.” Another questioned the cleric’s claim, stating, “Where in Igbo culture is this?

Odumeje is correct in the assertion that Igbo culture and traditions accepts a child born into a family as a member of the family.

A woman may become pregnant for her concubine and the child may clearly resemble the concubine after birth yet the official husband will own the child, DNA or no DNA.

If a young lady gives birth at home without marriage the child belongs to her father and family, unlike in other tribes were a boyfriend or concubine can lay claim to a child whose mother he did not marry. That never happens in Igboland unless the woman's family wants to dodge responsibility.

"Iko adighi akporo nwa" is an official Igbo culture and traditions

What would you do in such situation?
What if the child becomes a celebrity?
I have no issue with the child but the culprit.

The child public image depends on how the mother handles the situation.

You won't expect me to act cool and understanding when there is scientifically proven evidence in my custody that the child is not biologically related to me and the mother is still denying or trying to play on my intelligence. Mind you, I won't jump into conclusion until maternity test is also conducted. If eventually it is positive that the child belongs to her while my paternity result is negative, I need some disclosure. Otherwise, the child image might be at risk regardless of whether he/she is a celebrity or not.

Where the mother is not alive, she won't rest in peace.

Based on Igbo culture and traditions, Odumeje is correct. Any child born by a woman that the dowry you paid on her head has not been returned to her parents is yours
There are no illegitimate children in Igbo culture.

Baxtards are an integral part of the Igbo culture.

Odumeje on point. Igbos are not so obsessed with our wives loyalty. We allow our wives to enjoy some away matches as we also do.

That's why women need to be discreet in such situations. They must not tell the other man who got them pregnant when they want to pin the pregnancy on their husbands. If the impregnator is not aware, there won't be problem in the future.

Re: “Avoid DNA Tests” — Odumeje by SporaD8:

This is what I have been saying in the issue. In many parts of Nigeria, especially Igbo tribe, any child born in a marriage belongs to the husband regardless of paternity. Even if the couple are separated and the wife got pregnant by another man during the separation, such child belongs to the husband unless bride price has been returned to the wife's family. In some cases, if the man died after marriage without his own child, the wife is encouraged to get pregnant from outside in order that the family does not close.
Enlighten me on the bolded - How is bride pride returned to the wife's family? Or you mean the wife's family returned bride price to the man?
Since it's men that paid bride price, I'm really confused with that statement.

Re: “Avoid DNA Tests” — Odumeje by kakaG: 8:20pm On Mar 28
I don't blame these people for spewing thrash Everytime. It is their type that impregnates other people wives and preach no DNAs on their alters to avoid being caught.

In modern times DNAs are very important if not for anything for Father's to know they probably are doing another man a favor by training their children.

Is it not in the first place wickedness for a woman to get pregnant for another man and force the child on you? You will then suffer all your life trying to make ends meet for that child and one funny day she will still say what have you every done for me if an argument arises.

Women are wicked demons

Just because Igbo culture allows men to claim b@stard children as theirs based on bride price doesn't mean others will accept such.

Every right thinking man should reject b@stard children. Go for DNA biko!
There is no concept of bastard in Igbo culture.

Infact, there is no Igbo word for 'bastard'. Every child belongs to a family or community.

I know it's somehow. But he speaks true.
That's a reflection of personality.
On several POVs of the positive side.
You get peace.
Live long.
Have heir.
Experience parenthood.
Get some one to care for you when you older.
Giving love and feeling loved. And many more.

To me.
The essence of DNA testing(commonly) is to justify cheating.

Justify cheating?? How??

no man can be happy his wife denied him the chance of having his own child but deceptively made him raised another man’s ….. unless the man is impotent without cure….
So all these “he speaks true”
“the child ur wife born under ur roof is ur own” is just emotional blackmail and a coward’s compensation for being afraid to confront the truth

He is not even well informed about the igbo culture there are so many igbo communities in igboland that cheating on the part of the wife is a taboo which attracts death on the husband and his children.
