Good day fellow Nairalanders, Please I need help,I just bought this Chevrolet Aveo 2010 Nigerian use though the car is very sound and I have done the necessary servicing of the vehicle but I notice the car consume too much fuel for a 4plug.Imagine a 20k fuel from sandfill Oniru to Ikotun and I’m already on empty tank and also it displays a hold sign on the dashboard which I have tried to turn off beside the gear but it doesn’t go off.
A scan report with Data stream analysis would be needed to give you better insights on what to do.

However, it's important you note that the amount of fuel in liters is a better measure rather than price with current price fluctuations.

Here are a few things that make a car generally consume fuel:
1. Use of AC
2. Length of time spent in traffic with Engine running
3. Length of the journey
4. Engine health.
5. Tyres and Suspension health

We most times worry about number 4 while paying less attention to the others.

I use a 2014 Honda crosstour
The check engine light popped up
I scanned and got a P0420 and P0430 error code
I bought and installed all those O2 sensor adaptors on the upstream O2 sensor for bank 1 and 2.
The error code is still there
pls I need help here
You might want to confirm
1. The cats are good
2. There's no leak in the exhaust line
3. Properly monitor the STFT and LTFT readings.

My 2013 Ford Edge battery drains every night even when I ensure everything including the lights are turned off, please what could be the cause.
Possible culprits:
1. Leak from sunroof
2. Bad car phone charger plugged in overnight
3. Internal Telematics unit fault
4. Shorts to G Roy somewhere

First Stop? Have it scanned. Also confirm your Battery is good by removing one terminal overnight.

Good afternoon everyone…please my car Camry 2013 just show ABS light, Traction Control light and parking Brake light all together on the dashboard….please what could cause this and what should be the solution and who will be the technician to repair it…mechanic or Rewire
When a Toyota displays Brake and TSC lights, it might actually be a warning sign of an emissions issue from the engine. It could as well be an indication of fault in the brake system.

Way out:
1. Confirm there are no drivability or obvious emissions issues.
2. Have it scanned so you at least have an idea of what's going on.
3. Rectify the issue.

Good day gurus in the house

My car Honda accord 2012 is shorting oil badly and no leakages anywhere, then i notice when I start it in the morning it brings out whitish/blue smoke 💨 for like 2 minutes then disappears. If I change oil now in less than 1 week it’s already very low
Likely culprits:

1. Worn Valve Stem in Top Cylinder
2. Worn Piston rings in Bottom Cylinder
3. Faulty PCV system

For the first 2, the engine requires an overhaul.

Further physical checks required to ascertain.

Please my Hyundai Elantra 2017 just goes off in motion without any warning but comes immediately back on like nothing happened when I restart it. The car doesn't overheat. And it drives normally after going off. The first time it happened, I was in traffic for a very long time and I felt that was it. But it has happened two more times in the space of 1 week. What could be the issue and how can I solve it?
All I can think of for now is the idle speed went below minimum. A poor performance assessment would be a good start.

Guys, please I need your advice. The transmission of my Rx350 2013 is slipping. It stalled at the second gear. I took it for a scan and it threw up fault code P0715 (input Turbine/speed control sensor A). A gear master has changed this sensor and the car now selects all 6 gears. But I discovered that it still slips between gear 1 and 2. It easily selects other gears. The gear master is advising me to change the TCM that it might be the culprit. We have scanned and rescanned and there's no more fault codes from the gear. I read on Google that we need to reset the TCM, yet, the gear master says he has calibrated the car. I'm a little at lost on what to do next. Kindly advise.
The Transmission control is integrated into the ECU( brain box) except if what He meant is the valve body. This sounds more like an internal Transmission problem.

That can either be a damaged vvt solenoid, vvt pressure sensor or wrong timing.

Good afternoon sir.

Thank you for sharing your concern. Excessive fuel consumption on a Lexus ES330 should always be investigated properly, especially when the Check Engine Light has been on for a long time. Let’s address this step by step so you avoid unnecessary expenses and guesswork.

🔎 Professional Diagnostic Insight

Vehicle: Lexus ES330
Primary Complaint: Very high fuel consumption
Observation: Check Engine Light constantly ON

One very important rule with modern vehicles is this:

If the Check Engine Light is on, the engine management system has already detected a fault.
Until that fault is properly diagnosed and corrected, the vehicle will not operate at optimal fuel efficiency.

So the first concern here is not the tyre size — it is the active engine fault stored in the ECU.

1️⃣ Check Engine Light Must Be Scanned Properly

When a technician says “nothing is wrong” while the Check Engine Light is still on, it usually means one of two things:

• The vehicle was not scanned with a proper diagnostic tool, or
• The stored fault codes were not interpreted correctly

A professional scan should retrieve the exact fault code, such as:

• Oxygen sensor faults
• Air–fuel ratio sensor problems
• Catalytic converter efficiency issues
• Mass airflow sensor inaccuracies
• EVAP system leaks

Any of these can significantly increase fuel consumption.

2️⃣ Oxygen Sensor / Air–Fuel Ratio Sensor

On the Lexus ES330, one of the most common causes of excessive fuel consumption is a failing oxygen sensor or air–fuel ratio sensor.

When this sensor sends incorrect readings:

• The ECU injects more fuel than necessary
• Fuel mixture becomes too rich
• Fuel economy drops drastically

The engine may still sound smooth and show no smoke, which is why the issue can easily be overlooked.

3️⃣ Mass Airflow Sensor (MAF) Contamination

Another frequent cause is a dirty or failing Mass Airflow Sensor.

This sensor measures the amount of air entering the engine. If the readings are inaccurate:

• The ECU miscalculates fuel delivery
• Fuel consumption increases significantly

This fault may also trigger the Check Engine Light.

4️⃣ Tyre Size Consideration

You mentioned the vehicle is running on 17-inch tyres.

While larger tyres can slightly affect fuel economy due to increased rolling resistance, they will not cause extreme fuel consumption on their own.

So the tyre size is not likely the primary cause of your problem.

⚠️ Important Observation

Since the Check Engine Light has been on since you got the vehicle, it is possible that the issue has simply been ignored for a long time.

Modern Lexus engines rely heavily on sensor feedback for fuel control, so any faulty sensor can easily cause the vehicle to consume far more fuel than normal.

📌 What Should Be Done First

Before replacing any parts, the correct approach is:

1️⃣ Perform a full engine diagnostic scan
2️⃣ Retrieve the exact fault codes stored in the ECU
3️⃣ Analyze live data from sensors (O2 sensors, MAF, fuel trims)
4️⃣ Confirm whether the engine is running too rich or too lean

Only after this process can the correct repair be determined.

🎯 Professional Take

Your situation strongly suggests a sensor-related engine management issue, which is one of the most common reasons for excessive fuel consumption on this model.

The good news is that many of these problems are relatively straightforward to fix once the correct fault code is identified.

Guesswork or random part replacement should be avoided.

🏢 Ryan Automotive Limited Recommendation

The most important step now is a proper computerized diagnostic scan to retrieve the exact reason the Check Engine Light is on.

Once the stored fault code is identified, the repair can be targeted and cost-effective, instead of replacing parts unnecessarily.

If you are able to bring the vehicle down, Ryan Automotive Limited performs professional engine diagnostics and fuel system analysis to accurately determine the cause of excessive fuel consumption and restore proper performance.

😂 My brother, instead of focusing so much energy on me, it might be better to focus on giving accurate solutions to people who genuinely need help with their cars.

Everyone here is free to share opinions, but when it comes to vehicles, incorrect advice can actually cause people to damage their cars or spend unnecessary money. That’s why some of us prefer to approach things from a proper diagnostic and professional standpoint.

I actually find it interesting how you and a few others keep mentioning me. No hard feelings though — it’s all love. ❤️

Just remember that when people search online for vehicle problems, they’re looking for practical solutions, not confusion. The goal should be helping car owners, not misleading them.

So let’s keep the discussion productive and helpful for readers.

As for me, I’ll focus on my work and continue expanding the workshop side of things. Wishing you the best.

Hi, everyone.

I’m really grateful for how anytime we come for advise here someone is always ready to assist.

I have come once again as regards a colleagues car which is to be fixed. It is a Toyota matrix.

The mechanic sent the following bill to us.

I want to know if the price is fair in view of the current market prices.

I’m also skeptical about the steering rack: I always hear things like when steering rack is faulty, it cannot be fixed

Also, gear oil for 45,000 naira. Is that not a fake gear oil.

I’ll be grateful for a requote.

Thank you so much.

It's important you first recall that Fuel prices have increased and thus consumption comparison is best done wrt liters of fuel bought and not the amount.

A few components to be checked during Diagnostics are:
1. O2 sensors
2. Exhaust leak
3. Misfire
4. Blocked inlet
5. Blocked exhaust
