themselves after the early years. African kingdoms and traders (Ashanti, Dahomey, Kongo, etc.—including in modern Ghana and Nigeria) waged wars/raids specifically to capture people and sold them at coastal forts for guns, cloth, rum, etc. This was not passive; it was active, profitable participation. Europeans created the *demand* and organized the Atlantic shipping/plantations, but without African sellers there is no trade at that scale. benalvino3’s “they bought the product” framing is crude but directionally correct.

2. **The UN resolution *is* selective and politically one-sided** — bayelsaowei treats the resolution’s focus on transatlantic slavery as obviously justified (“most famous and most impactful”). benalvino3 correctly calls this out as a “popularity contest.” The resolution explicitly singles out the transatlantic trade for its “scale, duration, systemic nature, brutality and enduring consequences” and “racialized regimes.” That racial/chattel/industrial aspect and its link to the African diaspora in the Americas *is* distinctive. But declaring it *the gravest crime against humanity ever* ignores:
- The Arab/trans-Saharan slave trade (estimates 10–18+ million Africans over ~13 centuries, plus European “white slaves,” with castration of males and extremely high desert mortality).
- Intra-African slavery.
- Other massive atrocities (Mongol conquests, Mao’s China, WWII Holocaust, etc.).
The resolution was pushed by Ghana—an African nation whose historical kingdoms profited from selling slaves—and calls for reparations. benalvino3’s point about Ghanaians/Africans now opposing certain reparations demands (while pushing this narrative) exposes the inconsistency.

3. **Tone and reasoning** — bayelsaowei relies more on moral outrage, accusations of racism/“white gods,” and ad-hominem (“start bleaching your skin”). benalvino3 stays focused on the factual questions: Who captured? Who sold? Why ignore other slaveries? He concedes Europeans bought and transported but refuses to let suppliers off the hook. That’s clearer reasoning.

### Where bayelsaowei has a partial point
The transatlantic trade *was* uniquely scaled for capitalist plantation economies, racialized as hereditary chattel slavery, and left a visible diaspora and legacy in the Americas. European powers (Portugal, Britain, France, Spain, Netherlands) financed, insured, and industrialized the Middle Passage horrors. Demand from the New World drove the volume (~12.5 million embarked, ~10.7 million arrived). Responsibility is *shared*, not equal—and benalvino3 sometimes overstates seller guilt. But bayelsaowei’s framing still absolves the supply side too much and treats the UN resolution as unassailable truth rather than selective politics.

**Bottom line**: benalvino3 is pushing back against a common modern narrative that treats Africans solely as victims and Europeans solely as villains. That narrative serves reparations politics (as the Ghana-led resolution shows), but it doesn’t match the full history. Slavery was a human universal; the transatlantic version was horrific but not uniquely so in a vacuum. Acknowledging African agency doesn’t excuse European profiteering—it just demands intellectual honesty. benalvino3’s side of the exchange does that better here.

In all of these you have not had a word for the Arab who are still taking black people as slaves till today

In 2026 Arabs are still taking slaves but that is not your concern.
Arabs took black people as slaves for 1000yrs before Europeans. That does not concern you
Arabs took more black saves than European. That does not concern you
Arabs are still taking black slaves today. That does not concern you
There you go again.

How does your question negate the facts about the transatlantic slave system that systematically enslaved our forefathers?

Slavery in its entirety isn’t acceptable. So if my body tells me to highlight that which was perpetrated by the white Europeans, why does it bother you?

Tomorrow I can and will focus on that being perpetrated by Arabs.

Why not focus on abolishing all slavery that is still going on today
Condemn ALL slavery that ever happened

Why giving ONE form of slavery a pass

Those our forefathers taken to Arabia, are they less important than those taken to the Americas

Why choose the Europeans or America if you believe in its entirety it is unacceptable? We are complaining that the resolution is one-sided. We believe it is unacceptable for everyone not to be selective in blame.

Don't you see the logical fallacies in your arguments?

The the irony that is the people who captured and sold them are asking for reparations from the buyers.

Its like saying killing in Nigeria, In my state and my street to people I know does not upset me as the ones happening in Iran Gaza, Israel Russia etc

Ghana should be talking about ending this
Slavery still going on

You will be quiet till you can blame Trump or America for the atrocities in the Arab world.

This is what the rest of the world thinks of us and the sane people in the US are sad about this, but we do understand.

In any relationship, if trust is broken it can’t be rebuilt overnight. The USA has lost allies, thrown away trade deals. The rest of the world has built alliances elsewhere. If the people of the USA think when this is over we’ll come running back, they’re insane. There will always be the thought that ‘They’ve done it to us not once, but TWICE. They won’t get another chance’. The world order has changed, possibly forever. One man did that.

You must also believe that person on tiktok has more than the one vote that most have I guess, but more intriguing is the immense maga love for Vivek.

Most of us can articulate polices. You just stick your fingers in your ears so you can lie to yourself you never heard.

Or do you want to claim you've never heard of say, free school meals for under 12s, and the so called Obamacare, and release Epstein files, and defund ICE, to list just a few?

Personally, I think you gops might be due a thrashing, so must depict Democrat voters as brainless because your desperation can't let you say immigrants are the ones eating your votes as that would involve recognising dump failed to keep migrants out or migrants weren't voting to start with.

Sound bites are great but they are not thought out policies until you are asked to show how you will implement it sustainably given the conditions

Free meals for Under 12 sounds great then they ask you how do you fund it sustainably. More govt spending which comes from taxpayers, Are you willing to pay more taxes for this. Then it dawns on them

Obamacare same thing, How do you fund it. Like we have seen with Obamacare, the premium kept rising and needed more govt subsidies. Where do govt subsidies come from? Taxes, are you willing to pay more? Then the light bulb goes off

Epstein file is not a policy. I am sure you know what policies are. Or what was the last Democratic policy on Epstein file?

Defund ICE, Great, then what happens to illegals who try to enter the country. Which body will stop an enforce border laws. Or should we remove all border laws regarding entering the country illegally? Should we have a limit on all who enter or anyone who wants to enter should be allowed? Thats when the reality hits

Its at this point that they start seeing the foolishness in the policy they support and they turn it into I just support the Democrats

A party getting trashed is nothing new, Almost every sitting presidents party get trashed n mid terms dating back 100yrs

If you have been paying attention long enough you will know this or be familiar with the 2010 shellacking of Obama

I hope anyone who pays this fee knows they’re not getting it back. They’ll just join the list of people who have been scammed by this con man

Fans from several countries participating in this summer’s World Cup must deposit up to $15,000 in bond payments to be granted a tourist visa to enter the United States, while organizer FIFA is privately pressing the Trump administration to make exemptions for players.

The difficulties have emerged as nationals from certain countries travelling to the U.S. on a business or tourist visa — known as B-1 and B-2 visas — have been subject to bond payments after policy changes by President Donald Trump’s administration.

US degrading Irans ability to make nuclear weapons which can hurt Americans benefit Americans by making them more secure. The country is less secure when the nation who chants death to America gets nuclear weapons

Trans Saharan lasted much longer but is generally agreed to have taken less people overall. Estimates range between six and ten million while Trans Atlantic was over 12 million confirmed.
