Students from Nigeria’s South-East geopolitical zone have delivered a stunning and historic performance at the 2026 National Mathematics Competition held in Abuja, sweeping all categories in what observers are calling a rare and unprecedented clean sweep.

The competition—organised annually by the Nigerian Tulip International Colleges in collaboration with the National Mathematical Centre—drew participation from over 10,000 pupils and students across the country, making the South-East’s dominance even more remarkable.

Emerging reports and related competition data indicate that top-performing students in the South-East pipeline—including those feeding into national contests—have come from standout institutions such as Diamond Special College, where a pupil recently clinched the primary category in a major 2026 regional mathematics olympiad, outperforming competitors from across the zone.

Additionally, schools like Divine Rays British School have been previously documented as national mathematics competition winners, further highlighting the South-East’s strong academic ecosystem feeding into national victories.

Education analysts say this dominance is not accidental but reflects years of strong emphasis on STEM education, disciplined academic culture, and competitive training across schools in states such as Anambra, Imo, and Enugu.

While the full official breakdown of all winning schools in the 2026 national finals is yet to be publicly released, the clean sweep by South-East students signals a powerful shift in Nigeria’s academic landscape—firmly positioning the region’s schools as national leaders in mathematics excellence.

See price money for competition of intelligence and IQ. We celebrate nonsense and give less attention to futuristic events in this country.

In events like this , you hardly get good sponsors. Kudos to the organizers tho.

Good.

When they write WAEC and replicate the same feat, our never-do-well neighbors in the West will said they used miracle centers.

I have said it times without number, it is only my dear Edo, and probably Delta, that can rival any southeastern state in the quality of education given to learners at the primary and secondary levels. Tertiary education is contestable, but they are still among the top two regions. I served there and the level of intentionality in education, even in public schools, is almost flawless.

Whenever my children finish their primary education in Benin City, they are going to have a fair share of secondary education in Enugu, Anambra, Abia or Ebonyi.

Kudos to our neighbors in the east.

Some people are still living in the euphoria of past glories and still adamant to agree that they have been left behind about some decades ago.

Religion and tribalism won't allow us. Otherwise why don't we practice regionalism or even divide the country so everyone will go?

Nigeria is too big for one black man to rule. Simple.
