Hi , please is Nigerian still eligible for the J1 visa
,ban on visa issuance covers B,F,M and J visas so no right now no J visas for those with Nigerian passports. Unless your J visa could be considered as national interest ( check the exemptions of 10998 proclamation)
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 18 by SpyChild: 4:57pm On Feb 19
Please any insight if the new B1/B2 visa rule on bond has taken effect if approved?

My friend's F-1 visa was approved recently but according to her about 80% of those who had visa appointment at the same time with her were denied
Please have they lifted the ban on F1 visa

Ban is still in place.
You'll hear from the government when it's lifted. Look elsewhere for now. The ban is expected to be reviewed in June and during this review, we expect Nigeria to be removed from the list like Turkmenistan if not already delisted by then. I have a strong conviction that Nigeria would be delisted before the visa application circle for Fall 2027 given the swift response from this administration.

This thread is at its slowest pace ever. Hopefully things change soon and more students can get study/immigration opportunities!

Continue with the interview, however proclamation 10998 by President Trump still stands till it's lifted.

Please I want to ask, for those of us that got an interview date before the restriction, like I had a date for March for F1 visa, can we still go for the interview?

Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 18 by Olawrites: 6:17pm On Mar 13
Will the Partial Ban be lifted in June or December 2026?

There is no announced review date. Policies like this are usually lifted only if:
1. Security and information-sharing concerns are resolved.

2. Diplomatic negotiations between Nigeria and the U.S. succeed.

3. A new administration or policy change occurs.

Historically, similar U.S. travel/visa restrictions sometimes lasted "2–4 years" before being removed.

Realistic probability (Based on past visa bans):

Time
Chance of lifting

June 2026
Low (~10–20%)

December 2026
Moderate (~25–40%)

2027–2028
More likely.

Stop making fake comments. They don't review like many of you postulated, the ban will be lifted at the discretion of the US

You're actually the one making fake comments. Go and check the wordings of the declaration on White House's website. They said they review every 180days or earlier based on individual country's attention to raised concerns.
The partial visa ban declaration and immigrant visa freeze are separate US policies affecting Nigerians.

Sigh

Her visa category is not on the list of visas under the ban

Even with the ban there will still be exemptions for the banned categories

You're in the student thread.

There's no confusion
Your parents won't be issued their immigrant visa after their interview due to the partial suspension on VISA ISSUANCE.

However they must attend their interview
As soon as the ban is lifted for immigrant visas they will be asked to bring their passports .

They should attempt their interviews as normal.

Good morning everyone.
I need urgent attention on this matter: I was recently offered a master's admission in the US, along with a teaching assistantship, tuition fee waiver, and scholarship. However, the SEVIS and immigration adviser stated that due to visa restrictions on Nigeria, the I-20 form can't be issued to me and recommended that I contact my department for further suggestions. I'm unsure how to approach this and the likelihood of receiving a positive response from my department. I don't want to lose this offer.

There’s really nothing that can be done. Even if you get the i20, the embassy can’t grant you a student visa so you would be rejected.
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 18 by missidy: 8:30am On Mar 27
Just wait until June and see what will happen regarding the restriction. I'm also in the same position. By June the 180 days would have elapsed and we will know if the temporary ban will be reviewed. If not, you can defer the admission.

Like others have said, there is not a whole lot that your school can do and even if you had been issued your I-20, your visa will be denied except you meet one of the exemptions outlined.

You can wait till June to see if the ban is lifted or you can request to defer your admission to Spring or Fall 2027 and find out whether TA, tuition waiver, and scholarship will still apply if you do so.

Hey! Long time. Your posts concerning this visa ban gives me and others hope. May God continue to bless you.

But I can't keep waiting, I have diversified my options to Include Canada, UK, Australia.

June is not feasible for this ban to be lifted, let's be honest with ourselves.

Abi no be US again, they will take their time.
