If imported petrol is cheaper ....why aren't the importers rushing to import and control the market like they used to ..and was basically put out of business when Dangote came on stream? How can imported petrol be cheaper when the cost of petrol is going through the roof in other countries? Even to get crude oil is a problem.....as countries now basically bid for oil on ships as in a tanker bound for Italy with crude oil at $110 per barrel is offered $125 per barrel by Spain ... do you really think that ship will still be heading to Italy? That's what's happening currently...and here we are....being sold that imported oetol is cheaper than Dangote. |

fineboynl:Depends on the US state. Plue we are not buying fuel at 1500-1600 naira all over Nigeria o. Also, US averages is 1.18dollars per liter. or 1624 naira . |

True talk 💯. What those importers are bringing in is nothing but foam, it will foam inside the jerrycan as if it's plenty, once the thing settles it goes down to half, something that was full some minutes ago, but dangote fuel has no such thing and it lasts longer, people who buy from MRS will testify. That means those importers are bringing in low grade second hand fuel from wherever the fvck they get it, then claim it is cheaper. Many people engine go begin knock soon. HacheNoire: |

Dangote is not helping with all these fluctuations in price of fuel here and there. Nothing can be stable in the country with all this fluctuations ; inflations around the corner. |

The west doesn't want you to be self sufficient. Dangote petroleum survival is a big plus to Nigeria. Worldbank won't want that to happen. You can argue with your keyboard |

Putindbutt:Naso. When the oil unions were at war with Dangote Nigerians took sides with the businessman against themselves (unions do represent the people). I made it abundantly clear then OVER AND OVER AND OVER again. That whoever won that war will enslave everyone else. Today, how far. Unions are a window to the inner workings of an industry. They know why, when and how things happen that the ordinary man on the street cannot. And they alert in issues that affect the wider populace. How will you know how universities are run down if not for unions. How will you know how hospitals are starved of resources if not for unions and on and on. But to have such a CRITICAL, CRITCAL industry without public oversight is just playing with economic fire. Well, we have concluded that Dangote is an 'institution'. Our Vice President has by that statement admitted that the company is a law into itself. So we take what we see. PS: I will not even talk about the role Nigerians played in running down the regulator. Talk about an ignorant citizenry shooting themselves in the foot. Ask if Americans accord the likes of Google, Tesla/SpaceX, Mobil, Facebook and other far, far, far bigger companies run by far, far, far richer and more powerful owners any quarter. |

agabaI23:A big plus but not at the expense of the economy. Nigeria should not be the sacrificial lamb for Dangote to succeed no matter how big or strategically important the company is. We all want him to succeed but he cannot run without reins. The sleepy National Assembly should haul his arse in to explain exactly what is happening in his organisation. A 1-3 percent addition on inflation is absolutely unacceptable. We are yet to recover from subsidy removal. If the issues are over his head he should say so, so that the people decide where to turn to. |

An average Nigerian has a mind set that is profit oriented and not purpose oriented. Innoson motors are costlier than Toyota, Nigerian rice is more expensive than foreign well processed long grain rice, Dangote fuel cannot be exceptional. Is we import everything we use in Nigeria you'll be surprised that things will be cheaper just that it will affect the value of our Nira. The indigenous chicken and eggs we consume are already becoming unaffordable because they are local products. Until we change our mentality, nothing will be cheap |

Putindbutt:Though I have very little hope about BUA. Me. I feel he and Dangote are two sides of a coin. There is very, very little competition in the markets they share. However government should do everything to see that the BUA refinery comes on stream as quickly as possible. And create a different kind of truly competitive market place that will benefit the country. |

ceejay80s:I share your sentiment but we need alternatives. The risk with Dangote alone on one sid and imported fuel on the other remains high. So it is not about the potential benefits of having but the potential risks of not having. |

nairalanda1:I'll start with the same thing i ended with when i spoke to you the last time: I hooe you're a billionaire (at least in naira) .That will give meaning to your position on things. You are talking about operating cost? D you know how much in pure profits the refinery is making? The government stifled competitors from importing fuel just fr ONE MAN! He went to court to ask to be the sole importer of fuel at one time. The chairman of that oil regulatory company that was fired the other day was because he refused to do Dangote's bidding. Cause Dangote can't tell me that's the first government official he has seen that's corrupt. And then why didn't he also serve as a whistle blower for the rest? Let the government FREELY open importation and let the free economy decide things. THAT'S FUNDAMENTAL ECONOMICS! Stop supporting evil be it the government or private individuals! |

World Bank (foreign multinationals) wants you to import everything. These are institutions that controls Nigeria to a significant degree. Nigeria has no energy or food sovereignty. Energy and food sovereignty are the building blocks of growth in any nation. Nigeria revels in religion bigotry and tribal supremacy instead - I guess that counts for something. |
