.The Christian Association of Nigeria, Osun State chapter, has invited one Pastor Ezekiel, a clergy in charge of a church in Ido-Osun, Osun State, who allegedly led some people to invade Osun-Osogbo Grove, where shrines were allegedly desecrated.

The Osun CAN chairman, Pastor John Adeleke, who spoke with The PUNCH on Wednesday, confirmed the association’s invitation to the pastor.

Adeleke, however, said Ezekiel has not responded to the invitation, adding that the association was working hard to de-escalate tension and prevent religious disharmony.

He also said Ezekiel did not inform or take permission from the association before embarking on the trip to Osun-Osogbo Grove, and called on stakeholders to allow for amicable resolution of the disagreement.

“We have invited the pastor, and we have yet to see him. I spoke to one of their leaders in Lagos today. So they promise they will have a meeting and see me.

“We condemn that attitude, and we say we are not part of that attitude. We do not send him, nor did he inform us before doing so. We totally separate ourselves from that act,” Adeleke said.

He urged those displeased to “keep calm and remain law-abiding. That is what we need in our state presently, and that is why the Excellency (Governor Adeleke) called for that peaceful meeting.

“So, everybody should keep calm and let us work in harmony with one another. We are people of peace. Within the same compound, you will find Christians, Muslims and the traditional worshippers, and we live together.

“So there is nothing that we should allow that should cause such a problem among us. So let all of us be calm and let’s maintain peace and order.”

Meanwhile, the Palace of Olojudo Alayemore of Ido-Osun, Oba Olayinka Jokotola, has ordered the sealing of Pastor Ezekiel’s church located in the community, over an alleged attempt to cause religious unrest.

A statement signed by the Eesa of Ido-Osun, Chief Basiru Oyewale, obtained in Osogbo on Wednesday, alleged that Ezekiel had refused to honour the invitation of the palace.

“Having refused to show up despite invitation and visitation to his church, the palace will not look on while some elements are attempting to cause religious unrest in Ido-Osun Alayemore Kingdom.

“We see the act as an invitation to religious crisis, which has never been recorded in our Kingdom, and if not checked properly, may jeopardize the peaceful coexistence among the three religions in Ido-Osun and Osun State at large. The Kabieesi Alayemore has ordered that the church be sealed immediately and indefinitely,” the statement read partly.

The PUNCH reported that the leadership of the Traditional Religion Worshippers Association in Osun State submitted a petition to the Osun State Police Command, demanding a probe into the invasion of the Osun-Osogbo grove by some pastors, where a shrine was desecrated.

The petition, it was gathered, was submitted at the Osun Command headquarters in Osogbo late on Monday.

However, in a bid to de-escalate tension over the matter, the Osun State Government had met with the representatives of the traditionalists and the church involved in the crisis.

The demand for a probe by the traditionalists followed a drama that ensued at the grove of the Osun Osogbo recently, when some pastors stormed the grove and allegedly desecrated the shrines.

In the video that circulated on social media, the Christian clergy had engaged in an altercation with traditionalists who met them in one of the shrines inside the grove.

Also in the video, a man dressed in white robes, flanked by others believed to be pastors, stood beside a shrine within the grove, touching parts of it, gesturing as he spoke, and appearing to declare the supremacy of Jesus Christ while describing the Osun deity as powerless.

Tension rose as some traditionalists later arrived at the scene and the two groups engaged in an altercation, but the clergy was made to leave the premises after an intervention of a male traditionalist who warned his colleagues against violence.

In what appeared like retaliation, a video also surfaced on social media, where some people, who claimed to be traditionalists, stormed the church of the pastor who led those who invaded the Osun-Osogbo shrine.

In the video, some of those who went to the church covered their faces, and they sacrificed a dog, which they slaughtered and splattered its blood on the floor of the church.

Also in the video, those who invaded the church located in Ido Osun, Osun State, declared that they did it in retaliation for the earlier invasion of the Osun shrine by the pastors from the church, as those they met in the premises watched helplessly.

I am not in support of what the pastor did but is that grove a belonging of the traditionalist?

His shrine wasn't destroyed. His accusation is that his shrine was desecrated.

These traditionalists are in the habit of hijacking lands or water bodies that they do not possess, preventing other people from using it.

I remember when a church wanted to use a lake for water baptism of their members, this particular traditionalist stopped them claiming that the lake houses His god. It wasn't a pretty sight that day.

If that grove does not belong to the traditionalist by law then he should shut up and allow others access to that water body.

Infact, the true God does not force anyone to serve Him. He'll judge them at the end of their lives anyway? Why kill someone today when he could repent tomorrow? That's how you know Sharia is from Satan himself.

God first did a lot for the Israelites to show them He is the true God. Then, entered into a covenant with them and continued to prove Himself to them by parting the red sea, pulling down the walls of Jericho, destroying the enemies of Israel, and showing them numerous signs and wonders. Only after that was anyone who derailed from following the God of Israel becomes an offender, because he was breaking a covenant. And that was just for Israel alone. Not for the whole world to whom God had not shown Himself at the time. And, even before anyone is sentenced, there's going to be a thorough investigation and a sitting court of fair hearing.
